"lowbie" quests?
« on: November 16, 2007, 11:24:55 am »
I know I'm a new hand at Layonara, and I haven't been here very long, but I would like to know if there are any GM run quests that are in the level range of say...5-7? I've looked over the calendar and read through some of the posts here, and I've got say, there's not much opportunity for me to actually get involved yet O.o  I know many of you have been playing Layonara for much longer than I have and of course the GMs have to cater to the majority of the playing levels. I try to jump in and RP as much as I can when events take place (I am a Collector of Knowledge after all), but other than that I can't contribute much since my level is still a bit low.

If not, I understand. The quests I have found from NPCs around the area (Vehl, Hlint, etc) are still too difficult to handle alone, and when I do party up with other PCs some of the quests I have are still beyond the abilities of even the two of us. So maybe I just need pointed in the right direction. I'm not trying to "power-level", but playing alone is getting kinda boring :(  and it's definitely not why I wanted to play in a PW.

Feel free to talk to Valmara about anything you'd like to do (Vendar met her at the Johan quest).  She'll help you out, and try to keep you from getting killed, while also trying to let you do as much as you can on your own.  Many people here will do the same thing; don't be shy!

By the way, you may be new but I liked your RP.

Aye; great RP, man. I'm glad to run around with you any day. And none of my characters would object, either.

Valmara's Husband Shiff (aka me) Would do the same, though Shiff isn't really someone Vendar should be going around with.  Shiff's at least 10 levels higher then Vendar  =)

But if you ever need advise, or someone to just get you somewhere, Shiff can help.

There are DM'd quests for levels 1 through 10 occasionally, but not very many.  Open-level quests are not too uncommon, though.  There never have been many low-level quests, mostly because the first few levels usually go by so fast that it's hard to get a full party.  Characters who fall in the level range when a low-level quest is posted could be well above the range by the time the quest is actually run.

Don't let the lack of low-level quests discourage you.  You have a good chance of making a few levels pretty quickly, and then you'll be right in the mix.  Remember, too, that there are more ways to be involved than just being on DM'd quests.  Just playing your character in a group, roleplaying who he is, makes a difference.  People who have posted already seem to agree. *points up*  Don't worry too much about the numbers and how much you are contributing mechanically; everyone starts out small.

If you really want to jump right into a quest, send a PM to the DM running the quest you'd like to join.  The level range is not always set in stone, but there may be good reasons that the lower limit is set where it is, too.  Just understand that characters below the suggested minimum have a good chance of being squashed quickly if something dangerous pops up.  Such is the life of the adventurer.

I am thinking of running a few of those 1-10 just to get the ball rolling again. So never fear ;-)

Yes, keep an eye out for the open level quests (though I'm glad Tan will run some specifically for low-levels). Most the quests I run are open level. Also, if you're having trouble finding folks to group with when you're online, don't be afraid to send a tell, even if it's to someone you don't know. Folks here are generally friendly and also want to group up if they aren't already deep inside some ancient ruin. It's easy to RP "bumping" into someone if you give it a shot. Seriously, most of us don't have time to sit around and wait for a group to find us; we have to go and find the group. If I'm online and Isee you're online, I'll send you a tell.

Thanks for all the friendly advice. I was also told to check the server status page before logging on so I know who is around my level to send tells to for grouping. Great advice everyone and I'm proud to be a part of such a great community. :D

@Darkstorme Is it possible to put a location on there too closer to the date? Thanks!
