Ask A Gamemaster / Telekinesis
« on: June 10, 2012, 04:20:22 pm »
Or roughly manipulating objects at a distance.

As seen in The Elder Scrolls series and various other games, shows and movies featuring magic. (Marlin for example)

Question is can such a thing be rped by mages? Roughly Wizards and Sorcerer... maybe bards too Not sure about clerics as they rely on prayers instead of raw magic

Ex: a closed gate blocks path with a visible lever on the other side.
Spell craft/concentration check to manipulate and pull the lever and open the gate.

Additionally for Druids and maybe rangers and nature clerics. growing and manipulating vines from the ground to reach things for them?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Light Shy Creatures
« on: May 23, 2012, 10:14:02 am »
So was looking about for mods to a couple of my other games and came across some for NWN and this script gave me an idea if it has not yet already been implemented

AI - Light Shy Creatures at Neverwinter Nexus - mods and community

As it describes it there it causes hostile creature with this scrip to flee from other creatures carrying a light source (Torch, spell, what ever) My idea... add script to certain animals and other timid/easily frightened creatures.

Ask A Gamemaster / Wemic armor and weapons
« on: April 18, 2012, 08:06:36 am »
A little something I've been wandering about. Wemics may not have access to metal armor or weapon on Veapra but after being brought to the mainlands and possibly finding there wood and stone weapons well... breaking or becoming rather ineffective against there armored opponents. (Ex: Wood spear vs metal plate. Which would break first?)

Could they later (post creation in-game) opt to use metal?

Being mostly a chaotic race that gets me thinking that some or even most may tend to break away from traditions as going entirely by tradition is like being orderly and expected were as chaotic is to do things unexpected, right?

Additionally, and I'm assuming this is mostly to do with them not using metal armor or weapons on Veapra that they would have no knowledge of heavy armor, but would learning to use and equipped say... banded or plate armor cause any skin problems or just cover the human torso like leather does?

Ask A Gamemaster / Law of Layonara
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:00:43 pm »
Ok so, was thinking of a Rofi character and decided to take a look at the Law of Layonara and I'm just a bit confused about something.

punishable by several years of imprisonment:

Burglary and theft? Ok burglary perhaps as it would likely involve the person breaking and entering and possibly taking many things but simple petty theft? So if a hungry old begger stoll a loaf of bread... he now must serve at least 12 years in prison? :o

punishable by imprisonment for less than a year, forced labor, flogging, or community service:

Vandalism? So... if someone were to say... wreck/vandilize some kind of private or even public property... they must serve less then 1 year? :\\

Am I missing something here?

*Sees a a piece of art sitting somewhere unattended* Hm, thats a nice piece of artwork. *pulls out a dagger- Lets see if we can make it better. *slashes up the painting then gets arrested for it*

*Less than a year later* Yay! I'm free again... but now I'm starving. *wanders to a food stand and snatches up some food and walks away eating it... shortly after gets arrested for it and spends atleast 12 years in prison*

Ask A Gamemaster / Folians alignment
« on: March 15, 2012, 10:50:39 am »
This has been perhaps one of any things that has been nawing at the back of my head for a long wile and I'm sure one of the answers I'm going to be getting is "The gods work in mysteriousness ways" but still... gotta ask.

Folian is set as NG yet I'm finding little to no examples of how he is neutral. Good perhaps but not much to say neutral.

Mainly from the statement on his main LORE page which just about describes the basics of a wolf pack which in my opinion is actually more towards being organized and orderly (Lawful) than being wild and independent. (Chaotic) as everyone in the pack has a place, purpose and responsibility in the pack and above all follows the Alpha. (pack leader)

Another reason to this question is of a powerful follower who lived in the vale (can't seem to find LORE page anymore) and despite being a follower of a good deity he himself was Neutral Evil. (Malefactor.) Pretty much the exact opposite of Folians current alignment. :\\

So my question is, Why is Folian NG instead of LG or even LN?

Ask A Gamemaster / Clerics: Domain and Alignment
« on: March 06, 2012, 02:32:30 am »
Perhaps something that should be rather obvious but... I'm gonna ask anyways.

Can the Good and Evil domains be used by a neutral cleric?

Like a Lawful Neutral Toranit with the Good Domain?

I'm thinking not but thought I'd ask anyways... just to be sure.

General Discussion / Forging the Katana
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:44:25 pm »
Not sure if any of this could really be put in game but its interesting to know... a Katana is not quite made the same way other weapons are... nor are they made of the same traditional metal. (Tamahagane)

Ask A Gamemaster / taunt
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:53:42 am »
So, gave the skill taunt to Sig when I made him and been raising it but when I tried to taunt something... Sig had to run right up next to it... then taunt it... couldn't he just stayed where he was and yell at the thing?

I've only tried using it solo and roughly at the start of a fight... to try and get the creatures attention so they come running at me... but it never worked that way. Not sure it it acts the same in groups. Does it?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / PC Orcs
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:03:26 am »
Think I see why there have not been any Orc (and possibly Goblin) submissins ever since monster races were allowed again... There skin if very generic. All looking the same and having nothing changeable save for the weapon on them.

My suggestion for this... Let Orcs use the Half-Orc skin with some modifications if possible like a certain skin color and/or shrunk down in size that way PC Orc can actually change there looks (Armor, Helmets, cloaks) With this some can (if they choose too) wear a hooded cloak and try blending in like Dark Elves do... Though they might have to wear a deeper hood to shadow there whole face.

*sees a hooded orc walk by* Hm, was that a dwarf? (there current skin looks about the same size.)

Ask A Gamemaster / Non-lethal Methods
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:45:52 pm »
This has probably been discussed before but thought I'd ask anyways.

First off, I had a thought for a sorta rouge who worshiped Aeridin and a thought for him was to make and use non-lethal traps to subdue any threats to him or the group he is with. For instance, a sleep trap. When triggered it casts the sleep spell effect on all in the area thus rendering the enemy unconscious and the group and pass by with no one getting hurt or killed. Alternation, make and use a snare, paralyzing or some other holding trap. Question here is, are there any traps in game that might have any effects like these?

My second question, relative to my first, is there any weapon enchantments like the ones mentioned? Would be useful to those more pacifistic characters. If not then might I suggest that there be added some? Would say for there overall purpose, one the weapon effects are only on certain weapons and can not be placed by players, second the weapons with these effects are of the weakest kind. Say... a paralyzing... stone club? Perhaps a light crossbow that fires tranquilizer darts? (IE crossbow imbues bolts with the sleep spell.)

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Imp. Whirlwind Change
« on: January 12, 2012, 04:12:50 pm »
Posting this here from suggestion here from my earlier post in the  Imp. Whirlwind discussion.

Reg:
Intelligence 13
Dexterity 13 (or at least something not so high)
BAB +15 (the first BAB in the line. +15 or +20)
21st level
Dodge
Expertise
Mobility
Spring Attack
Whirlwind Attack

Specifics: The character performs two full attack actions, rolling two melee attacks at the full base attack modifier against all opponents within 5 feet. (or 10)

By Imp this allows them to strike all around twice instead of just once like normal Whirlwind. Though not sure if adding the second strike to the feat could be done.

Ask A Gamemaster / Potions vs Bandages
« on: January 01, 2012, 05:37:14 pm »
So after my last adventure I finally had enough money to buy some potions though only the light healing ones. Though as it would seem, despite being more expensive than bandages... they healed alot less hp. Atleast when compared to the bandages Rasa and Ty used to heal Sigfried with witch were of the lowest type aswell. How is that? I pay more for potions yet they heal alot less that the much cheaper bandages?

Sig has 0 points in the heal skill and only 10 wisdom thus can not really use bandages at all.

Is it expected that every one has points in heal?

Also, why are all potions "on target"? What happened to the standard "on self" potions?

Just for Fun / The knights Templar
« on: December 30, 2011, 02:34:39 am »
Imagine if you would, the Holy Christian Crusaders known as The knights Templar have been whisked away to the world of Layonara. How do you think they will act?

My opinion? Two words: Holy Crusade!

Why? The devils servants are all about with the Witchcraft and sorcery.

Clerics and paladins on the other hand are relatively safe... as long as they convert to the one god... as it were. Otherwise all infidels well be slain

"To kill an infidel is not murder. T'is the path to Heaven"

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Hunting and cooking
« on: December 11, 2011, 05:24:41 am »
A bit surprised this isn't already in game, especially with one of the biggest things about nature bound characters being that the do not waste any part of there kill.

After killing and skinning an animal I often wandered... where is the meat? Is is just laying there... rotting... as I walk off with the hide? Seems a bit... wasteful don't you think? Can't I at least cut off a deers leg, put it over a campfire then eat it?

Would like to see some animal parts added to the skinning loot or possible innards in the first loot. Gonna have to cut the hide off the large meat like limps and body so those would be present in the skinning loot and innards like liver and such would be in the first loot, by simply Just slicing open the belly.

Would add to the adventure/hunting experience in my opinion.

Character Library / New Character Submission - Valkair Valayo
« on: December 04, 2011, 04:09:21 pm »
Character: Valkair Valayo
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Class: Cleric
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Toran
Domains: War, Good

Biography:

Young Valkair Valayo grew up in the city of Fort Llast with his mother, father and two brothers. Valkair was the middle age of his two brothers. One older and the other younger. Despite the age difference, Valkiar was ofter the center of attention. His two brothers asking him what games they well play next. Often times when mother and father are gone off to work at the shop Valkair and his two brother would be free to roam the fields and streets. Often grabbing sticks and playing pretend sword fights.

With Valkair being as the leader of this small band of brothers, he would often lead them through the streets and help out any in need. Be it lending aid to the sick and injured, loading or unloading wagons or even chasing rats out of cellars or fending off bullies. Valkair greatly adored the many Toranites found in the city and has longed to become one himself. Giving payer to Toran each and every morning for guidance, day for protection and night for praising the Great Leader.

* I have read the information on Toran and I will play Valkair as a devoted cleric of Toran to the best of my abilities.

* Valkair has always believed in the ways of Toran and his Conducts of Virtue and has and always will strive to uphold each and every one.

* Valkair bear the same attire as most Toranites. Silver full plate armor with long sword and shield. A Toranit ankh around his neck and displayed for all to see

Ask A Gamemaster / Satyrs
« on: December 04, 2011, 03:09:37 pm »
I have a few questions concerning satyrs, mainly those on Veaspra.

Have had a thought for a wemic bard for a long wile and part if not most involves him being with a band of satyr minstrel. In other words they tout him how to be a bard or at least play music with nature made instruments.

A new thought about the wemic and the satyrs was when he leave Veapra that one of the satyrs joins him. In game the satyr is just for role play and is little more than a familiar or an animal companion. Mostly just a sorta translator for the wemic. Witch then brings me to one of my questions. Are satyrs intelligent enough and/or able speak common?

Again this is mostly concerning the satyrs from Veapra.

I tried looking through Lore and the forum and found little to nothing about satyrs... other than that there sorta tribal bandit like.

LORE Bugs / Devastating Critical STR Requirement
« on: December 02, 2011, 08:15:58 pm »
Oops, just saw the link to this board right after I PMed Ed about this. Sorry Ed.

Anyways, was looking thought the feats on Lore and when I saw [LORE]Devastating Critical[/LORE]. it seemed quite strange that the strength requirement was 30 so I checked it in game by creating a character in the original NWN module with the Debug mode and see how high I could raise his strength through leveling. Starting at 16 strength and putting points in nothing but strength (No epic strength involved) it maxed at 26 strength. Gaining Devastating Critical at only 25 strength. 5 points less than it stats in Lore.

Just thought I'd point that out. Though personnely I tend to have my ability scores a bit more balanced. Especially when I'm wanting or needing more than one ability to be high so I never really see any score going higher than 20.

Question though... are there any sorta boosts to ability scores or anything as a CDQ reward?

Deep in a dark alleyway, the slave master lays dead at Sigfrieds feet. "You should have kept your promise, but now that your dead..." Sigfried takes a deep breath and sighs. "I am finally... free." With one last look at his old masters corps, Sigfried headed out from Fort Vehl and wandered for a wile till he came upon the town called Central. Along his way he learned from many adventurers, tavern patrons and almost all other forms of rumors about the chaos that ravages the world. "Darkness... everywhere, and the only lite that burns... are those... from the flames of war." Sigfried thought to himself as he arrived at Central. "Heh, talk about jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Looks like I got out of those arenas just in time. This world could use a man like me, and a sword like mine." Sigfried smirked, swinging his great sword and slamming the end into the ground then raising it up. "Together, we shall quell this chaos!"

Just for Fun / Lawful evil Corathian
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:46:02 am »
Often wandered why Corath "the Lord Manipulator" was Chaotic evil instead of Neutral Evil or Lawful Evil. Sure he desires to spread chaos but could one not do that in a more lawful way? By "Manipulating" the laws and traditions of society?

Example:

Freedom of speech:
The corathian grabs a box and sets it in the center of town square then stands upon it and preaches about some random thing. Some people gather and listen as others find him annoying and want him out of there town. So the annoyed hire anyone willing to help but the preacher simply ignores the hied help. Soon swords are drawn as they try to force the preacher out but the Rofireinites step in and haul away the hired help as they attempted to break the law but assaulting the preacher. So the preacher is free again to continue his preaching.

Now with no one willing to help the annoyed, what are they to do? Frustrated by the preacher the annoyed decide to form together into a riot. After all, the Rofireinites can't stop all of them can they? So now with the rioters marching toward the preacher, the Rofireinits try to hold them off as the preacher has his now mindless followers turn to defend him. The whole tome now in chaos, the Corathian simply walks straight out the front gate just before it is sealed.

Heh, silly Rofireinite, they try so hard to keep the peace. They couldn't really do anything to the corathian, After all, what laws was he breaking.
