    In Game Bio
    « on: August 22, 2005, 10:00:00 am »
    Hello,

I am new to Layonara.  I didn't know where to post this question.  Here seemed like an appropriate place.

Though my character has not been approved yet, I was wondering.  What is the in-game bio format of the server like?

Is it a carbon copy of the character approval forum?
    Is it blank?
Is it "RP for more info"?
Or is it a physical description of the character sans the background?

I prefer the last but would like any clarification that can be provided.

Really, do it how you want...how you think it makes the most sense.

Many people prefer that. Also ensures people really need to ask about your past :)

I also have a question about the deity field.

Can the names of two deities be put into this field or will it cause trouble?

I almost think this should be a rule.  At least a little physical description.  There is only so much you can tell about a character from what is seen on the screen.  A brief description of what a person looks like would be great.  Besides, how do you RP asking someone what they look like when they are standing right in front of you?

One or none at all please. Some clerical spell effects will work or not based on the deity a character worships. However, if there are two deity names (or a misspelled name) it will not recognize it.
An example of this is the Raise/Resurrect spell, or the mass heal spell.

Personally (this is just imho) I'm a believer of nothing at all in the bio. Mainly due to the fact that my characters change quite a bit during play, their personalities change, their looks change, their equipment changes, they may even change what they tell people about their background.

So for me, putting anything at all in a bio is just asking for trouble, it's bound to end up wrong and you have to pester an Admin to change it for you only to have to go through the same process two, four or six months down the track.

You may start with a simple bio description with how your character has long flowing blonde hair and peircing blue eyes only to have IC trouble, dye your hair black and have to wear a hood and robe everywhere so when people look at you the description is so woefully at odds with what you actually look like it's laughable.

As for putting a short story in your bio, I find that a little too self indulgent :) . No one can possibly know your life's history by looking at you and to include such an excessive amount of detail in a bio is just asking for Meta Creap when you play.

RP for more info? I recon a blank bio says that pretty eloquently, after all, you have gone to the trouble of deleting the usual guff that is there, you must have done that for a reason ;)

I've seen some people put multiple descriptions in a Bio for the different modes the character operates in, awkward but sometimes works.
