CNR - Suggestion - Weight Reduction Enchantment

Weight reduction enchantments that are addable like rods likely available in Weight reduction I,II,III,and IV (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%.)
I'm not going to suggest recepies this time because my recipies end up being too easy heh.
I'd think they should be fairly high end stuff, but also, since I believe weight reduction adds to the level req of an item, I dont think many people will add these untill they have quite a bit of room between the level req of their armor and their current level. Which will be fairly high since having the best armor or best rod you can use will likely be deemed more important than having the best weight reduction.

I really like this idea, and i agree that it should be hard to make these.
Which items did you have in mind for the recipe, though?

I don't know if this will end up getting buy-off or not, but it does have promise as an idea. I would suggest though that the "enchantments" actually be alchemical enchantments like the silver/titanium for a couple reasons. That trade could use some stuff at the very high end and it also makes sense that you are perhaps transmuting the object you apply it to.

heh, there was a suggestion category before too, but a couple of my threads were moved to bugs and L had said that he kept suggestions there too.
With the reorganization of the categories I guess this ones getting used more. I'll post suggestions here in the future.

VGN, have any ideas about these recepies? i'm trying to think of something that is connected to being light, or air. All I've thought of along those lines are mithril and feathers, which... make a really bad recepie heh.
Maybe essence of vanishing and essences of strength? Vanishing since some of the weight is dissapearing... and strength because the enhancement is kindof simulating strength? And then some diamond dust to pull the magic together.
Just some rough ideas. We'll have to split it into the four different strengths, but I figured it would be good to go for the concept first

- 3 x Ingots of Cobalt - 1 x Rod IV - 5 x Diamond Dust - 2 x Essence of Vanishing - 1 x Dust of Dissapearance - 4|3|2|1| x Enchanted Fire Opal|Enchanted Diamond|Enchanted Ruby|Enchanted Emerald (each X respectively)
Can put like... 35 Stirge feathers which make a box of mindless gathering to put some slow down.

maybe for the progression:
Weight Reduction I (20%)
3 Ingots of Adamantium
2 Diamond Dust
2 Rod III
2 Essence of Vanishing
1 Dust of Dissapearance
4 Enchanted Fire Opals
Weight Reduction II (40%)
6 Ingots of Adamantium
4 Diamond dust
4 Rod III
4 Essence of Vanishing
2 Dust of Dissapearance
3 Enchanted Diamonds
Weight Reduction III (60%)
3 Ingots of Cobalt
2 Ruby dust
2 Rod IV
6 Essence of Vanishing
3 Dust of Dissapearance
2 Enchanted Ruby
Weight Reduction IV (80%)
6 ingots of Cobalt
4 Ruby Dust
4 Rod IV
8 Essence of Vanishing
4 Dust of Dissapearance
1 Enchanted Emereld
Though it might be better to only have 20 and 40% available, kindof like how there's only resists I and II.
I changed the metal needed to be slightly different since the cobalt will be the hardest part to get barring the emereld in the fourth one. If they all used cobalt and all the same amount there wouldnt be much point in making a weight reduction I over a II or III (since the emereld is still keeping the IV a lot more difficult.)

Rather than having -wands- to do this, why not make it a higher part of the craft that made it? Anyone can make an armor, but only a master can make it protect you the same, but take off a few pounds of useless metal or leather off? It would mean more CNR entries in the DB, but I think it would help express the low-magic feel. Not everything in the world can be solved by a piece of magic glass.
And, rather than having a -whole- new set of armors, you can just use forsettii's enchanting properties to add it onto the item. He does some pretty amazing stuff. That's how I found Layonara after all, his Enchanting thing on nwvault.

hmm, I agree with you kimiko. Even if they were magical or slightly magical as they became higher level weight reductions, a lot of the enchanted weapons armors that are made in the lore of this type of setting are done by the smithies (especially dwarves.)
I think it should be done the same way as rods (as you said.) But use the rod to represent the crafter working on the armor or weapon improving it as opposed to just adding a rod (we could just rp it this way.)
If this approach is taken the recepies should be altered a bit, employing enchanted ingots (a smith using enchanted metal makes sense for this, as well as the diamond dust etc.)
Perhaps all the other ingredients could be mixed by an alchemist except the ingots and the dust, similar to the way a lucinda's touch is made for scribers.
Recepie ideas coming in a minute

Bah, I just realized you can only enchant copper, bronze, gold, platinum, silver, and titanium.
Armor Crafting:
Weight Reduction I
3 Ingots of Adamantium
2 Diamond Dust
1 Essence of Elemental Weightlessness I (ingredient that will be made through alchemy, and... i just made up the name, I'm sure we can think of one that isnt so long.)
Weight Reduction II
6 Ingots of Adamantium
4 Diamond dust
2 Essence of Elemental Weightlessness I
Weight Reduction III
3 Ingots of Cobalt
2 Ruby dust
1 Essence of Elemental Weightlessness II
Weight Reduction IV
6 Ingots of Cobalt
4 Ruby dust
2 Essence of Elemental Weightlessness II
Alchemy:
Essence of Elemental Weightlessness I
2 Rod III
2 Essence of Vanishing
1 Dust of Dissapearance
2 Enchanted Fire Opals
Essence of Elemental Weightlessness II
2 Rod IV
5 Essence of Vanishing
3 Dust of Dissapearance
2 Enchanted Diamonds
This way both alchemy and armor crafting are involved, though it might be adding too many CNR items, so instead of making four alchemical essences I just did two with the weight reductions II and IV requiring two of the essences I and II respectively.
However this worked the emereld out of it entirely which may not be good, and the only enchanted gems needed are fire opals and diamonds. I had enchanted rubies being used for the essences II, but I didn't like how the weight reductions then required rubies and ruby dust since you could kill two birds with one stone then.
With these recepies the dusts and the metal will be the hardest to aquire.
I possibility I just thought of is to add 1 enchanted gem to each of the armor crafting steps. Its going to duplicate the gems going into the essences for some of them, but it would set their recepies apart more. What I'm saying is possibly add these to the armor crafting recepies:
Weight Reduction I:
1 Enchanted Fire Opal
Weight Reduction II:
1 Enchanted Diamond
Weight Reduction III:
1 Enchanted Ruby
Weight Reduction IV:
1 Enchanted Emereld

In my opinion, i think that the ingots needed for that enchantment aren't justifiable at all... i mean, Adamantium and Cobalt aren't easy to get, and no matter how nice these enchantments are, nothing would beat saving the ingots for another armor/weapon.
I would suggest reducing the ingots needed to:
Weight Redux I - 1 or 2 Ingots of Adamantium
Weight Redux II - 2 or 4 Ingots of Adamantium
Weight Redux III- 1 or 2 Ingots of Cobalt
Weight Redux IV - 2 or 4 Ingots of Cobalt.
Seems a lot fairer and accessible to me...

They arent supposed to be that accessible. But, true, 6 ingots of cobalt is a ludicrous number of nuggets.
I just went with the high numbers since I usually err on the side of making recepies too easy. So, if its too hard the numbers can be tweaked later. This itteration is more for the idea of the alchemy intermediary product.

Hi, the idea of craftable weight reduction bags is really cool, i like it.
I just find the use of metal ingots a bit wierd. You want to make bags right? Why isn't it based on tailoring instead, I mean, I see a tailor better suited to fabricate a bag out of leather or fabric which, will be most likely the materials used in the creation of a bag.
Using metal would be making boxes no?
Just an observation... I like bags so whatever way they are made is fine with me.

We already have Magical Bags that reduce the weight of items you put inside them, this is something different, like rods which you can apply to items, thus reducing their weight.

Yup these are to make your armor, shield, etc. itself lighter.
Just realized I wrote them backwards though, since as its listed in the toolset is not x% weight reduction, its x% of weight heh.
So, I suppose x% weight reduction is the same thing.. so... um, ya know what I mean
