General Discussion / Re: Arena Tournament?
« on: December 02, 2012, 03:43:28 pm »
Hmmmm, Think I have a former arena combatant that wouldn't mind getting back into the arena fights.

Ummm... might wanna check your spell list again.

After reading your question I tried it in a single player campaign and scare was on the still spell list in the second level spells.

Still Spells are one level higher then normal.

till say to leave it as is and consider it a spell like ability. Maybe not of any spells a caster could normally cast but close.

Examples: Magic Missile, Missile storm, Melf's Acid Arrow, Fire Brand.

The AA (ARCANE Archer... er, Al'noth Archer?) uses there magical abilities to conjure magical arrows and fire them off. Kinda like a modified version of the missile spells.

LORE: Imbue Arrow could also be considered a spell like ability. A modified version of Fireball. Even says in the description that they Summon the arrow rather then enchanting/imbueing a material one

As to comparing the AA feats to spell like abilities, there is the uses per day much like spell slots.

All in all I'd say an AA is not necessarily a highly skilled archer but rather an archer the uses magic to empower there shots, from simply enchanting there material arrows to conjuring magical ones.

Edit: Example of using magic rather then skill:

Dex bonus: 0
Archery skill: 0
Target: An apple

*Uses seeker arrow, having difficulty aiming... firing in completely opposite direction*

Critical hit! apple destroyed

:D ok, maybe an over exaggerated example but still... that was purely magical talent... not skill. *looks to archery judges* I-I mean that was pure skill... no magic what so ever... I... I... I'm disqualified from the archery tournament arn't I? :(

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: XP for rogue/skills?

Interesting idea... though in my experience (mostly early game) I never really ran across any locked doors, chest (or any loot-able containers) or traps... aside from those in gm run/supervised quests.

So don't think there's any extra coding or anything needed for this idea... just reward the rogue for role playing. ;)

Could say its a spell like ability in which the AA conjures magical arrows with each pull of there bow. Kinda like seeker arrow... not sure if there as accurate though. Doesn't req. line of sight. Haven't played an AA myself... yet.

Well... I hope so... cause not ever a level one rogue with high CHA, Skill focus and points in UMD could cast something like that... nor any low level wiz, sorc or cleric

Just two? Sure you wouldn't rather have at least three judges? After all with just two, one could say yes and the other could say no... then who is it... that won the Fashion Show? (Haha, Rhyme :D )

Not that I have any characters really able to judge Fashion... just a suggestion. (Hah, another Rhyme :D )

I will ask you not to do this at the Angels.

I know some of the other Angels might disagree and enjoy this sort of roleplay, but if you use hostile magic on a guildmember in their guild capacity that is an attack on the whole guild (the active members).

My own character would take a rather dim view of anyone using hostile magic to steal from or con the guild, but as a player I simply do not wish to be forced into PvP. My choice as a player would therefore be to act out of character for Galathea or engage in a kind of roleplay I do not wish to engage in.

Regarding the dominate X spells. I think Dorg is being too diplomatic here, there is nothing technical about dominate spells. They are hostile magics where you attempt to enforce your will over another being. What you are trying to do is something which in real life could be compared to drugging your victim.

Or in a more fantasy or well... sci fi sense... Useing the old Jedi Mind Trick -waves hands around-

Though given HellBlazers post... guessing Feh is a Trydarian... for mind tricks don't work on them, only money. No money, no parts, no deal... and you won't find anyone else with a T14 Hyberdrive Generator I can promise you that :D sorry... had to... watched that movie a bit to much mesa be thinking.

Though, would say there are well... a few options one could take IC if they suspect they've been well... bewitched? One... confront them directly or two... report it to the local Rofies and see them in court.... and others I can't really think of now...

Right... almost forgot it was hostile... so, with an OOC agreement the player(s) switches from neutral to hostile in the player lists then caster can cast Charm/Dominate and RP the outcome (save/fail)... right?

I'm a big fan of "Demon Dice"  from The Witcher.  It's kind of like poker with 5 six-sided die.  roll 5d6 and look for pairs, straights, three, four and five-of-a-kinds.  Hold the dice you like and roll the ones you want to discard/redraw.  The second hand between both players is tallied with how many pairs you get.  So one pair is beaten by two pairs, three of a kind beat both, three-of-a-kind and a pair beats that, a straight (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6) beat those, four-of-a-kind and five-of-a-kind beat those.

so in rising order

highest dice (rare not to get a pair, but I suppose 1-3-4-5-6 is possible)
one pair
two pairs
three of a kind
three of a kind plus a pair
straight 1-2-3-4-5
straight 2-3-4-5-6
four of a kind
five of a kind

Typically I do two rounds with one discard, but you can add rounds for discards/rerolls or go flat out 1 round with no discards for game style.  With multiple rounds, you can raise and fold accordingly, betting on your discards/rerolls to get you a better combo.

Other variations, you can roll 4 dice and make the 5th a wildcard.  The 5th die remains undetermined until you want to declare your combo in the final round.  I call that one "Blind Man's Bluff"

You could also go "Snake Eyes Wild" and make the ones all wild cards.

Or you can make the game "Loser's Fortune" and go the reverse order of winning combos.  So 6-6-6-6-6 is the worst and 1-3-4-5-6 is the best.  The object then is to have the "worst" hand to win.  You want to discard those pairs and high dice, shoot for the worst possible combo.

Did kinda like that game too though the problem with dice games like that were they rely on the sides of the dice rather then the total kinda make it hart to use with the /roll emote where it only gives you the total.

Though I suppose having the player role 1d6 (1 six sided dice) about 5 times might work rather then rolling 5d6. (5 six sided dice)

Hmmmm, may have to find this place some time.

Though aside from gambling halls is there any way to play gambling games outside say... in the wild?

Had a though of a rogue carrying a pack full of gambling games that he might pull out and challenge anyone he's grouped with wile there camping.

The original Grovel was the "frightened goblin when you first enter and are given the choice to spare the goblin and even let him ride the lift up out of the Underdark".

Ah right. but still, that part and the paladin saving a goblin child are atleast in my opinion (and Biowares aswell it seems) good example on being a good aligned character.

As I've always imagined it. Show mercy to your enemy and they in turn well show mercy to you... or as put in todays terms. Treat others as you would like to be treated. :p Also, in that way you could possibly influence the creature/person to be good by treating them kindly and showing mercy... and of course in turn influence to be evil be treating cruelly.

Just my thoughts on what makes a good aligned character.

Anyways, enough about that. any other answers to the scenario or someone else wanna post a scenario?

You forgot to add to option (C) that during the course of negotiations, you were poisoned, beaten, robbed, Phantasmal Terrored, and finally sold into slavery in the Deep.

Well this scenario was mostly brought to me after playing the beginning of Shadows of Undrentide and Hords of the underdark.

At the start of SoU if you have a wise enough character when there debating the paladins test. The paladin complains about having to rescue a goblin child. A response you get with a high enough wisdom is "Perhaps the test was to teach you that Paladins are merciful as well as righteous"

And in HotU You meet up with a frightened goblin when you first enter and are given the choice to spare the goblin and even let him ride the lift up out of the underdark, following after you talk with the inn keeper and can suggest the goblin be put to work.

Those to together got me thinking how much of a lawful and even good aligned decisions like those are.

Now true they might do what you said, but then again thats kinda stereotyping them based on there race and frankly if being merciful counts towards being lawful then such is the risk one might take. Heh,  though doubt anyone would be so foolish as to drop there guard completely. Pretty much in any negotiation both parties are often always suspicious of the other.

Additionally, would say even a Lawful Evil person can be merciful. Spare there lives and in return there are in your debt... example: Milts answer. :)

Lycanthropy/theriantropy is considered a disease. While the disease corrupts the natural human form, an Aeridinite's first inclination should be to attempt to cure the disease rather than destroy the life that was afflicted, likely against its will.

Would that also apply to... Vampires? The disease Porphyria (or Porphyric Hemophilia in The Elder Scrolls series.)

Despite being considered undead cold one possibly be cure of the vamperic disease? After all the person isn't normally killed/dead before being turned and may even be unwillingly turned after surviving being bit and having gotten the disease... or so its been in general vampire lore. ;)

Your bit and diseased. Days later your a vampire. :) wait... that not a good thing. :( or is it? :) dang it... can't make up my mind. >:/

Would there be any need of a fresh new mercenary in this quest?

If so the Alexander might possibly be "persuaded" to join one of these groups. *Holds up a hand, rubbing his thumb and first two fingers together*
