Summary:
About one year after the events of Dragon Storm: By Tooth or By Claw, Amgine returns home to Faroth with his fiance, Amireana Mandrine, with hopes of introducing her to his parents and other family members and attaining their approval for the marriage.
Upon ariving in Faroth, Amgine and those with him were greeted by a grave tale that a large wolf or wolves had been attacking folks in or near the town, causing everyone to retreat indoors for protection after sundown.
Sometime later, while Amgine and company are visiting with his mother, father, and sister (Gwen), Amgine's uncle bursts in carrying Gwen's boyfriend Jimmy Ashenhue, who is severely wounded and bleeding profusely. While an attempt is made to heal the wounds and stop the bleeding, it's discovered that the wounds are somehow supernatural in nature, and won't heal.
Amgine sets out with his friends to track down Louie "One-Eye" Parsimon, who his uncle convinces him must be behind the attacks, and may have the cure for Jimmy's magical ailment.
Finding the bandit's camp, attempts are made to infiltrate it, and then errupt into a melee, most of the party dies horribly. Those alive after raise the rest and the group tries again. Eventually it's decided that there must be someone else involved, and Amgine and friends are lead to pay a new neighbor a visit, leaving Parsimon's camp for another day.
Confronting the new neighbor in his dungeon-like home, it's discovered that he's quite clearly an evil necromancer, again fighting erupts and the necromancer is slain, as is Amgine once more. His friends revive him and bring him back home, to discover that the necromancers magic was disrupted with his death, and Jimmy has begun to recover.
