Devil Alignment

Osyluth.. the thing who's description says it wants to kill you, take your soul and hates you, appears to still fear you even if you've got alignment against evil up. This was from a stardust though, dunno if they're glitched. But anyway, that would imply its neutrally aligned or even good aligned which I think is probably wrong.
But if its not, could we just confirm, are devils not evil mechanically or is it just these guys? the dust had worn off by the time I got onto killing Hamatula .

Those particular Osyluth are not Evil-aligned.

Also, Layonara doesn't have "devils" and "demons" as such in our collection of planar beings.  The concept exists in folklore and such, but the way the concept applies in the D&D sense is not valid here.

I know it's strange sometimes because of the overlaps and conflicts we have from a D&D/FR-centric game engine, so it's a good question.  However, it's not necessarily valid to make assumptions about the alignments of certain creatures due to D&D norms.

Very well however just as a nit-pick thing perhaps the description could use some changing on them.
Even if we can't 'tell' things from a description ICly, I believe if something is described as wanting to kill, take your soul and hating you, this would be very much reflected in a rather sinister nature visible to the character and almost palpable.
So hey, just a point of consideration :) thanks for the input on the alignment though Dorg, I'll have to remember the thing about demons/devils because I assumed Layonara had the two groups even if they didn't have the history of Faerun worlds.

Noted! :)

There was a time where our planar lore was a lot closer to D&D norms than it is today.  We even had a "Planes" server that had some of the standard D&D planes (Arborea, Pandemonium, etc.).  However, as we started to formalize things and diverge from D&D canon, the concepts of "demons" and "devils" no longer corresponded to a specific set of creatures. We have Pit Dwellers now, and rather than Devils and Demons being locked in an eternal "Bloodwar", there is instead a sort of multi-faceted competition between individual Pits and their masters.

Anyway, we have a lot of hold-overs in creature naming and descriptions and things. Some of them (stock Bioware creatures like Drow) we can't do anything about. Osyluth are among our 2000+ custom creatures and it has generally been a low priority to review all of them and adjust them for such inconsistencies.  We generally deal with such things on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks for bringing it up.

Just to tack on to what Dorg explained, feel free to call any sort of abnormal and seemingly bloodthirsty creature a 'devil' or 'demon'. The connotation ascribed to the nomenclature still exists, it's just that we don't have a specific set of outsiders (planar creatures) termed as demons or devils. Often times, creatures from the Pits of Endless Strife do in fact fit the description of demons and devils, but not all of them, by any means.
