Prunilla's Bountiful Harvest
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:48:53 pm »
Travelers may begin noticing second-hand chests set up in the poorer sections of Mistone's cities and villages. Sometimes a local citizen stands by the chest, offering passerby a free meal or a mild elixir of healing. In other smaller villages, the chest sits unattended.

The contents of the chest most often is fresh baked bread with perhaps some smoked fish or bottles of juice. In all, though, a small parchment placard rests within adorned with a pressed and dried clover. (Very careful inspection might reveal tiny fingerprints from the creator embossed in the glue holding the clover.)

A second chest shows up in Center. Made of thrown-off hickory scraps, a note is attached to the inside of the lid, away from the rain:

~ Free Donation Chests ~

To support the local people, temples, and towns, please take a donation box for your supper table. As you yourself enjoy the bounties of the land and others' hard work, please consider putting an equal amount into the chest.

These chests may be returned here, at Prunilla's Shrine, or at your own temple.

Special thanks to Angel's Guild for the generous donation.

A red-coated man is seen loading the chests with a sack of healthy-looking wheat grains, cloth-wrapped fresh bread, some salted meat, green and grey potions of healing, and some fish including salmon.  He smiles and flirts with the Lucky Clover at Center's shrine, telling her the items are for whomever needs and the wheat grains were taken from healthy ground that was growing normally and so, Ilsare willing (here he winces, but keeps talking) they should be strong for the next planting season.

Honeybee, checking on her donation chests in Center, is startled to find a note. Giggling a bit, she reads it aloud to the town crier.

"It says it's a recipe for honey smoked salmon, a favorite of the Red Light goblin's chief, if you can believe that. Take two portions of honey smoked salmon and place them on a bed of wheat bread. Add three clover leaves and serve with a single portion of rice cake."

Privately Honeybee hopes that the town crier will find this interesting enough to stop reciting elvish poems and repeating himself.

Small notes, adorned with a clover, are pasted within the interior of the chests in towns such as Center and Krandor.

Donations welcome from those that can

In addition to bread, rice, and smoked salmon most often found, simple rhubarb turnovers begin appearing wrapped in parchment for convenience on the road. Each of the turnovers is dusted with crystalized sugar and the small holes poked to release steam during baking form a clover pattern. They are, in a word, delicious!

"You see," Millon explained to the crier, as he dropped handfuls of cotton and various other things from his pack into the donation chest, panting. "I ran with the wood cause' it was heavy. Would have had to carry it longer if I had walked." He gave the man a slap on the shoulder, "Makes sense doesn't it?"

Near the tree in Center, a ways down from a "law and order" chest and the Prunillan's chests, a bard leaves a chest full of syrup, powdered silver, and bits of cured hide.  These things would be fairly useless to most who don't covet hotcakes or silver-coated leather...but a young spellcaster would know what they are for, should one happen along.

//free spell components, have at.

The tiny Prunillan looks delighted at what she finds in the donation chest after inquiring to the presiding Clover what they are.

"Bodak teeth!" she giggles and claps tiny hands.

((OOC Thanks to whomever dropped these off!

Vincent Coste, a mage, stops to relect on the dancing Brownie.

Two Bodak teeth in a chest, one of the seven signs of doom predicted by the seer Senitkomin, who himself tripped on a now rare fruit skin, fell and unfortunately died before his 9 th sign of doom could be revealed. There have been so many signs of frightful times ahead. I can only hope you have packed  that chest for the long haul. Famine is here, and with it, bandit, witch, Orc and a terrible danger  too grim to properly describe.
