Crafting; Exceptional; Trivial

Question about making "Exceptional Items": If you are crafting (say tailoring and trying to make a belt of cunning), and your chance of success is "trivial", do you still have the possibility of making an "exceptional item"?  Or does the trivial aspect make it so you don't roll and therefore have no shot of hitting a natural 20?

Thanks,

I think that having it trivial nets you the best chance of getting that done.

But As with every exceptional item , yiou must hit 20 first.

So when hitting 20 on the crafting roll, you pass to the exceptional threat chance , which needs you to roll to succesfully made the item. But as you get them done trivialy. that success is guaranteed.

So making it trivial will net you a 5 % of getting an exceptional item of the kind per try.

As far as i understand it.

Yes, even if the item is trivial for you to make, there is still the possibility of an exceptional.

Lance and Lord Dark are both correct. Even though the item is trivial, the dice is still rolled.

The way it works is this:

As has been said, there's a die roll regardless of whether a recipe is trivial.

Exceptional results are only possible when one rolls a 20 during the crafting attempt, at which point another d20 is rolled.  In order to get an exceptional result (for those results that support them), the 2nd d20 must roll at or above whatever roll was required to successfully craft.

So if you need a 20 to craft something successfully, you need to roll another 20 to get an exceptional.

If you need a 11 or better to craft something successfully, you need to first roll a 20 on the crafting attempt and then something 11 or greater on the 2nd die roll to get an exceptional.

When attempting a trivial recipe, it doesn't matter what you roll to get a successful crafting attempt, but if you happen to roll a 20, then an exceptional is pretty much a given.

Ok, thanks again Dorganath for helping and explaining it so well.
