So far I've not been RPing the death penalties.
But with -4 across the board my character turns
into a complete retard.

I was just thinking about this. Yesterday, I went to the bank while suffering from the death penalties. The dialog adjusted to my low intelligence so I said something like "You gimme shineys." That's when I realized that my intelligence was 8. Perhaps this explains why I often try to recover my grave when common sense says I should wait it out.

So in general, are we going to start role playing the penalties? I've only seen people RP the strength loss, and that's because it's enforced by the game engine. Seems like the obvious thing to do, but I don't think it's occurred to most people.

Some people do, some people don't. Strength, dex and con are for the most part played, because they're often clearer in the way they affect the char, decreased movement and such.

I've seen some players RP there low charisma, intelligence is a bit different however.

A fighter with 8 intelligence or wisdom, 4 after death might makes quite a good idiot.

If he'd RP it, he'd probably has forgotten where he even died. So retrieving the grave might become a problem then. Or he remembers it, but he thinks that this time he should be able to handle the balor, that killed him the first time. :)

EDIT: Disclaimer.. this post is not to be taken too serious. The author does not take responsibility for any effects this post may have on RP'ing on Layonara. Especially for fighters who actually decide to visit the balor for a second time.

I've thought about this as well, since I play a fighter type and spent much of his early life fighting to the death.  Luckily, Cole has a rather high Int, so even at a -4 he still has an above average intelligence.... his Wis, however, stinks to begin with, which is probably why he's lost XP in the 100's of thousands.  =P

Oh, the number of times Pyyran has forgotten where his grave lay... Usually due to the fact that he got killed at an AT, and his grave is shoved back in one of those holes BEHIND the AT... But hey, it works out. xD

I usually just play Pyyran as a bit more reckless than usual. Or rather, as reckless as he was to begin with, before he learned how much a brush with the Soul Mother hurt.

I think that to go with the general fatigue implied by the stat loss it would be more like a normally intelligent character having a bout of absent-mindedness.  Not a complete retard, just not as witty and lucid as normal.  Int is one of those tricky factors that isn't cleanly understood enough to roleplay it well in most cases.

After your 10th or 20th death though the charm of roleplaying it generally seems to wear off in favor of just wanting to get your grave back so you can resume playing normally :P
