Fresh from the Fort
« on: June 26, 2008, 06:17:50 am »
Nus the Bard was seen around Fort Wayfare obtaining the latest reports from forces posted in the Dark Peaks area. Corathite necromancers and foul plotters were litterally unearthed within their deep burrows by a Lucindite led sortie acting on behalf of the Army of Wayfare. Initial reports suggest they chose to go down fighting, and that their infernal summoning were destroyed.

A group of Gnomes and a small order of monks were said to have fled the scene, their presence there at odds with the Corathites but concerning nonetheless. Best information suggests they have been searching for lost relics.

Found among the remains of the fallen was a Gnomish scroll which made references to the location and strength of defences at Fort Wayfare. This important find was put to the general at the fort who said. " No need be alarmed at this time, information like this occassionally goes astray, and whilst we do not feel there is any cause for concern we advise citizens to remain alert while a review of the defences is carried out."

Nus was later seen to pack his bags and head south.

~The latest happenings in the outskirts of the Peaks~

The missing mage and footman: The first events which catched my interest in what is going up up in the Blue Valey area and beyond. I was going to attend a lecture about scrying held by the Silkwood Witch but this was interupted as the mage in Wayfare, Cenital who were going to help her, had disappeared.
We sought for him in Wayfare and eventually got involed in the search for footman Relok, appearently this young footman had headed out to search for Cenital too. We were informed that Relok were missing in the foothills of the mountains north of here.
We went forth and searched the foothills around what we can now pinpoint as Shadowwinds Tomb. We found the young footman captured by goblins who asked us to clear a haunted cave, ontop of what we later found was the tomb. We agreed to do that task for them to avoid any hostilities against the local goblin tribes.
Investigating and disposing of a few undead in the cave we found that someone had come there not too long before us, sadly we found the body of poor Cenital there too fallen to one of the traps. Appearently the place had been searched by a party of deep gnomes. At least that is what we suspect happened both by some clues left there and by a later encounter with deep gnomes.

Short introduction to Shadowwind: Shadowwind was the leader of a monestaric order and spying circle based in the mountains around five hundred years ago. He wore a helmet which was removed from the tomb by whoever searched it, this helmet also symblises his order and a small copy is worn by the people inside it in a necklase like a holy symbol.
The spies worked throughout the world, but were mostly focused on Mistone. Some suggest that Shadowwinds former carreer as an assassin still influenced the spying circles works, but this is not entirely certain. The order died with its master after around thirty years, rumour says that he died in a falling accident.

The goblin raids in Blue Valey: It all started with the burning of Holdback Bridge. It was at that point unclear wether or not the goblins would raze the whole valey so the decition was made to evacuate all the citizens of the remaining villages to Grenend.
This proved to stop the killing of innocent civilians, but a further investigation conducted by the new voulenteers proved that there was an increased goblin activity in the valey.
After investigating the ashes of Holdback Bridge and from there going towards Alynhill we found goblins but no razing. Searching through the city we found that only an old token was missing from the city hall. The town of Bernwater held against the goblin attacks with the help of the Wayfare Militia. Sadly enough a staff was stolen from town as the goblins retreated.
The artifacts themselves were from the battle of Greenend. The one from Greenend itself remained untouched by the goblins but a magical examination of it revealed nothing special about that one. Could be the case of the other artifacts but it is unknown at the time.
Another thing of notes were a band of monks who posed as lucindites but when asked to help a band of solciers back to Wayfare to aquire help for the valey they led the soldiers out of the way and left them in the mountains. We suspect that these people have some form of relationship with the people discovered later with the Shadowwing helmet around their neck.

More to come when more information has been aquired, reffer to Nus' statement for now

Rumours are circulating of a small mercenary group that was asked to travel west into the Dark Peaks to recover some item near the mining village of Nestling. However it appears the group returned empty handed with tall tales of undying undead and outlandish Offworlders. More credence might be given to their report that they caved an area in leaving the locals to seek new careers.

A wizard by the name of Serg decided to put the band back together again and revisit that dark place under Nestling - this time a more resolute group pushed down into the place, turning aside the creatures drawn there through a misfunctioning portal. The portal itself was examined and likely provided a way into the Grey Dwarf halls. However the party returned with their prize the Gnome's amulet, a runed magic item.

When they finally regrouped at Fort Wayfare to meet with the Gnome and deliver their amulet, they found the forces of Fort Wayfare putting the final touches on a plan to put a spy into the goblin camp. A Kobold at once volunteered to go on this mission, and the party followed along to prevent mishap, and their services were greatly needed.

Tales abound of Dragons, Goblins, Gnomes and shadow like summonings, Dark Peak Monks, and some unusual and trickier mixes of creatures most likely drawn from the caves of that foul place.

More certain is an initial report that a Goblin Tower was destroyed, and a plan to destroy Fort Wayfare uncovered in time to prevent any mishap..for now.
