another equipment quest?
« on: November 02, 2005, 04:38:00 am »
How about another equipment quest at level 12 or somewhere near that. You have to fill up the lockers of a towns barracks (like fort llast and kits quest) on completion you get helm of armor 3 and lose helm of armor 2. Helm of armor 3 gives 2 charges of barkskin at the same level as 2 and 2 charges of stoneskin with 5/- damage resistance

sound any good?

There was a similar thread not so long ago, proposing Stoneskin potions. Pankoki however gave a clear answer that there won't be more damage reduction/resistance, those are too overpowered if given to everybody's use and somewhat decrease the necessity of mages/sorcerers/clerics in fighter groups. Also, that would pretty much negate most of ranged damage you'd get from the majority of foes on that level. So in my opinion... too overpowered and not going to happen.  :)

*nods* another type of bonus would be better, if it should be implementet at all. Most figthers turn into killing machines when they have stoneskin...

[orange]Pretty much what you stated s0ulz. We have no problem with flavourfull item rewards that are somewhat functional. But rewards that simply replace the need for a class will not happen. To this day I find it hard to believe that when a druid offers a much better, longer lasting barkskin people will still use the helmet of armour for gods know what reasons.  So no, it wont happen. We are trying to real hard for people to find balanced party and not have everyone be a fighter with perks. [/orange]

I believe there are posts stating that they want to get rid of damage resistance, not bringing more of it in Layo. At this moment the helmet is already a VERY powerful item. Most players will use it until they get epic.

Fighters in Layonara already have a VERY good life. They get most of the AC buffs that should be magic only. I mean barkskin, mage armor, shield, those already give a huge bonus to AC compared to what a fighter should have. So asking for stoneskin is pushing it. Layonara is mostly party based and as such taking the best spells from other classes and putting them on items isn't exactly the best route to take.

Edited the bad part

hmmm, i don't know what to say, fighters live a dangerous life compared to most spell casters. They can't run invisble through dangerous areas...

PS: If you ask me priests are overpowered...

Can we please stick to constructive criticisms? Nothing is served by starting in on the "overpowering class" line of thought. The team here in Layonara has worked VERY VERY hard to try and address many issues that NWN brought with it in terms of unbalancing classes. And to that end, they have done a great job. Pretty much any class can be pointed at as having "unfair" advantages. But those advantages that each class gets are exactly that - advantages of the class.
Every class gets advantages that will make it more appealing to one sort of player or another. That's the point. But to get into the arguments over which class is too overpowering doesn't really serve any constructive purpose.
Now, if you see what seems to be a class  specific exploit, or "I win" button, then by all means, bring it up in the ideas forum. But remember, if you do, it helps to have a FAIR idea for a solution, and even if you don't have a solution, keep the post constructive.

Hmm... there is no reason to become so aggressive, I was not criticizing anyone, not the GM team, any players, the writers of NWN or the writers of the D&D rulebooks. I was just stating what I saw as a fact, and that is: If one class could populate Layonare not needing help from any other class it would be the clerics. They can buff themselves into a state where they beat any of the fighters types in combat. If they get wounded they heal, and if they need help they can summon and buff their summons. Besides these advantages they are also able to use offensive spells.

And i have a suggestion for balancing: remove all cleric summons.

Heheh, the problem there is that there has been put a lot of effort in the different clerical summons. Still the best way to balance the cleric would be to be more strict on their ethos. If a cleric isn't supposed to be wearing full plate armor, he shouldn't just be able to customize the full plate to look like something else.

If you want balanced classes instead of diversity i suggest you go look at WoW or DAoC or something similar. As i recall Layo is a RP server. Do you really want all characters to be the same, and be able to do the same things? This discussion is not new, and the answer has been the same each time it has been taken up.

Nope, I don't want all classes to be able to do the same things, I have never said that or even indicated it. I just said that I thought clerics were overpowered, nothing more...

But I was told to suggest a solution if I thought that clerics were overpowered, and so I did.

Do anyone do that? That is really poor RP taste.

Agreed about it being poor taste. Smite them! Smite them!
