About The Temple Of Rofirein In Fort Vehl

... a young dwarf is seen on a semi-frequent if irregular basis. When he visits, he makes brief, somewhat clumsy prayers to the All-Seeing. He often asks the temple staff if he can lend a hand with anything, or if the temple needs guarding.

Perhaps after being given several chores to do and told that the temple has sufficient guard, he asks if they need help patrolling the streets of Vehl.

Daniel pauses in his many trips to and for from the temple and regards the young dwarf before approaching, "Excuse me, sir. If you are seeking full time employment as a guard for the Temple, Justicar Reus is in charge of such matters, if you seek employment with the city watch, you must contact Vehl's ruling council. Which is it you wish to do?"

"Ay be Naldin," the dwarf introduces himself when the man addresses him.
Naldin listens to the mustachioed man who obviously holding some position of authority within the church.
"Ay were thinkin' tha patrols from tha temple woold be bringin' tha presense o' tha Great Dragun deep'r into thus hoive o' scum an' villainy."
Naldin pauses for the man's response. Given that he allows Naldin to continue, "Tha people woold be feelin' saf'r un thar beds, an' be able ta lead bett'r loives.
"Tha
toon guard
ar' really tha merchant guard, aye. Fer tha protection o' tha warehooses an' guild halls, loike. A lot o' them ar' nay much
bett'r
than tha thugs an' thieves thar meant ta be protectin' tha folks against."

Daniel smiles a bit at Naldin, "I see. I am Knight Captain Daniel Poetr, Naldin, a pleasure to meet you. As for your desire to patrol the city proper, others such as yourself have had similiar thoughts and while I cannot fault the intent the execution has been somewhat ..shall we say, less than desired. The Church has little authority in the streets of Vehl, so if such is your intent, you must be made aware that your actions would not be sanctioned. Perhaps you would be better served by taking the odd job about the city, eh?"

"A knoight!" Naldin seems quite impressed.
"Little authority, eh? Hmm. Even so, thar woold nowt be wrong wid, say, two temple guard walkin' aboot tha streets, aye. Folk woold be less loikely ta be behavin' poorly un front o' tha servants o' the Lord Protect'r. An' knowin' wot they stan' fer, folk woold be feelin' a bit more secure aboot oth'r folk behavin' bett'r too, aye."

Daniel gives a nearby guard a scathing glance, "If only it would, Naldin." He sighs, "The truth is you are quite correct about the guards in Vehl, they work for coin and the merchants who pay them , not for true justice. You may have a point about the Gold's followers keeping an eye on the streets, but they would lack authority to do much but report any findings to the guard, what little good that may or may not do. Still, I will consider your suggestion."

"Ah, but what if someone were killed or injured, Naldin? Such as a guardsman of this city? It is not so simple a thing to do what you know is just."

The discussion goes back and forth, touching on knights, cudgels and clubs, and Captain Rord at various points.
Daniel recommends Naldin speaks to High Justiciar Reus.
