Fire in Angel's shop (Port Hempstead fields)
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:08:00 pm »
For any who come by they will notice a large ruined burned up rug sitting outside the Angel's shop and when entering, notice scorch marks on the floor, and smell the scent in the air.

Elohanna seen around the store trying to clean up what she can, and waiting for any other Angel's to come by so they can speak with local contractors for repairs she can't complete.

Aden frowns, studies the rug briefly befor entering the Shop.

Iracce Elly. You okay? What happened?

He then begins to help her with the clean-up and the repairs, assessing the damage.

"Love!  What happened?"  Andrew comes in just hours after their talk, dropping a wooden box of supplies and checking if she and Aden are unharmed.

*Jil hears talk about some kind of fire and finally makes her way to the Merchant shop.  Her nose crinkles at the acrid smell of smoke still lingering in the place.  She surveys the damage and speaks with Elly and Andrew, 1st on what had happened, then about what is needed to be done to fix things properly.*

Very minor burns are seen on her clothing, but on the whole Elly is physically fine.

"The rug caught on fire. I thought for awhile the entire shop was going to go up. But I found a scroll and managed to put it out before it spread to far. The benches are destroyed though and their may be some smoke damage to some of the equipment and instruments. But the shop is fine."

She looks between the gathered. "We can't put any more rugs near the fireplaces though. That's what started this. We were lucky no one was hurt. I was the only one here."

*later after hearing about the fire, Daniel stops by with some supplies and other materials requested by the guild second.* Lucky indeed. *he mutters surveying the minor damage before beginning to cleanup and remove the worst burnt pieces*

* A note is stuck to the door of the shop the next day *

Dear Angels Guild Members,

I heard about the recent "accident" at your shop.  How lucky you were that this fire was able to be quenched before rendering it all into a smoldering pile of ashes.  Next time there will be much more irreparable damage.

LONG LIVE THE DESTROYER!  MORTALS WILL BURN WITH THE WRATH!

*Jil sees the note and tears it off the door so as not to let the customers see it.  She scans the area about the shop outside for movement and/or watchers using available spells to see what others can not.  Then she looks down and scans the ground, trying to see what tracks were left behind.    She makes a circular loop around the outside of the place, inspecting around trees and brush for any signs of someone standing and watching the place from sight.  When satisfied she had found all she could, she heads into the back of the shop for the guild members to see the note.*

Threats?!  Really?!  *She is clearly angered*  According to this note left behind by a coward who refuses to show their face, the 1st time was not accidental.  I will not let this put customers or my family here in danger.  We need to do what can be done to "fire protect" the place.  Those of us that stay near the shop need to keep a sharper eye out for strangers.  If you have any stealth abilities or have use of spells, see if you can come into the area under such guises, perhaps you may see something.  *She rubs the bridge of her nose, eyes closed in thought.*

Andrew cleans the scorched floors and stone hearth and starts replacing what floorboards need it.  When the store is empty but for he and his wife, he sings, but only for her.

When she hears of the threat, she goes back over the store and studies it closer, once she is in a clearer state of mind, trying to determine if it was indeed accidental or someone trying to claim credit for something more nefarious and them being right. Studying the Al'noth for remnants of being used to cause the fire, and sends her findings to the Tower Academy, requesting the aid of trusted friends there to help them, with protections for the shop, and offering to pay for them herself.

Then settles in the back of the shop with Andrew, glad he is at least singing for her. holding onto him gently.

After spending time with some of the people in the outlaying village of Hempstead, helping them with some menial work on there farms Brugah heard talk of the incident at the Angel's shop and decided he'd help them investigate.

With not many people knowing of him and the ridicules he's endured simply for being an orc. Brugah pressed on as he always has yet cautiously as he entered the shop. His fitted clothing and long hair did well to mask some of his orcish appearance. Long sleeves, pants, gloves and boots and his hair acting almost like a hood though he still had the large brawny look. Burn marks and damaged floors, walls and benches were among the first things he noticed,  to the melody being sung of which he found quite present. With rumors of the fire originating from the fire place, that was the first place he looked. kneeling down by the fireplace he began sifting through the ashes. With the others in the shop distracted by the melody, Brugah manages to get to work searching the fireplace without any problems.

After some searching he found a chard stick with a bit of burnt cloth wrapped around one end. Holding it in hand carefully and examining it. Recalling bits of his life in his old tribe to help. Finding the torch just a little far from the fireplace and partially buried in the ashes, appearing to look like a piece of firewood under the ashes, getting Brugah to think it may be the cause of the fire, and the chimney shaft being a good way for a lit torch to come in... should one happen to get on the roof.

Standing and holding the burnt torch in hand as he turns to look to the others in the shop, holding up the torch. His farming disguise broken as his orcish face is now looking at those in the room. "Excuse me... you sell... torches?"

*An aged man in green with red trim armor walks into the shop...katana at his side. He pulls the hood back to reveal a grey haired but familiar face.*

"I heard about the fire and came as quickly as I could. Is everyone alright?"

*Seeing the expression on Jil's face...he grows more concerned.*

"Jil? Anyone hurt?"

Poor Elohanna's feelings mostly.  She was here when it happened.  Most of the damaged has been cleaned up for appearances, but there are some things that still need to be done ... *Her voice trails off as she overhears the man holding a torch, holding up a finger to Kyle to handle signal "A moment"*

After taking some time to regain her thoughts and clarity of mind, Elohanna visits other shops nearby, and inquires with the guards near the city gates if anything similar has happened within the city, since she is not allowed in. She also takes more time to study the remnants of the fire to see if there is any familiar magic to it, such as the magic that was used in the Farms fires, not far away.

She tries her best to figure out if her captures could have been behind it, or someone else, not letting it simply go as an accident, until it is absolutely proven so. She also asks to see the letter to see if she can determine its origins, and to see who could have sent it, if there is anything familiar about the handwriting.

And she just generally tries to keep herself busy trying to keep herself occupied.

Andrew, staying close to his wife and their daughter Lola, accompanies her and visits other shops to inquire about threats or arson.  He browses goods for trade or purchase for the Buckle as well.

Daniel takes a different tack, instead asking the farmers around the store if they saw anything odd that day at the store before the fire and commotion.  After , he makes his way into the kobold camp nearby, heavily warded, but sword sheathed.  Upon seeing the first of the kobolds, "I would speak to your most recent leader."

As the Angels scour the areas around the city and farmlands of Hempstead, they find that the shop burnings have seemed to begin to taper off but trade has begun to slow for many of the merchants and guilds in the area.

A few customers that have come into the shop recently just looked at prices of wares, and wrote down costs in a notebook as if performing a survey.  As the Angels begin to also survey fellow business owners, they have stated that after paying the required 'taxes' and 'trade union fees', their shops were spared from further destruction by the Merchant Union Society of Hempstead.

More bold merchants who have refused to join MUSH have either had their shops and stalls burned to the ground or just plainly haven't been seen for quite a while, said to have picked up their shops and 'moved North' or 'relocated to Dregar'.

Just north or Hempstead, outside the village a chard body can be found, an orc by the looks of it wearing the cloths of a village farmer. To any that can recognize him. It was Brugah. Clinched tightly in one hand he held a small parchment, burns and singes line what what was not in his hand though the rest one might think could possibly still be intact.

//Oh, poor Brugah... such a short life he lived...and not all that exciting of one ether... wanting so desperately to help but guess he made the mistake of asking to many questions and well... got burned.

//I'll leave what the parchment says (if anything) to you guys... not really even sure if this matter has been done and over with now or not... but this marks the unfortunate end of Brugah.
