A merchant's tale
« on: June 03, 2007, 08:44:35 am »
Last night, all across southern Mistone, mysterious lights were seen.
One merchant, one his way to Port Hempstead, tells this tale.

“Flashes of light and sound erupted from the south, sounding like a battle of maniacal insanity and corruption against what can only be described as the order and sanctity of life.

The ground shook, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was felt from Fort Vehl to Fort Wayfare. From the direction of Dapplegreen, ribbons of magical energy struck through the forest scarring the landscape singeing the growth.

I saw two figures outlined in the eruptions. One dressed in white wielding a staff, the other in black what seemed to be a short blade.
The two exchanged blows for what seems an age, magic flew from each impact, wounds healing before my eyes but new ones springing forth as the battle continued. They battled, heedless of the surroundings, unaware of my presence.
They screamed at one another, in a language I couldn’t discern above the battle, neither one seemed willing to give up, they looked, close to being spent now though and only willpower kept them standing.
The mysterious figure in white hit the dark creature one last time with his staff. The creature staggered and strikes out with his blade with what seemed his last strength.

The one in white fell, then one in black fell to his knees, leaning on his blade.

The world seemed to tremble violently. The air screamed as it was torn apart, waves rippled through it as far as I could see.

My head and body reeled in agony from the effect. The body of the white robed figure illuminated for a moment, a calming and healing aura washed over the surrounding area. It penetrated the ashen sky above and touched upon it, briefly tearing the clouds and showing the sky as it used to be before the fall of Bloodstone.
Then his body expanded and seemed to become one with the air, swirling around the still kneeling black figure.
Immediately, the smell of burning flesh filled my nostrils as a searing sound originated from the dark hooded figure, a small fire puffed to life from its abdomen and a wave of embers burst forth, consuming the body in an ever growing circle and then it was gone.

I went to take a look, and the ground below the black hooded figure is left without life. Its silhouette present for all to see...

A bad thing that, a bad thing. It was an epic battle to be sure, with only speculation as to who these great bodies were. Something vast had changed with in the world, and I’m not sure it’s good.”

//Thanks to Rowana & Eorendil for running the series. Also thanks to the players who participated in these series, although if you got out of it what you hoped remains to be seen :)

The Dragon's Whisper is seeking information on the goings on recently outside Hempstead.  There are whispers of a fierce battle of great magic.

((OOC
This seems like a fairly significant event.  Sure would be nice to write the details down and credit the PC(s) involved and the impact to the world.
