A Royal Letter Arrives...
« on: September 20, 2012, 06:22:38 pm »
* Early one morning, an armored courier delivers a letter sealed with fine crimson red wax, in which is neatly pressed a Royal Seal of Driran.  It is simply marked in exquisite calligraphy with the phrase 'For only the eyes of Tyr'riel William Reid-Dragonheart' *

Elly carefully approaches during one of her rounds around the Inn, accepting the letter, "I'll be happy to make sure that he gets this letter, if you are able to leave it in my hands. My name is Elohanna, wife to his father." She waits for the guard to agree or not.

"I am sorry, but that will not be permissible madam", he says quickly.  "This letter is only to be given to the man addressed on the outside.  I am sure you understand."

"I understand Sir, but you will be waiting for quite some time for him to arrive to deliver it properly. But you are welcome to stay in guest quarters while you wait.  I will send word to him as quickly as I can. I can not tell you where he may be just now though. If you are able to wait?"

"This is my only task, so I shall wait until death if need be.  However, I implore you, the prompt delivery of this letter is of much importance to the Queen."

She nods to him and offers, "Tell Michael at the bar you are staying for while and I sent you to get dinner. There is no charge. I will see to the letter now." She offers with a reassuring smile and turns to go towards her office to write the letter she sends to Ty.

A bird message arrives for Elohanna not too many days later in a cramped and familiar handwriting.

Some time later upon reciept of the letter, Elly finds the messager again, wherever he may be at the Buckle or waits for him to return if he has gone out, and lets him know that Tyr'riel has received the letter and is on his way to the Buckle from Bydell.

"Please let me know when he arrives so I may complete this task."  *nods and goes back to sipping a tall glass of water by the fire*

It's a week and a half to Mariner's.  The caravan from Bydell is attacked not too far outside the walls and although the bandits are fought off the driver decides to stop at Crimson which turns out to be good because he finds a job that lets him ride a horse, no pay, just the use of the horse in exchange for a delivery to Sagewald Fort.

So, yeah, he doesn't really know how to ride.  After a few days, he's figured it out though, and can't sit really well, and maybe won't be able to have children someday or it feels like it anyway, but he gets to the Fort, makes the delivery, and doesn't end up killing the horse before he can turn it in.  Which he wanted to because it kept biting at him and stepped on his foot twice, and bloated up every time he put the saddle on so it was loose and he was always sliding to one side or another.  Friggin' thing.  Now he knows why the courier stable let him take it and were smiling when he did.

He has to catch another caravan from the village outside the fort and he's a spotter off the back of the wagon but it's good to stand.  This driver presses his horses, they seem to be able to handle it, and they can see the walls of the Hold inside of three days.  He leaps off after they pass through the gates and hits the paving stones running...trying to run...jogging, still sore as heck, to the Silver Buckle.  Man, some Elly TLC would be good right now.  Some food...a decent bed for one night...but first, that letter.  He feels electric.  Good, or bad?  Both?  He's tingling.

"Hey Ed.  Is Elly here?  Anything in the kitchen?  Is the Driran guy still here?"

*The courier approaches Ty and after properly identifying him using a short checklist of features, places the scroll in his hands*

"This is hereby delivered to you on order of Regina Starphire of the Driran Kingdom."

*With that, he gives thanks to Elohanna for the hospitality displayed, and then stands there, waiting for the reply*

* The letter is sealed with a very intricate seal which would be extremely difficult to duplicate due to it's very fine lines and design.  Once Ty cracks the seal and opens the letter, this is what he finds within... *

Tyr'riel WIlliam Reid-Dragonheart,

In honor of your loyal and dedicated service to the crown, you are hereby invited to visit
Driran Castle and are granted an audience with The Benevolent, Regina Elena Starphire.

The Regina wishes you to stay as her personal guest for up to one week prior to the Royal
Ball.  It is requested that you bring a guest of proper social class.  If one is not available, an
escort shall be assigned at the pleasure of the Court.

You shall place your mark below if you accept the invitation and return this letter to the
courier.

On Behalf of Regina Starphire,
Steffani D'Arvein
Lady Chamberlain, Castle Driran

Slowly approaches leaving him plenty of time to ready the letter without hovering or intruding. "Is everything alright Ty?"

'Huh?  Yeah, hey Elly.  Good.  All good.  Just um, fine..."  He looks back at the letter.  "...guest of proper social class...escort will be assigned..."

Where is he going to find a date?  No, seriously, no one has even looked at him sideways except Fleur till she dumped him and then that chick in Haven.  Who'll go with him?  Great pickup line though.  "Hey baby, want to go meet a queen?  Yeah, that's how I roll."

Right.

Guy is standing there, he's waited over a week.  Well pits with it, he's going, that's for sure, so don't need to keep the guy hanging around.  He fishes out his seal, newly purchased as of two weeks ago, black wax with a blue ring mold in the center.  The Clay Man.  He signs and stamps for good measure.  Heating the wax up leads to a long, polite silence.

Who's going to go with him?  Social standing -

Jil.  He'll ask Jil.  She's got the standing and she's gorgeous and an elf.  Perfect.  ...except she's in Hilm, bloody hells, so he can't.  Okay, little fib here.
"Uh, the woman I'd prefer to ask is on Belinara so, an escort...would be good.  When should I show up?"

And as soon as he says it.  He's in the Buckle.  Why here?  If they have the means they should know he lives in the Twin Dragons.  But nobody he cares about lives there.  Everyone he cares about lives here.  Right.

It's too good to be true and Jetta's words come back to him fast.

"Yeah, one more question, maybe you know."  He looks hard at the man.  It could be her.  Even his mother didn't know what she looked like..."Masque you'll meet before you ever know who she is."  He scours the messenger's face for hints of femininity.  "Why."  He snaps the letter  "'Cause I didn't actually do anything...kinda had it done to me.  So if they're trying to make things right, sure, I'll come, but it's gonna have to be a pretty big righting."  He sets his jaw, but not too hard, lowers his brows just a little, and relaxes his neck - no facial tics.  No reaction.  Sell the anger.

"Find their hook, use it as leverage."  Thank you, Jetta.  That is worth a favor, yeah.  He is too curious.  It's a weakness.  And he trusts too much, and he came running.  He might as well have screamed I DID IT the whole way.  Fine.  Sell this - I didn't do anything, I was robbed and killed.

And if it is real?  Oh, man.  He's gotta remember 'escort' doesn't mean the same thing in Driran as it does in Vehl...

"The why is never my concern.  I shall deliver this letter back to the sender and I can assure you castle Driran will await your arrival."  *the courier takes the letter, tucks it back into his messenger bag and heads out*
