Leaving your mark ....
« on: August 18, 2005, 09:25:00 pm »
Reading the "Epic Requirement" post, I wonder what exactly constitutes "leaving a mark on the world"

You see, for one, I am a little quest-phobic. I don't think I have participated much in the world as far as the campaign with ANY of my characters, but I believe that Quin has touched the lives of quite a few characters.

Does general role-play and character interaction count as "leaving a mark" if it is done to a very large degree?

Sort of depends but "general roleplaying" probably would not count.
Leaving your mark in the world is by creating something significant in the world (temple, town, some large building for major reason, running a guild (not just being in a guild) that is active and pretty well known, being involved in significant quests (not necisarrily plot related)--but a good number).  Another one would be to be actively involved on the forums and in game with helping players and new comers--the more active and positive of an influence one is the easier it is to overlook other things that may automatically disqualify one from ever being epic.  That sort of thing.
Some things that may disqualify a character from ever being approved actually deals with the player him/herself.  Don't exploit, camp, do xp rounds overly much, hassle the team or players, not be a positive influence in the game/forums etc.  Those things will show me that you do not respect the world, the community, or the team and as such you (the player) will have all of your characters denied for Epic.
It is okay to run around with a select few friends but you really should be more involved in the world and try to RP and make your mark in some way. It is not okay to run around with a group of friends that are known for exploiting/griefing/xp hunting only/camping over and over etc. (even if you are not one of those that are known for that)--sort of a guilty by association type thing.
Epic is just that--epic--it means something--not just you gained enough xp to become epic.

Well, general role-play to me is helping everyone I can and trying to help everyon have a good time.

I am asking really, if we have made an impact on the people, characters and players, does that count toward impacting the world?

Oh, and plot-quest or not, I am STILL just a little quest-phobic. I probably won't make it to level 20 anytime soon as any of my characters, but I still want to know, just incase.

Thanks for the answer though.

Yes it does count.  It can not count for 100% of everything but it most certainly helps the case in a big way--so long as the impact is on a positive level and involves quite a few players (not just characters).
