Barkskin / Stoneskin

(1/2) > >>

Deacon:
How would you RP this if someone is using these spells?  I know that in NWN their body appears as it is made of bark or of stone, but in one of the books I was reading, a wizard had used this spell and the attacker didn't realize he had it on until he hit him a couple times and did no damage to him.  I wonder if there is a way to make it where the body doesn't turn to that skin when the spell is cast?

Dorganath:
I think the problem is that the body models aren't really separate from the clothing...if I understand properly.

This is why hoods obscure the whole face instead of letting the character's face peek out.

If the clothing were separate models that could be fit onto the body model, then what you suggest might be possible.  But I don't think it is possible in NWN.

Talan Va'lash:
yeah, I dont think it would be desirable to remove the VFX for these spells entirely, and making it so it only changed "skin" looking areas would be a lot of work and probably end up looking funky anyway.

Though I have heard of a wandlike tool that is used for removing the VFX, so you dont have to RP with barkskin on for the next 8 min if you just rested and cast it 2 min ago and are not going to be going into combat.  Not a big deal here with the short 10 min rest timer though.

Variable:
I quite like the barkskin effect, elthough that is becasue my cleric can cast it and it fits with him but, i would not like to not have it

One thing I'd note is that I don't think Barkskin gives any other indications it's in effect EXCEPT for the VFX...so it would be nearly impossible to know when it expired...especially if you happened to blink and miss the little "poof" as the effect wears off.  Unless I'm mistaken, there's no little "buff" icon at the top right to indicate barkskin.
