    multiclass RP question
    « on: September 06, 2006, 04:08:43 pm »
Ok, first a disclaimer: I have not decided this is my plan of attack, so fear not all you rogue purists :D Just a question about an idea that was dancing through my head.

If I were to request a multiclass to fighter [which was not originally in submission] for Gilli at a later date, I was thinking that an appropriate way to roleplay that would be to ask a fighter type character to train him in a more combat oriented way with his blade. This would of course take place for a significant amount of time prior to the re-submission. Now, assuming that was acceptable in the re-submission, would the tutor need to be of the fighter class, or would someone of the cleric or paladin class be a suitable teacher as well? Technically they would know their way around a sword, but since it's not the class being sought I wasn't sure. And second, since Gilli will likely never use anything larger than a shortsword, would that character [regardless of class] need to have extensive experience with the shortsword? I wouldn't expect a cleric who strictly uses a mace to be the right choice, but I would assume the rapier or longsword would be similar enough for the purpose of teaching the skills.

Well, I'd say that anyone with Martial Weapon Proficiency and Heavy Armor Proficiency would do the trick... If you're planning on specializing in a specific weapon, you'll want a teacher who wields a size-appropriate weapon of the same type. In other words, a longsword in a Medium character's hands would be appropriate for a shortsword in a Small character's hands.
