Ask A Gamemaster / The Troubled Darkness
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:54:58 pm »
I can't find the thread which listed the new GMs and this a question out of curiosity but who is the GM behind The Troubled Darkness?
I do not require anything from them, just wondering.

Fixed Bugs / Devil Alignment
« on: August 19, 2011, 05:03:23 pm »
Osyluth.. the thing who's description says it wants to kill you, take your soul and hates you, appears to still fear you even if you've got alignment against evil up. This was from a stardust though, dunno if they're glitched. But anyway, that would imply its neutrally aligned or even good aligned which I think is probably wrong.
But if its not, could we just confirm, are devils not evil mechanically or is it just these guys? the dust had worn off by the time I got onto killing Hamatula .

Ask A Gamemaster / Dark Elves VS Drow
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:52:41 pm »
Question as to what the dark elves use, directed towards whoever has knowledge about the official Layo standpoint on this.. if there is one.
Do dark elves on Layonara use crossbows? Or do they use bows, I ask because I've heard on Rave's quest about poisoned ~arrows~ and also I recall NPC Arcane Archers on several dark elven quests that involved Gelooo.

So .. bows or crossbows as the standard stuff of the darkiez? :P

Ask A Gamemaster / Krashinite Tribes
« on: August 11, 2011, 03:12:32 pm »
Several questions if you guys would indulge please:

First is about mechs: Does the level 5 and 10 abilities of Barbarian Rage and Greater Rage on the Bear Warrior class grant a bonus use if you are a Barbarian Class or are they worthless to all except a Battle Rager (ive not read the class but presume their rage is different to a barb)?

Second: With references to longboats, them being northeners who raid in tribes, have skalds, rely on the sea etc etc would you compare Krashinite tribes similar in nature to Norseman?
Accents, appearances, weapons, mentality (outside of tribal tradition) etc is what I wanna know.

Third: Why is the bear the only form you can turn into? I assume its not just the Bear Clan that possess this ability and all the others have as well? Or is there just no mechanic in place for the other tribes if they are capable of taking on their shall we say, 'totem form' or their tribe animal (I know totems arent mentioned in LORE, just using it here)?

Development Journals and Discussion / Caged (others may post ofc)
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:44:32 am »
Nym'roos snarls upon awakening in the cell, recalling little about how he got here beyond the agonising storm of arrows and the countless number of assailants. Glances around from his prone position to study the stone tiles and walls, along with the crude and strange devices in the main chamber; he had supposed them the human attempt at a torture rack but remained skeptical.

With a wince of pain and tightly shut eyes, the burning ache of his body alerts him that he is still damaged, but nevertheless he pushes himself to his feet all while ignoring the pain as he has trained himself to do.

He begins to pace his cage, a hand over his diaphragm that seems to still struggle a little in its operation after being kicked around on the return from the Lake. Immeadiately he walks up to the bars and glances out at the layout, noting the guard positions with a dark scowl and the positions of weapon racks, other cells, the exit and anything he may use to escape, or even his own equipment if its in the dungeon along with the belonigngs of other prisoners.
After a moment of doing so, he heads back to his own cell to examine the possibilities of getting past Step 1.

Stone tiles, could serve as a makeshift knife, all he need do is find some loose rock to pry off one of the damaged tiles, snap it to have a sharp edge and do it slowly so not to arouse suspicion.
A narrow tunnel lead into his holding area from the cage bars, which were thankfully flanked either side with enough space to conceal himself in.. in truth, there was plenty of places to hide and he would have to assume his captors knew that aswell.. he would need something particularely good, or to be particularely fast to catch them unawares. This is assuming they even enter the cell and don't just sentence and shoot him there and then. That would be the smart thing to do, if not the flashiest.

Next there was the slop bucket, easy enough to use on the guards if he wanted to be base and crude but needed to blind them temporarily.. lovely but if he got anything on himself, that'd probably give him away later.

The bars.. Nym'roos wondered to himself a moment, tapping his chin. They could be bent, all he need do is use cloth from what they've left him in, something sturdy he can put two hands on and run through and then.. soak the cloth.
Then it would be up to his muscles and hopefully the bars only being made of low-quality but functional iron for its purpose; but for now he was too weak and the guards are shifting around, he needs rest and the right oppurtunity.. which he may have to make for himself.

With a pessimisitc sigh he folds his legs and closes his eyes, entering meditation.. he would be going no where for the time being.

Fixed Bugs / Sun Penalty Glitch
« on: June 18, 2011, 05:49:05 pm »
Misted Village caverns seem to be counted as outdoors because the -2 skills and stats (not attri.) is still present even after leaving the actual outdoor maps (in the 'daylight' timeslot). This was noticed by my dark elf who has not taken sunlight adaptation and I believe Xaltotun's SD also suffers from the problem and has mentioned it.

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Message left for Steel.
« on: May 29, 2011, 06:24:12 am »
"I am seeking a Geode's Embrace and wish it in my possession as soon as possible. Its price will be paid in Trues. Leave your reply at the Leringard Arms and I shall hear or it. I will be waiting."

The message is unsigned and written in deliberately blockish script to cover any traces of handwriting style.

The unsigned message reads as follows: "I am seeking the acquisition of a belt, commonly referred to as Geode's Embrace. I am willing to pay the price in Trues for it and if you have one in your position. Send your reply to the Leringard Arms. I will be waiting."

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Luring
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:50:30 pm »
On the subject of Luring, which has been brought to my attention recently as illegal (sorry for forgetting it from the rules, thats my fault I admit). :(

The purpose of luring is in order for players, when they cannot handle a full blown spawn, to pull in one or more that they are capable of handling in order to successful hunt/grind whatever you wanna call it in an area.

While yes, this is an abuse of AI mechanics and this is an RP server as opposed to a PvP or Arena one. I would like for the team to please consider relaxing the rule in situations where a player is alone or with a friend so luring one or more becomes acceptable. Especially alone where no one is around to RP anyway. If you are thinking a GM may be watching, well then if the GM is busy, then they likely won't be paying too much attention anyway and if not, im sure they'd likely change things abit or spark an impromptu if they are watching what a loner is up to.

Before you all scream No.. hear me out.

Layonara, while very rich in quality of RP and its lore, is somewhat lacking in activity, I mean the most I've seen when a big quest isn't running is about 8-10. This usually around American timings or so. Alot of the time the server IS empty or maybe with one to three online.. or maybe its just when im about, whatever thats not the issue. The point is its true atleast for some of us.

When you are on your own with nothing to do, it stands to reason you might want to spend time getting xp from a worthwhile source. Not everyone likes crafting and some characters dont craft as apart of their RP.
Some spawns ARE simply too hard to take full on without company, and when you dont have company, this rule means we either cheat.. or we have to settle for something quite repetive and not worth the effort.
Not to mention, that revisiting a place over and over is ALSO not realisitc because it would take more than a week ingame for an area to recover from an extermination (day in RL?). They are recovering in 5 minutes.
Opening up where a player can go only means they get in some variety should they get bored of an area (believe me, I do).

Its basically: no harm is being done to anyone if the group RPs their lures.. and no harm is being done to anyone if a lone guy/girl is just trying to find something worthwhile to do.
Its about fun and good RP.. so if you take out RP because there's no one to RP with, you are only holding back fun due to a flawed game's mechanics and a rule that centralizes around the idea of "what if it was real" i.e RP. If there is RP to be had, why does it matter about mechanics so long as RP is there on the grind and everyone's enjoying themselves.

Yes the server seems to doing just fine as it stands, im just trying to make a suggestion I feel might help a little. Please consider it.

Development Journals and Discussion / Nec'perya d'Oloth
« on: April 24, 2011, 07:37:07 pm »
It is strange to think back now on the teachings of Hatred, after being forced to walk the blinding surface of this world under the miserable gaze of the sun.

Fuelled by the hate and suffering each of us must endure in the heart of darkness beneath the world; and unleash it to bring Vengance upon the Elves.
The unity of the elven races in a desperate coup to remove the strongest and most deadly of their cousins.. Us.

Even where betrayal, politics and murder keep our people strong, those fit to rule and feed off the weak and useless; there is no greater failure than one's plots unravelling and failing right before fruition.
And so it was declared by my mentors that the Elves whom had tried and failed so despicably to eliminate their rivals now will suffer a fate worse than ours for such clumsiness.

"A predator need only stumble once to become prey"

Oh how we learned that lesson the long.. hard.. and painful way.

But there is a difference between revenge upon a race and revenge on a person. This I learnt firsthand, and best on this wretched sunland.
Whereas there was no greater thrill than hunting a pale-skin traitor and taking their life even as they defended themselves.. my lust to improve myself as a killer and disdain for pointless murder and giving in to primal instincts has forced me to cool my emotions and make allies amongst them.. even if just to keep myself safe and to leech what I can from their overly trusting souls.

Yet this is a dangerous path.. like the consumption of bloodwine and the drug within for its immeadiate gains, however useful they may be; the slow build up of its most vital ingredient in oneself is subtle and creates an ever-growing threat.. carelessness.

The faces of a Betrayer behind a screen of adrenaline and battlefever all begin to blur into one that I see in my dreams.. ever-changing with a new .. unique feature of my last victim.
But the faces of those who have names, have histories and have more to them in my mind than mere targets to feed off.. soon become exceptions to the category.

As if they were no longer pale-skin traitors that deserved to die for their failings, and became creatures worthy of a chance at life.. as long as they were useful to me and did not become a threat.

Should they not be marked with the same as their kindred?
Am I losing my way even as I refuse to decend into mindless savagery towards my foe and keep myself above such pitiful and excessive displays?
Maybe Velkyn's barbarity is not so; perhaps I am growing soft and weak like the Betrayers.. or perhaps even my own people have suffered more in the Deep than they realize.. becoming as twisted as the horrors stalking the caverns around us..
The temptation to ravage, pillage, murder and torture are ever present at the back of my mind.. and they trouble me greatly every time a small part of myself seeks to enter their realm.
But I am not an animal and refuse to live like a beast, ruled by my own hungers and a slave to my own body.
This alone keeps me from tumbling into the darkness unlike the one I seek refuse in.. but a black emptiness that threatens to swallow what I am and leave only a husk of primitive instinct.

...I should've killed her when she stumbled into the village of Center and collapsed on the cobblestone.. afterall, she tried to kill me and failed.. her and her allies. Instead I decided to play with her and get close enough to her heart so that when the truth dawns on her.. it would tear fitting injury across its surface.. and oh how it did.. and oh how she.. ~weeped~ for the loss of one she thought was a 'friend'. Such painful deceptions were a kindness for what I could've wrought against one that had lost my respect and earned my ire. I wonder where that changed..?

This female has caused, and IS trouble.. even as I sat there looking at her pale, battered form lying exposed on the sheets of the 'Inn'.. I knew I should have first enjoyed her and then murdered her.. but that would have made me into something as crude as Velkyn.. she was exotic temptation that I failed to refuse.. and now the trouble her over-emotional mind brings to me is great.
But the distraction from the life I truly lead, hidden by a veil of deciet and secrecy from the surfacers is so ridicolously effective.. I find myself unwilling to cut the connection..

Roleplaying / Interrogation in Fort Vehl
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:14:37 pm »
My thanks and Kudos goes out to the players of Keela Moonflower (Mooneyes) and Tyra Dragonheart (Shiffdrgnhrt) for their no nonsense RP and attempted murder of Nym'roos, after an arguably failed attempt at interrogating him for answers regarding certain people :P.

And yes Tyra.. I kept a screenshot of that knockdown attempt ;)
Gotta have some revenge right?

Just for Fun / Themesong Time!
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:16:40 am »
Since I was having a conversation with gelooo that eventually led to include songs to play in the background during PvE, PvP or just a general theme song; I decided why don't we all try and find theme songs that suit a said character and links them or just leave the names.

Do give advance warning if the lyrics are not 'PG 13' and chances are mine won't be, hence we can stick to links or just give the name of the song and artist to avoid breaking any of the forum rules. (someone correct me if this is still a violation)

So, who wants to go first? :P

Development Journals and Discussion / From the Ashes..
« on: October 28, 2010, 06:10:29 pm »
Upon entering Vehl, and eventually continuing onto Center, he found a place to buy some armor, food, water and a rapier. A weapon that held dark memories that still clawed at his heart, but a weapon that made him feel safe as well.
He met a woman there; strange creature, always hiding her face behind a mask and never speaking.
She showed him some charity, giving him food and since she was as good as any to ask in his mind, he asked about a local garrison or merc band he could hook up with to make a life for himself, to prove to himself that he was right and his father was wrong.
He got his wish, she gave him a letter and told him to read it in private, which he did upon his journey home by road to Port Hempstead, even though it held nothing for him anylonger, it was a place where he could save money using the bank.

Upon arrival, and getting mixed up in the hustle and bustle of the hin market, he read the scroll and the Axioms it held within it, about the Creed or Pihlosphy or whatever they wanted to call it.. it was about how to be a mercenary.. and its something he would take on board regardless of whatever name it was saddled with.
Was this is chance, did he by some lucky stroke meet a mercenary woman, she certainly looked capable, and it was proved when their paths crossed once again.

Her bumping into him in the city eventually led to her taking him to the sewers, likely to evaluate the teenager and see if he was worth her time, or at least this was the assumption Sebastian had in his mind.
Having some difficulty by being overpowered by rats en masse, she stepped in and thats when he knew she was a warrior, it was like watching the Reaper take souls.. at first, yeah sure, rats, who cares but the buggers were spritley, fast and packed a nasty bite. Her blows never missed.. and then came the fish people, dispatched just as casually as the vermin.
Seb was hard pressed just to make any kills, but he managed here and there. The odd nod of approval meaning alot to him, and he didn't even expect to recieve that much when he did get something right.
He learned her name down there, in the blood and sludge: Viper. Strange strange creature...

Later that day, after the rumble in the sewers, getting out and being soaked by fresh rainwater (a blissful experiance after trudging through the grime). She took him to Vehl by boat, paying for his ticket, and trained him in adjusting to medium armor such as chainmail, and assisted Sebastian with his footwork, posturing and overall Discipline when it came to battle. She had aided him a great deal and it gave the young man hope that he may have a chance at joining whatever organization she was apart of.
Eventually however, she handed over to a witty, playful elf called Raze; proceeding to school Seb in the appropriate useage of the rapier's thrusting and how to incorporate a shield into the mix at Sebastian's request (since he didn't believe himself good enough to be without one).
Hell. On. Earth. He never imagined the nightmare of learning to fight with a shield at his side, all the while having to work on professional warrior stance and suffer that acursed, lumbering, annoying, uncomfortable, clumsy, ugly chainmail!
But they were valuable lessons from people who possessed a skill he sought. He had to sweat through it and learn, and upon being ordered to perform 10,000 thrusts with no shield to practise footwork and posturing with his blade, he parted ways with Viper and Raze. And continuied to practise until his muscles ached of fatigue and his lightly tanned skin gleaned with sweat.

A final thought he had as he collapsed on the bench, panting like he had run from death itself was "Raze called her Tiffany.."
