A performance by Karn L'Yari
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:50:11 pm »
*Karn saunters through the doors of the Silver Buckle, and after exchanging a few words with the member of staff currently posted there, makes his way to the stage. He begins with a rolling prelude introducing his song.*

Thank ye' lads an' lasses. I ask of ye just a few moments of yer time. Lend me yer' ears, if ye' will.

Im goin' t'share with ye a tale of love an' loss an' sometimes, love again.

Now I know what yer' thinkin'..."that 'andsome devil 'aint old enough t'know 'bout such things" but, don't let my lack o'wrinkles put ye off.

So 'ere it is. The Elements of Love, an' it goes a little somethin'....like this...

*He starts with a gentle opening chord on a guitar, playing through the set in a soulful, acoustic style*

The Elements of Love ~ Karn L'Yari

Have you ever felt the flame of love burning? /
So much that even when it leaves you, all you feel is yearning? /
A spark, a flicker, a smoulder, then a blaze. Now you can only hope it stays.

The elements of love, bringing us together / Whether lad or lass – the dream lasts forever.

What about the waves, the cold snap of pain? /
Love, sometimes a cruel promise, with unrewarded gain. /
Survive or die? Survive or die? – Either way you just have to try.

The elements of love, bringing us together / Whether lad or lass – the dream lasts forever.

So you made it this far? You’re solid, and grounded? /
Your heart - taken, your life – shared, your soul - rounded. /
Perfect in a warm embrace. Solid, comforting, the familiar face.

The elements of love, bringing us together / Whether lad or lass – the dream lasts forever.

But what’s that? A wind of change twists and turns. /
The purest of minds can shift like the wind and the contented heart never learns. /
A glint, a smile, a spark – it’s back!

An ember cast out on the wind, rekindles a fire, abhorring the lack.

And so it continues ever onwards.

The elements of love, bringing us together / Whether lad or lass – the dream lasts forever.

*He tips his hat at the end of the final lines*

Thank ye', anyone that liked it - feel free t'buy a lad a wine eh?

*He chuckles as he leaves the stage*

The current guests and visitors to the tavern applaud Karn with hoots and whistles, and Billy the piano player at the bar saunters over to take up the stage.

"Don't run yet, my friend!  Let's give them a little more!"  A rich accent drawing out certain vowels marks him as originally from Morholt.  He sits at the massive ironwood piano and works up some intro chords.  "What else do you have?"

Barflys shuffle to take up chairs in front of the stage and one weathered man is clearly heard above the anticipatory murmurings.  "Bout bloody time they had some good entertainment, with that tall fellow too busy to play his own inn."  With a snort, he turns to the stage and thumps his mug.  "Play!"

As the bar begins to empty and the candles burn down low the door opens and a weather beaten dwarf with a ragged brown cloak pulled up his hat wanders in and drops his entire world in a bag near the bar. With something of a flourish he decloaks to reveal bright purple trousers over nearly shiny boots and a purple velvet doublet under purple coat.

he wanders onto the stage and playing an eerie melody by plucking the strings of his violin he sings a lovesong to the sleepy drinkers.

" hers a fine tale of Trouble fer yers"

The sun came up, the dawn of day,
Iellwen rose to make her way,
From hearth and home to place afar,
A journey long and tortuous.

Her quest to reach that place of calm,
To lie within her lover's arm,
And hear his heartbeat slow and slow,
tranquillity achieved.

The road was long, the weather foul,
She wrapped in azure cloak and cowl,
Whilst rain clouds chased her all the way,
From break of dawn to close of day,
Down to that tempestuous sea.

The Captain of the ship he waited,
Turgid stance and breath abated,
He called to her to make great haste,
No time to lose or wind to waste.
She leapt across from land to sea,
Her fate now all but sealed.

They made their way past harbour wall,
Out to stormy sea, the squall,
the wind and waves both gaining stature,
Iellwen's eyes in all but rapture,
The Tempest now approaching.

The Captain's strategy appeared,
to race the wind and waves he feared,
he threw up all the sail he had,
the old , the new, the good , the bad,
in hope of his escape.

Iellwen watched the weather chase,
the Tempest on their heels kept pace,
the cyclone formed and it bore down.
The sailors fearing they would drown,
grabbed anything they thought would float,
and left the now storm damaged boat,
and Iellwen to her fate.

The ship now held in Tempest's grip,
Iellwen cried and bit her lip,
It's form, it's power spun her round,
No sight of land, or earth, or ground,
She lay upon the spinning deck,
The tempest slowed, caressed her neck,
Her heart, her head, her very soul,
Almost her very being it stole,
Then gently laid her on a beach,
And drifted far from sight.

Iellwen staggered to her feet,
Her body heaving, warm, replete.
She cried out to the gods above,
Aching with joy, with hope, with love,
And now she waits without thought or care,
For Tempest to return to her.

And fer' a change of pace!

*Karn returns to the stage, somewhat more energised for the growing enthusiasm of the crowd*

There once was a ship called the Euryalus, ye see. Join in when ye pick up the words!

*He grins as he takes out a tambourine - this one has a simple crowd pleasing beat, almost tribal in nature with Karn encouraging the crowd to join in with the chanting chorus*

The Euryalus ~ Karn L'Yari

Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare!

The sweet maiden of the seas, a life on the Euryalus it’was for me! /
With mates at hand, life was grand / Oh if you only could but see! /

By day we would swab the decks / But at night it was grog down the necks /
A captain who knew how t’steer the rudder / A crew better than any mother
T’was a ship of elves, humans and even a gnome! / No finer place could any lad call home /

Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare! /
Oh... Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare! /

A place of gambling, a place of cheer, a place where Xeen’s bounty was ever near /
But alas, it is said that all good things must end /
And it was then a storm that damaged what no carpenter could mend /

Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare! /
Oh... Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare! /

And so here is my story, a tale to be told / of the Euryalus who once rode the seas so bold /
But now lies at the bottom of the tides / Where it’s memory, and some say , crew still resides /
For the fun that was had lives on for all time / And it could never be contained in this catchy rhyme!

Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare!
Always... Swab, sweat, swear! Drink, dance, dare!

*Karn beams a grin as he finishes the final round of the chant*

Been a while since I did that 'un!

Between Karn's flamboyant performance and Rocky's late-night violin, the Buckle attracts more and more people interested in good music; finally, the tavern named for the bard's favorite drink begins to live up to its potential.  Folks ask when the pretty elf boy and the heartfelt dwarven singer are performing again...
