Homemade yeast

I know it's cheap to buy but I was wondering...

Why not make your own yeast?

As an amateur cook, I've gone so far as to make a batch for good sour dough bread - warm water, flour and a touch of sugar and let it sit in a window sill until airborne fungus likes the mixture and a colony starts.  In a few hours (according to some) or days (in my case), homemake yeast with added mixture of miscellaneous fungi that give a sourdough it's rich taste.

Saying that, it might be an intresting CNR recipe for the press (because the ingame item is a pressed tablet, not a cup):

1 Wheat flour
1 Sugar
1 Bucket of water

Yields 5 baker's yeast.  (Just a guess on the number but it has to make the risk worth it)

The odds would stay, if it's possible, at 50% for all skill levels - it depends on mother nature, not on your ability to mix flour, sugar and water.  There wouldn't be any crafting XP for it for the same reason but maybe a small XP bonus for getting lucky.

I've never used nor made real brewer's yeast but, just to be fair with the brewers:

1 Rye flour (or other brewer's grain, maybe barley)
1 Sugar
1 Bucket of water

Same baker's yeast rules would apply.

The rewards would have to match or defeat the inherent risk of messing up - 50 gold for 5 tablets of baker's yeast or nothing for a 50% of 5 tablets?

I don't know, just a suggestion.

i'm no expert on the way the crafting system works, but i don't believe there is anyway to make something sit at a constant percentage, though i am fairly certain you could make it so they didn't weild xp (i believe it involves fudging the give xp script on it though and not sure if that would disable it for just the yeast or for all cooking as was the case when Layo first went to CNR (cooking was there, though not in it's current form, and for a little while you could not level up in cooking due to a scripting bug which gave you the adventuring XP but not the crafting xp)

This is a REALLY good idea, but as a base component, yeast should be easier to make than the finished beer product.  I'd say around 100% trivial on yeast while some of the easier ale recipes reach 60-70%.  Maybe 50% by lvl 3-4.  It looks like a good beginner's recipe for training that would actually have a decent market since Leillon Arms and Freelancers both produce specialty brews CONSTANTLY.  The baker's variant would be cool too, is the production of baker's yeast any different?  It should be about equally difficult to make as the brewer's variety, maybe a little moreso given that baking recipes are usually harder to do than beers.

The problem with CNR is that once you hit a certain level you never fail.

Another Part of this and I have seen the benifits is to make some items non craftable.  Thus when you go to make the item you need to spend gold on the item.  This removes some money from the economy and helps to get it out of the system.

When we discuss the CNR for NWN2 I will suggest more items that cost gold so that it removes money from the economy.

    Makes sense...

Gold sinks are important in a high yield game.

    Thanks for your time Forsettii
