Lonely skies

When you wake you notice a strange silence surrounding the normal chirping sounds of summer in the morning. As you walk around town the morning bustle is missing something that you can't quite place your finger on, eventually you dismiss it as something passing and continue with your day as normal.
Rangers and druids around the world realize that their winged friends are no longer in their nests or hunting worms and fish. Birds all around seem have completely gone overnight as they all answer to a distant calling, the void made by their abscence is disturbing.
As the day passes you feel the weather to be particularly cold for the summer. The wind carries an ill-feeling that keeps distracting you all day long.
Could this be passing? You can't answer that question as a disturbing thought builds on the back of your head with each step you take...

You wake once more in what has now been nearly a week of cold silence. The lack of sound making for very long and boring days, only necessity wakes you now, the enthusiasm of enjoying life seemingly simmering with the greyness of the days.
This day however you hear something that your ears quite cannot place. A strange melody that lifts your spirits high and springs the long gone curiosity within you. You open a window and as the potent rays of the sun bathe your room in all its glory you notice a small winged friend perched on a nearby tree singing this now forgotten beautiful melody.
The song lingers around you soon to become part of the background music of life as your spirits lift in relief. Somehow, overnight all the birds have returned from their exile and the new energy they carry is almost tangible.
Today is going to be a good day...
