Ancients Legacy / Digging for Answers or Another Brick in the Wall
« on: October 20, 2014, 02:03:02 am »
"And so he's sitting there at the table," he said, clearly bemused, "Talking about this ancient wall he found. He said it's up in the mountains and was trying to see who wanted to come look at it with him."" An 'ancient wall'?" the halfling woman asked, curious."Aye," the man answered. He took a long swallow from his tea. "It certainly was curious! I mean he makes a real sell with the supposed partial carvings of the four deities. Deliar is among these so I cannot help but be curious.""Are you thinking of going?" she asked. "I am, but I don't know if I'd have time," he answered, somewhat disappointed with the admission. "I cannot miss my window of opportunity in Fort Vehl. You know how it is there...." She nodded and tugged at her lower lip briefly. "If I didn't have this full load of textiles...""Well maybe put the word out?" she suggests hopefully, "With all that's going on, some answers certainly wouldn't hurt return everything to something more normal." She shook her head, "If that 'soothesayer' comes out to the fields again to preach at us about 'end of the world as we know it,' I think I'm going to lose my mind. Doesn't he have to prepare for winter like the rest of us?" She makes a disgusted sound but then shrugs. He snorted in reply. "Some of these people," he said in agreement with her sentiment, "No sense in them. If we go to pieces after every 'major happening' how in Layonara would we ever recover from the real tragedies?" He laughed a little. "Yes, I think I might pass this along on my route. I wasn't the only traveler in the bar tht night. Some people were far more taken in too. You know, what with the way people are reacting to the star movements and all." She nodded soberly. "Until He tells me otherwise, I have a schedule to keep!" he says dramatically, stabbing one stubby finger in the air. She laughed then laid her head down on his shoulder. "Well either way," she says, "I'm glad it was an interesting evening and you kept your sense and came home to me instead." He grinned at her."Like there's any contest.""Lay it on thick," she snorted and then laughed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Some days later, at the sensible advice from his wife, the halfling trader was in the bar along his route sharing the story of the gnome he met in Brenuth. Good food and ale in his belly to warm him, he shares the tale again and again of the mysterious artifact from another era, supposedly carrying the marks of four of The Seven, including his own Deliar.

*The trip back to Mistone was without major incident, a couple of days lost on due a storm but aside that all went well thru the travel, the ship docked safely in Leringard and the caravan made good time from Trelania to Brelin and near the City of Gold itself, you may even had the time to check back on the guildstore if you want, finally the time for the meeting has arrived, as you aproach the Traveler's post.

As you come closer you notice 3 people waiting there, the three of them dressed in the colors of the Silverguard two of them armed as well, the third one its a familiar face, Emily the wizardess that was present during the events of the meeting, the trio present themselves once you approach.

*A young man in his early 20's speaks for the group, once you all acknowledge each other, and after a small gesture by Emily to him*

-Greetings Miss and Mister Raid, I am glad that you arrived in timely fashion, hope that the trip has been pleaseant and without incident, My name is Lieutenient Jorgun Stridesmit, I have come in behalf of Captain Rae to escort you to the meeting place, with me is Lieutenieant Emily Wang, and Private Rogeri Dan*

*Emily seems concentrated into something, and the private standing guard near her, They await for your reply and acknowledgement *

In the meantime in other place, in a small outpost tower outside the city, there are preparations done, The silverhair aproaches to the a place prepared, and hears the Captain Rae and the Protector exchanging words.

Protector :" I Told you that this is no good idea, there is nothing that has changed in the case*

Captain Rae:  "I have heard you , friend and you know that i take your wise advice in account, but I at least would give them the chance to present the case, we'll see how things go after that*

Ancients Legacy / Actions and reactions
« on: October 05, 2014, 11:38:30 pm »
In the two months that followed the first movement of stars, the fact that there was movement was a very popular topic of conversation. As weeks passed, word began to circle around that shipping is taking a hit. Major harbors are seeing a greater number of ships staying moored or anchored within. Only the most experienced (some might say desperate) captains and crews are braving the oceanic routes. Everyone else is either sticking to coastal runs or staying in port, claiming a change in the stars used for guidance and uncertainty about the oceans themselves. In more rural communities, speculation and fear about this year's harvests trend decidedly negative, though no outward signs of anything of the sort seem to be manifesting. In a few places, and particularly those with a town square where such scenes are common, doom-sayers and so-called prophets are beginning to draw larger crowds with their apocalyptic predictions. They frequently point upward, particularly at night, to the "proof" in the Heavens that dark times are upon the world. And slowly, a few people are starting to listen.

Ancients Legacy / OOC: Plot GMs, Contacts and Information
« on: October 03, 2014, 05:29:03 pm »
All,For the purposes of the main plot events, the responsible GMs are myself (Dorganath) and Rowana. We are co-running this plot and coordinating all events within.  We are also having a few GMs help out with various events here and there. When it comes to overall plot-related actions and inquiries and a PM is appropriate, please direct those to Dorganath and Rowana. If you forget and only send to one of us, it's no big deal as we're sharing all infomation and inquiries between us.When it comes to questions and clarifications on events that are handled by one of the other GMs, please direct your questions to them first.Of course, posting on the Ancients Legacy forum is equally appropriate and the applicable GM will respond in whatever way is appropriate. Please note that plot-related posts made elsewhere may not get the attention it deserves. If there are any questions about this, please ask below.

Ancients Legacy / OOC: On actions and responses
« on: October 03, 2014, 06:09:07 pm »
All,Just so everyone understands, we will be responding to actions and inquiries in an order that makse sense based on location, action taken, destination, etc. What this means is that somone making inquiries or investigating things local to where they are presently located will get a response quicker than someone who decides to travel for weeks or months for their actions/investigations.  In some cases, this may mean that world events happen before players get a response on something they started before said event.  Including your character's location and intended means of travel will help greatly in helping us to keep everything straight. Otherwise, we'll probably make assumptions that may or may not favor your character. This is simply an attempt to keep time in a straight line as much as possible. In some cases, there will be a series of events stacked on top of each other, relatively speaking. In other cases, the events will be spread out more. It is the former case where we will do most of our selective ordering in how and when we respond.I wanted to put this out there for everyone to understand our methods. We know some of you compare notes OOCly, and this is fine of course, but we didn't want anyone to feel marginalized or a victim of favoritism (or its opposite) when someone gets a response before someone else.  There is a method to our madness, so please try and keep this in mind as we try and get back to everyone in the most appropriate way.

Layonara Server / New Plot - please read
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:24:57 pm »
Thank you all again for your collective expression of interest in the upcoming plot. This is going to start very soon, if all goes well, and we have one other question for you all, or perhaps a better term is an “election.”For this plot series, there exists a very real probability of character alteration in a seemingly small but actually quite important way. What is the nature of this potential alteration? We're not saying right now, however we'll give the following information:
  • This change is not going to be some sort of “shackle” that will inconveniently hinder a character. In fact, it may generally be viewed as positive.
  • This change will however effectively mark the character with the potential to be targeted by the antagonist(s)
  • There is an option (at our discretion) that the change could persist after the plot series has completed, if likely at a diminished level, so in a sense, it could be something of a reward.

So essentially, there is a risk/reward mechanic at work here, and by taking the risk associated with this potential change, the chance of a greater reward and/or more significant role exists.

What we're going to do is give every player who will/may be involved with the plot quest series to opt out of this potential alteration. This is to say, if you do not wish for your character to be altered for story reasons that do not stem from your own actions on the quests, please indicate below by simply stating that you opt out, and we will exclude you from being included in the list of potentially-altered characters.

We will repeat this request at the first quest session, and anyone who joins into the plot after it starts will be given the same option. Everyone will get to change their minds one time, meaning one can opt-out but change one's mind later (though that is no guarantee of character alteration) or do the opposite (opt out sometime in the middle of the plot), but one cannot keep going back and forth between the choices. For those who have not opted out, whether or not your character becomes altered will be determined by the roll of dice, so even deciding not to opt out is no guarantee one's character will be changed in some way. We are simply seeking to avoid any misunderstandings and hard feelings as the result of an unwanted breach of the so-called “Golden Box”.Please indicate below only if you will be participating in the plot quest series and you wish to opt out of any plot-related character alteration.

The Silver Buckle / A Return to the Buckle
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:21:38 pm »
Some years later, Tori checks back in at the Silver Buckle, only raising her eyebrows slightly at the changes made. After a brief conversation with Michael, she heads down and returns with a dusty adamantium buckler, but asks that someone tell "that Reid fella" she's looking to settle up and wondering what the damage is.

Layonara Server / End of GM Break
« on: September 10, 2014, 11:24:18 pm »
Greetings community! As all good things must come to an end, with this post we are bringing an end to the summer-long GM break. Along with this comes an end to the extended bonus period. XP/Fortune rates and GP drops have been reduced, and the Soul Mother is back on duty. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the extra goodies while they lasted. If it is any consolation, I have set a new “baseline” for some of these rates, mostly as an experiment. This baseline is, on average, higher than our previous baseline, though likely subject to change over time in announced and unannounced ways. In other words, I might make adjustments for balance reasons (generally unannounced) and I might have the occasional bonus weekend or experiment with other tweaks to our various rewards. These adjustments are not likely to take things below the “normal” rates that have been in place for years, but they may fluctuate without warning.Over the next months we will be conducting an experiment on what the new baseline for rates of various rewards on the server. We won't necessarily be announcing these and they will likely not stay steady over the time period of this experiment. Meaning sometimes you may log in and see a very noticeable difference but at other times, it may seem much closer to normal. The rates will not be adjusted downward from the current 'normal', so don't worry about that! Additionally, we may run some bonus weekends to do some more concentrated tests which we would really like it if the community would be able to help us out with that. (Besides, bonus weekends, right?) With only the rare exception, our GMs will be returning to running quests and events (though a few never actually stopped), and everyone is very much “on duty” once more.

Rumour Has It / The Old Stalking Grounds
« on: August 10, 2014, 05:29:06 pm »
That night was dark and cloudy, a perfect night for stalking. She had remained at the scene, on the roof top the assassin had used to kill the halfling, looking for someone to come check the scene.  While the assassin's aim was true and deadly, her immediate pursuit did not give the assassin time to confirm him kill.  She expected someone to come investigate. But no one did.  I must be getting rusty, she thought.  It had been too long since she'd stalked Vehl.  The criminal patterns had changed and she was out of touch.  New players were moving pieces, and she hoped some of the old ones were still alive to help. After a pit stop at the One Eyed Harpy to resume being Lavender Blacklace, she made her way quickly and carefully to the Green Dragon's auxiliary entrance, only used for those guests requiring descretion.  Making her way back to the room, she met the charter captain, a fellow Tau'ren Officer."You're late," the Captain said, arms crossed and looking angry.  "You promised the King-""My promise was that I would not cause trouble."  She sighed, and checked on her make up in a small mirror from her satchel.  "I ran into a crime in progress, well a few really, and decided to investigate.  Something I recall being commissioned to do for Taur'en.""Yes, when you're in Taur'en.""Look, the King granted me leave to return to Mistone, and now I'm here."  She tucked the mirror away and looked back at the Captain.  "If you want to return to White Mouth Harbor and inform the King of my intentions here-""No, no.  I'm just urging caution.  Co'rys may be as lawless as you say it is, but a standing exile is not something to ignore from any of the realms."  He walked up to her, grabbing her gently by the shoulders.  "You are at great risk here.""I know I am."  She smiled, then stepped away from him.  "I was exiled for doing something terrible.  Before I go I have to at least try to balance that out with something good."  She picked up her things and went toward one of the suites two bedrooms.  "I need to at least try.  I do have one favor to ask, however.""What is that?" the Captain asked."Be ready to leave at a moments notice.""Aye, ma'am.""Good."  She turned to the Captain from beyond the portal to her room.  "Tomorrow starts a return to my old stalking grounds.  And I may need a quick exit."  First stop, she thought, some old friends.

Rumour Has It / A Disturbance in the Aragenite Temple
« on: July 17, 2014, 12:20:27 am »
Deverian traveles to Bydell Castle and enters the Aragenite Temple. After knocking over a pile of scrolls, turning to pick them up, and pushing over a book case, he tries to reorganise things somewhat before finding a scholar who he then asks "Do you know anything about the existance of a vampire in the broken halls?"

Layonara Server / GM breaks and player bonuses
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:49:40 am »
Greetings all!As summer is nearly upon us, we would like to announce a couple of things that will be happening over the next couple of months. For starters, beginning on June 1st, the GM team as a whole will be taking breaks. These breaks are voluntary, and we're placing no requirements on people to do so or for how long their breaks will last. The point of this is to let our GMs refresh, take time, and have a period where they are not being held to the responsibilities and expectations of being a member of the GM team. This is something that used to happen with some regularity, but we managed to get out of the habit. This oversight has taken a toll on some GMs. For others, just having a break will be a nice breather, while others may take advantage of the time for summer activities, vacations and time spent with family. The nature of these breaks is that, firstly, they are completely voluntary, though they are also strongly encouraged. GMs are free to take advantage of time off at any time during this period, as many times as they wish and for as long as they wish. For you, the community, this may translate into seeing fewer quests on the calendar during this time. As for the overall duration, this will last until at least the end of July, possibly into August for at least one of our GMs. On the other side of this break period, it is our plan to put the finishing touches on planning for a new plot quest series.I do want to mention that despite these rolling breaks, there will be a GM presence, if no other place than the forums and IRC. If anyone needs help, has a question or whatever, someone should be available to lend assistance.Having said all this, during the same time (June 1-July 31), I will set up the servers with XP and Fortune bonuses as well as gold (and possibly loot) bonuses. As an added benefit, I am throwing in one additional bonus:For this period of time, no Soul Strands will be cut. This is not an IC thing, so like the last time when I kept it a secret, it should not be acknowledged in-character or in-game at all. I of course request also that it is not used as a license to be reckless or exploitive. The key purpose in this is to let people have fun and not worry about character loss.So there it is. Enjoy!

Rumour Has It / QUAKE !!
« on: May 28, 2014, 04:44:41 pm »

The recent tremors that have plagued Mistone in the region around Haven City and the Silkwood Forest cumulated in the early morning hours of (Layo Date to be added once the sundials are reset) as massive earthquake to shook the region.

The shock wave was felt as far as Spellgard and Hlint but the damage was limited to the Silkwood region.

Flash flooding occurred around several dry creek beds as large subterranean aquifer was disturbed. This is thought as well to be the source of flooding in many underground structures of the region. These structures may well remain permanently submerged. Only time will tell. The flooding washed skeletal remains down stream of an old burial site. Proper authorities have been alerted to deal with the re-interment of these souls before they can run amok.

There are some reports of a large debris cloud that mushroomed above the forest. Since it occurred in an uninhabited section of the great tract of forest, it is thought to be the collapse of some natural structure or perhaps old ruins in the area.

Haven City thankfully suffered only minor to moderate structural damage and no town residents have been reported as casualties. Haven Castle had several towers partially collapse but they are repairable. The mines that sustain the economy of the town however were mostly devastated by the quake. If the economy is to survive, new mines will have to be built in the surrounding territories.

The mine collapse may have exterminated a large portion of the local gnoll population. It is unknown how many still populated the underground areas in the wake of recent flooding but non there could have survived the cave ins caused by the quake.

General Discussion / Development Opportunities...
« on: May 23, 2014, 02:06:36 pm »
It can sometimes be frustrating when trying to develop a character along a certain tangent to prepare them for the CDQ that will push them over the threshold to reaching their goal, or fleshing out that CDT for a request. From the GM side it can also be hard to come up with a good idea for a CDQ without some background story to work from. If this is something you are experiencing, please read on.An aspiring weapon master with no master...?A devotee of a certain deity with nobody to teach them the basics...?A shadowy rogue wanting to probe possible membership in a thieves’ guild...?An adept wanting to learn more about Al'Noth and its applications...?The list goes on and on. I'm going to take requests for a while from players needing some extra GM involvement with their characters to help with this. If you are interested, post something here and I will start a thread and we can get the ball rolling. This is an excellent opportunity to start a plot or tangent you can use to later request a super high quality CDQ.

General Discussion / My status..
« on: May 12, 2014, 08:09:48 am »
Hey everyone, just a little status update. This week I will be out of state on business and may have limited access to my computer as IT will be taking it for upgrades for a few days. Also, things have been slow response-wise for the last week and a half or so and will continue to be so for another week or two due to obligations with my HOA as we are in the middle of about 11 civil suits and 30 lien filings... so apologies if posts and in-game actions continue to be a little slow. I'm off to the airport now and will try to stay in touch. :-)

General Discussion / Another note of absence
« on: April 10, 2014, 03:05:31 pm »
Well the time has finally come for me to grow up and actually finish my education. After having spent 9 years in Aarhus I am finally due to hand in my thesis and go out into the world. I am turning it in the 30th of this month so I wont be around too much before that.Secondly when I have -finallly- turned that in I have two weeks empty my appartment and say goodbye to my friends, as I am flying out to Japan the 15th of May to start my new life as a postdoctoral researcher. So I will be without a computer to run NWN on at least for the first bit of time. If you need to contact me though I am available through pm.
