Multiclassing

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question, so here goes.

I know that Druids, monks, and paladins cannot multi class.  I have seen characters that have gone to one of those classes from another.  Is starting out as a fighter ok and then shifting to Paladin or one of the classes normally not allowed to multi?

Thanks.

I didn't have that rule in place until about a month ago (at least to a few of them).  I do not want to punish the players that have been playing but it applies to all new characters (regardless of player).
You can not be a multi-class (at all, in any direction) for those classes if it is new character.

Not even if given a solid reason to do so? Like a big development thing.

I believe it is to express the amount of determination the character has to put into it to become said class. A Monk, Druid, and Paladin takes a lot of preparation and rituals to become what they are. You cannot simply be a warrior one day, and jump and become the holy justice of Toran the next. It is a bond that takes years to form.

alot of people are thinking Wolv in their head when they read this discussion.  just a reminder wolv was an aspiring paladin sinse 1st level and never deviated from the path of a paladin.  although all his beginning levels he was a fighter, he was playing a paladin.

actually wolv was a LN fallen paladin at level 1.. he cursed Torans name in public but in his heart still worshipped him... wolv did not set back to the aspiring paladin path untill around 10th or 12th level.. but then spent several levels and many quests returning to the path of paladinship.. including a series of quests to prove to Toran he would be faithful and several quests to change his alignment back to LG..

as brace said wolv never did anything during his time away from the paladinship that would be against the paladin code..

I can't say that i agree with the no multiclassing paladin thing.. I can agree that you shouldnt be a Multiclassed paladin (meaning you alternate levels)..  but with layonara PrCs like champion of Toran that actually RECOMMEND that an initiate start as a fighter and become a paladin.. And my personal experience with trying to become a paladin.. i think its a pretty neat experience to go through and I feel bad that very few others will ever get that chance..

but i also feel it isnt something that should be planned out in a character submission .. i think it should be something that develops and is role played.. *shrugs*

guess it really needs to be delt with on a case by case basis.. but its not my call =)

I would agree with Wolv there.  There is a difference between switching back and forth and changing classes forever.  P&P makes that distinction.  So too should we.  People change.  Just because you've decided to stop being a paladin doesn't make you stand still in time.  I can see not going Fighter/Paladin/Fighter/Paladin, whatever.  It means you can never have your alignment adjusted.  Which means you're forever locked in how your first made your character.  Makes development across different plains very difficult, and turns you semi-twodimensional.  You can't grow in many directions if you're trapped in LG for example.
      Anyway...
