A bard in need is a bard indeed!
« on: February 17, 2006, 10:04:35 am »
Friends!

Freldo here again and I'd like some advice.  I'd ask this in the market but I'm not sure what I ask is something that can be done.

As you can tell by my thin arms, I'm about as strong as the half-orcs are smart, so I have taken up the rapier, the infamous oversized metallic toothpick and a disgrace for any worthy dwarf, as my melee weapon.

I have noticed it's very useful for plunging deep holes in my adversaries and I'd like to know if it's possible to allow this weapon to become even keener and also if I, a relatively unexperienced bard, may still be able to wield it.

I ask this because I have noticed that weapons and armor of greater power require a veteran's hand to wield it into battle as it should be.  Also, before I start my next month-long quest to procure gold to aquire such a weapon, I'd like to know if I have a hand steady enough for such a keen weapon.

I might be at the Leilon Arms tonight, if I don't get eaten by a half-crazed gryphon or griffon on my way there.  So if you wish to talk to me there, I'll be most happy to chat.

Before I start saving up for it, is a keen rapier possible and is it useable by a sixth level bard?

While it is possible by game mechanics stance you are not going to find a keen weapon on Layonara.

Thank you lady Brisbane,

You just saved me a whole month of trouble.

//No keen weapons... Which makes me very, very sad. You'd have to take Weapon Focus, at least (not sure if Weapon spec. is a requirement on this), to get Improved Critical, I believe, so having a MONSTROUS threat range for your rapier is still a ways off.//

Pyyran chuckles, shaking his head, and reaches down to pat the case at his side, the net around which is only loosely tied for easy carry. "Well, Freldo, the closest I can think for your dilemma is to grab yourself an iron weapon, the gold for which I can easily loan you once this pile of essence is sold."

//// however, you will find better rapiers to buy than the copper one I'm assuming you have.  ask around at the Arms about what better weapons you can get

//Improved Critical does not require Weapon Focus to be taken first.

//Slick. You know my first feat as a Duelist. I managed a 17-20 crit with a greatsword in single player, and the damage that put out... Och. Indredible.//

*A note is posted on the board, with Freldo's name in large print across the top.*

If you still need a new sword, Freldo, seek me out; I'm sure we can work something out that'll make you two thousand coin richer.
