Secret CD thread

Not sure if this is a suggestion or a question. CDQ's and WLDQ are all built around public actions of a character -- a CD thread that you post and maintain and is viewable by the community as a whole. Sometimes (not often) a characters public actions and private musings and plannings are so .. .well secret... that to put them in a public CD thread would be problematic. I myself have read things that I'm not sure I should've in CD's and I realize that the temptation to metagame is seductive. So my wondering is, is there some way for a character to build up the kind of paper trail that allows for CDQ and WLDQ's without having to share it with the community? Is there a way to post a CD that can only be viewed by Quest DM's? Is that too much of a responsibility for GM's who already work above and beyond what should be asked of part time volunteers? If we are thinking of actions that we are not trusting enough to share with community as a whole, should we re-think plans for said character? And yes, I am thinking about the actions of one of my characters as I pose this question. More specifically, I'm thinking about the future of one of my characters. Thanks for any suggestions, Redhawk

This is by no means an answer to the question rather than a personal solution. I have Rhynn's unabridged journal on my hard drive (its way behind where the journal I share with the public is). When (and if) I ever do something like apply for another CDQ or apply for world leader, I will probably hand in , if allowed, the unabridged journal to those who are tasked with looking over these things.

In my distant memory I remember a conversation of this sort with Panoki. While I agree with him on what he said about writing off site journals to justify language ears or some sort (how would we know you didn't just write it up right before applying) He did say that if something the GMs needed to know that you didn't want told in public. To tell them. Gms , I THINK have some sort of file on the happenings of some characters. For example the GMs know Rhynn's mouth was sealed by a devil and that Maev was abducted by vine members. So I am sure you can add it to the GM pool of knowledge to get it in there for further use.

There's my endless drivel

Always a touchy subject, but one I can certainly see the point of. In the case of WL, the decision such as that, the CD thread is only a small part of it.
I myself have 2 CD Journals for each of my characters. The one that gets posted on the site and the one I keep on my PC. When I submitted for WL, the GM in question got the home one as it contained information that the other did not. There was the effort I had put into the site one, and the effort I had in the home one.
Very difficult (though not impossible) for some one to whip up a 25 page journal in 1-7 days that sounds like it was written over the course of months with the evident ebb and flow of character development. And if they can pull it off, all the power to them, as they must have a good handle on the character.
Some characters have gone epic/WL without a character development journal. There is no rule you have to have one unless you plan on applying for certain prestige classes.

We do, mostly to keep track of things that happened to characters on quests, so that we remain consistent. Like these examples:

or example the GMs know Rhynn's mouth was sealed by a devil and that Maev was abducted by vine members.

Now sending us all char dev threads that shouldn't be metagamed about is probably not a good idea, as that would probably mean a lot of work. But if it's really really important, it might be a good idea.
And for example people who want to obtain the evil alignment, still have to submit on the forums, where everyone can see, for the sake of transparency.

What Ed Said:

Plaguing GM Inboxes with CDTs? Bad

One line to one paragraph VERY important information that should not be metagamed? Probably okay.

I just wanted to make a quick comment about the meta-gaming. Layonara has proven to be a server with some very good role-playing. Even the younger players have demonstrated mature actions in relation to what their PC’s should have knowledge of, and what they should not. I keep everything in my CDT visible for everyone, and would still do it even if there were not a requirement tied to my character goals. I have had very little visible meta-gaming directed at my character, and when it was, I just ignored it. It was no big issue. On one occasion, a casual OOC reminder fixed the problem. My advice is don’t worry about it, but if it is a concern, there have been several good suggestions made previously. :-)
