Anomaly in the Al’Noth - Near Vale
« on: September 29, 2015, 11:37:08 am »
Continued from  Anomaly in the Al’Noth - Falls ForestAs Lola paces the perimeter, she is sickened by the absences of her gift. She cannot sense anything. The irregular throbbing and pulsing of the anomaly quickens her heartbeat. Although she is pretty sure it is just her imagination, she feels as if there is some type of vacuum sucking the Al’Noth from everything. The nearby plant life even looks less vibrant, dull almost. As she walks around a tree and the anomaly is out of sight for a few seconds, things become… *Dramatic pause* interesting. There is a deafening crack of lightning and thunder, and as she peeks around the tree shards of wood fly in all directions as dozens of lightning bolts emit from the disturbance in all directions. Trees are ripped in half by the energy. A wave of salty water erupts from the core of the pulsating field accompanied by a strong gust of wind as it suddenly expands and winks out of existence with an abrupt sucking sound. Lola is nearly swept away by this sudden flash flood, but manages to grab a small sapling and haul herself partway up its shaking trunk. A few minutes later the waters have subsided and a large armored fish with sharp teeth, a species never before seen on Layonara flops helplessly on the now muddy forest floor. She can feel a rush of Al’Noth back into the void as her gift returns. She shakes her head in astonishment at the event and spits out some salt water. She thought she glimpsed a ropelike extension from the disturbance just as it disappeared. She cannot be sure though.

Soaked and terrified, she

Soaked and terrified, she slides out of the tree and hugs the trunk for long minute or two. Once her breathing settles the little wilder moves around the area, testing for any new anomoly or residual dead magic.

Once her investigation is done, and knowing there isn't anyone left in Vale to tell, she wraps the odd fish and makes as much haste as she can toward Spellgard, stopping only at the nearest civilization to get something with which to preserve the fish and send bird messages to Farros, Stephen, Brualot, Tralek, Lana, Ryubi, and a rough map and sort-of-sketch of the events to Milum. For Milum, she draws the fish as best she can with arrows pointing to the anomoly.

If Lola reaches Spellgard

If Lola reaches Spellgard safely, she requests to make a report about a dead magic zone that "imploded into water" in the Falls Forest. If she is given audience, she will describe the first, second, and third times she visited the place, mentioning Stephen Poetr's name as he had actually touched the thing and the second unnamed body. She describes the fluctuations and pulsing of the anomoly and how it appeared to increase over the weeks. With as much detail as she can remember she speaks of the thunder, lightning, wind, and vast sucking sound; the shards bark, the gusts of wind, the trees ripped twain; and the flash flood in the middle of the forest where there are no streams or rivers for miles. The wilder shakes in her recounting, whether from fear or residual excitement.

She pauses here to show them the remains of the fish that flopped in the aftermath of the implosion, the odd, boney fish with the armored plating, the likes of which she has never seen and has no name for. Backing up, she adds the story of the Five closing a wild magic zone near Farmer Parts on Alindor - in this her joy of participation and particularly for the feeling of wild magic are obvious. Wrapping up she notes that in the case of the wild magic zone, there was a definite sense of placement, deliberate, and of a tethering, although her eyes were tight shut during the ritual.  And in the dead magic zone she is certain she saw a rope-like tether, or appendage, or something...it was a blink's worth of memory and then it vanished.

After this she waits to see if she's believed and if they have any questions.

A particular halfling listens

A particular halfling listens with interest, having winked and nodded her way into a place to overhear with the sort of lazy, entitled attitude of a cat that owns the space it basks in. Of course she was there, why wouldn't she be? She'd merely saved them the trouble of inviting her.

In place of her usual traveling attire, there are fluttering scarves over a faded ribbon dress, clinking rune stones in her hair, and only a belt of keys instead of enough to furnish a suit of armor.

Fascinating! she brightly announces, in the breath before others might have spoken. Her mirthful eyes dance, as though she's told a particularly good joke...
