National Day of Mourning for Rael
« on: April 01, 2011, 10:30:34 am »
As news arrives in Rael of the hollow victory in Sederra Lord Rael the Benevolant has declared a national day of morning in his realm to remember the lives lost of the people of Rael.

In Succession a similar day is agreed to be held. IN Sederra the Sandy Sea Synod leaders still alive, mainly in Sloven adhere to the day also, heaping praise upon the dedication and sacrifice made by the Rael men and women in helping to save Sederra from Cult domination.

"Fortunately the people of Prantz were way ahead of him, having been in mourning since day one of Lord Rael's rule." mutters the one-eyed dwarf as he hears the news from the town crier.  Finishing the rest of his drink in one swift slurp, he smashes the stein down to the bar and orders another.

With General T'sek's permission, Daniel grants the men under him three days leave after a small private ceremony commemorating the fallen and awarding those who served with distinction which not surprisingly is the bulk of his forces still alive. After a brief speech, Daniel moves through the ranks of his men, shaking hands and offering kind words to each. He ensures the paymaster has distributed each man's pay then he sternly reminds them all that the war is far from over and that they must report back to Fort Hope to begin the march to Lor and the new front. He packs his few things and makes for a guildhouse and portal for home the next day.
"Give a man a mask and he will show you his true face."

In the Cathedral of Rofirein in WesternGate the same day is marked by a day of mourning of the sacrifices given of Rofireinite lives in the line of Duty in Sederra.

It is also announced that Voice of Justice Siann O'Mally will be travelling to Rael with a contingent of Knights to meet with Lord Rael personally and offer her condolences to his people and thanks for his efforts in Sederra.

// yeah... *cough* it might have been nice if the Voice and the contingent of knights had been available for the battle, and not just the after-party.;)   //

* Kobal and the Runic Anvil warriors spend the day taking care of their wounded as well as their fallen.

On the next day their wagon train leaves Audiria carrying all dead Runic Anvil dwarves as well as the wounded dwarves not able to walk. The wagon train is guarded by 30 dwarves in good shape.

Kobal and the remainder of his warriors (approximately 500 beards) have exchanged their weapons and armor with work clothing and tools and begin the hard work of clearing out the rubble and rebuilding of the city. The dwarves start with the defences of the city - the outer walls and watch towers - in order to bring the city back in shape to fend for itself and resist raids from the desert giants in the area.

The dwarves begin the work as soon as the sun rises and toil the entire day until the sun has set. Kobal works alongside his warriors, but makes sure to oversee the work in its entirety and pass out instructions wherever necessary.

Kobal did not coordinate with the city leaders before starting the work - simply feeling that the work needed to be done. If they approach him he will apologize for not thinking of that beforehand. *

If you read the posts about the battles and look at the numbers lost you will realise that the Rofireinites suffered heavy losses helping in Sederra.

// Indeed they did. But that wasn't the point I was trying to convey.

To (attempt to) put this into a clearer context (and apologies for not doing so before), this is not an OOC criticism of whom should and should not have been on the battlefield. It is more of an IC non character-specific point of view.

Alas, the people that hold this view are probably a) not aware why the Voice et al wasn't on that battlefield, and b) not across the motivations (and/or machinations ;)) of the Voice to take this opportunity to press the flesh with Rael.

But in that vacuum, people tend to speculate wildly and come to the darker conclusions, rightly or wrongly! :) //

Gel'larian sits on a roof-top in the shade of a chimney, scribbling a message as he sees a congregation of Raelites joining together in collective grief.  His eyes avert, almost out of a reflexive hatred and he scans the rest of the city.  Similar groups dot the panorama, amongst the columns of smouldering smoke, and join with the stench of dead and dying to create a forceful reminder of the wars toll.

Tentatively he forces himself to look back to the Raelites, and fingering the golden band around his finger, he pushes his judgement and fear to the side.  He realizes this hurts the Deep Dwarves, as it does the Humans, the Elves, the Shield Dwarves and Halflings alike.  Watching one soldier who cannot keep the veneer of stoicism strong as Sulterio might wish, Gel'larians heart goes out to him and wonders if it was a friend, lover or family member who was lost.  He pictures the distraught face laughing in comraderie, nodding in understanding, rejoicing in child birth.

"Are we so much different?" The question slips out as much to his mind as the air.  Perhaps even a drach feels the same loss that he sees in a thousand different ways before him.  Perhaps Molvaren himself shed a tear as his generals reported the savage battle to the last man.

His face twists up a moment as he spots a clean-up duty recover dismembered corpses.  He sees a Sederran grunt recognize a lost unit-member and cry out in anguish, and remembers that Audira never asked to have this happen, this time it was Kuhls fault.  He swallows down the maelstrom of confusion that only the heart can conjur and resolves that he will answer these questions in carvings and music, once the job is done, once the war is over.

He unstraps his guitar and goes over a song he and Andrew wrote on the way to Audira from the Oasis, the missing verse coming to him out of the chaos.

Even before the mourning had begun, Steel disappeared. Like the Runic dwarves, he sensed other work to be done.

// Why would the Voice be on the battlefield in the first place? Two of the Voices dont like Rael, the third Siann O'Mally is a women in her sixties?

The entire comment and its context even with your attempted justification dont gel.

If its IC say it IC. Perhaps it was how it was presented, it appeared to be an ooc jibe and one I didn't feel was justified. If it was in fact mean't to be IC I don't have any problem with it.  I guess once again it shows just how careful one has to be when posting such comments. :)

// Yeah, sorry, my bad, and laxness in not establishing the ICish context. :(  //
