    About Ears for Language...
    « on: January 02, 2008, 02:22:36 pm »
I probably should have figured this out by now, but I'm still not sure what the Ears for Language are for and how they are used.

As a Druid, I have the Ear for Animal Language. What do I do with it though?

Are these solely for RP? When I used it, I didn't see anything to indicate I was speaking or hearing any different. Does it show up differently for others?

    Just a bit confused...

    Thanks,

    -D

use the ear, then type like this...

/dm [what you want to say]

then it will come out in animal language.

and... then it will look and sound different to others, and only those with an ear for animal language will be able to understand.  Oh and the "interpretation" shows up in the right hand box, not the regular dialoge box. The sounds that others hear will be in the usual left hand box.

"/o l Blah" also works, and it doesn't spam the DM channel!

animal being the most basic of tongues looks like a series of dots on the

screen like morse code almost you have to see the right window to see the

translation when someone talks back to you

It should reappear on login.  If it doesn't that means it's in her inventory somewhere.

        Stephen,

I tried this last night but couldn't get it to work (doing it the /dm way worked though.)

Is it /o | [hello] or do I need to type it differently?

        Thanks!

/o L then you type what you say without brackets or parenthesis

it doesnt need to be a capital L though which is where the mistake was made i beleive

Oh, that's an L? I thought it was pipe | (the thing on the backslash key).

that would explain why it didn't work...

          :)

          Thanks,

The "/o L" option is great, as Stephen says it doesn't spam the DM channel - and such things are often appreciated !

Be aware though, that this can also be a disadvantage. If you're on a quest, using the "/dm [text here]" variant means that the GM can understand what you are saying no matter what creature he/she happens to be possessing at the time! This can be an advantage ;)

true during quests so the dm can understand you would use the /dm[

and most remind us at the beginning too since i for one can type /o l without thinking about to use the ears while i have to think to do the /dm [
