Her time has come
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:36:42 am »
*A note posted in bold letters*

I for one am tired of this so called soul "mother" preying on us. It is time to take the fight to her and put her out of business. She lurks out there waiting for us to fall and strips us of our very being. What does she give in return? What does she do for us? Any who agree find me and lets talk about how this can be done.

The unpopular reply lies crumpled and forgotten to one side.

[strike]A neat reply in ink that glints in the light.

Preying on us? As well hate death for eventually coming to you after cheating it for decades. If you despise the tether being snapped over time, then unbind your soul and fall. Do not make the deal if you cannot pay the price.

She is more than we can imagine.[/strike]

Hmph....  I hope the author is not an elf...  Such foolishness does not suit our blood...

*A firmly affixed piece of parchment is tacked under this note*
"Ah, but all the world is a stage, and we merely players - nay, characters!  As important are the entrances, so too the exits; that we few retain our places upon the stage despite the machinations of others attempting to violently remove us is no evil on our part, but every entrance needs must beget an exit, eventual or not.

"We all shall live, and die; 'tis but the drawing of the days out that tells of our natures.  By all means, cheat death as long as you will, but time will out, and we all needs must go gentle into that good night.  Blame not the reaper for inattentiveness to every individual grain of the harvest.

"Put in plain speech, this and this clearly: it is no evil that we do live as we do, nor too that our lives shall end.  We are not being preyed upon, merely finding unnatural ends to unusual lives.  Rage all you will against the dying of the light, but the day will end, and then the end be known.

"Instead of seeking to end some imagined persecution, this writer might suggest that one ensure that one's life is in order, and live each day as if it might be one's last; if it is not, one shall live well - if it is, one shall have no regrets."

As much as I'd like to re-tie a few of the lines holding my soul to this wonderful life, I don't think the gain outweighs the risk - the Mother may not be a goddess, but she is something more powerful than perhaps we truly comprehend. She's eaten those more powerful than we, and though, perhaps, Athus was able to defeat her, I doubt that defeat was not partly due to her own failings...

As we learn from defeat, so do beings greater than us.

I do not think she will be brought down again.

She has been defeated before... Athus, and he was not a warrior in the violent sense.  I suspect that he uncovered some means of challenging her dominion peacefully.  Seek Athus and perhaps you'll be one step closer to her demise.

Though, do not destroy her completely... else we'll be up to our eyeballs in unkillable orcs and goblins who breed faster then we.  I project that without death, greenskin dominion would be achieved in less than three generations.

Your best bet is to challenge her for the single soul of a loved one or make a trade of souls than to try and face her in combat.  With the accumulated souls that she has gathered, she will be stronger than any god, and once slain, those souls might break free to plague the lands.  Think long and hard on what you ultimately wish to accomplish... there are easier paths to immortality than this.

*A cloaked figure strolls by the message board, when the string of notices catches his eye.  He quickly reads what has been written, chuckling quietly as he reads over Timulty's letter, nodding slowly as he scans Pyrran's contribution.  Finally, he pulls a scrap of parchment and a quill from a pouch at his belt, and scrawls a quick note, which he pins to the board carefully beneath those already there...*

You would do well, Wren, to heed the advice given here, rather than raging against one who has held dominion over that which lies beyond for longer than any brief mortal can conceive.

As for my own gem; your ire would be better directed at those who seek to send you to a premature meeting with the Mother than at Her.  More productive, I'd think.

Some are better off dead...the rest, I take pleasure in knowing it is only a matter of time.

I think Wren is no fool. From the seed of such ambitious ideas do mighty deeds grow.

I would seek tales and truth of the doings of this Athus, those who know something of his travels and accomplishments can earn coin or favours from me if they care to share this knowledge.

Then seek out Acacea, for she'll know as much of the tale as perhaps any but Athus himself. And she might give you pie. ~P

*wren reads the notes he writes* Yes good advice indeed. I will seek information on Athus and how and what he achieved.
