Prestige Class Duelist
« on: November 07, 2005, 10:15:00 am »
i dont know if the duelist is bugged or it there is a mistake in the text for it, i just had my first lvl as a duelist and i had planned on using to weapons but surprise i lose my canny defence when i equip a off hand weapon, i know that duelist in the PnP game cant use a off hand weapon, but if you look under http://www.layonaraonline.com/player_info/prestige_classes.asp it doesnt say anything about it, so i kinda figured that it was changed since it dont follow the PnP duelist anyway.

it doesnt work with an offhand weapon, there is a balance in there since piercing strike works against all opponents, including those immune to sneaks.  It was intended this way to make sure the class balanced out correctly.

and i agree that it should not, all i really wanted was to say that it doesnt say anywhere that you cant use two weapons, and i would hate to see others then me waste a feat on the two-weapon fighting feat   :(

The Duelist

Note: Details may change based on the results of playtesting and game balancing.

Stats: Duelist
Hit Die: d10
Proficiencies: No additional proficiencies gained
Skill Points: 4 + Int Modifier

Requirements: To qualify as a duelist, a character must fulfil all of the following criteria:
Base Attack Bonus: +6
Feats: Dodge, Ambidexterity, Mobility, Weapon Focus (Rapier)
Skills: Tumble 5 ranks and Persuasion 5 ranks

Description:

In a world with heavily armoured warriors and powerful mages wielding mind-churning spells, there's no place for the daring swashbuckler who relies on his wits and reflexes to survive, right? Wrong. The duelist proves that precision and skill are viable alternatives to massive weapons and agility is a viable alternative to heavy armour.

The duelist is a nimble, intelligent fighter trained in making precise attacks with light weapons, such as the rapier. Also known as the swashbuckler, the duelist always takes full advantage of his quick reflexes and wits in a fight. Rather than wearing bulky armour, duelists feel the best way to protect themselves is to not get hit at all.

Duelists are most often fighters or rangers, but almost as often are rogues or bards. Wizards, sorcerers and monks make surprisingly good duelists due to the lack of the class's reliance on armour. They benefit greatly from the weapon skill the duelist offers. Paladins and barbarians who deviate a good deal from their archetypes become duelists. Elves are more likely to become duelists than dwarves, and halflings and gnome duelists are not uncommon. Half-orc duelists are very rare.

Abilities:

Canny Defence (Level 1) - Duelist adds intelligence bonus to AC while not wearing armour.

Precise Strike (Level 2) - Damage bonus of +d6 piercing while unarmored and wielding a rapier, +2d6 piercing at 6th.
the duelist gains the abilit to strike precisely with a light or one handed piecing weapon, when making a precise strike a duelist cannat attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield

Whirlwind Attack (Level 3) - as the feat.

Amazing Grace (Level 4) - Duelist gains a bonus to reflex saves while not wearing armour, increases by +2 every 4 levels of the Duelist.

Acrobatic Attack (Level 5) - Bonus to attack and damage by leaping at the enemy, attack and damage increase every 5 levels of the Duelist.

Elaborate Parry (Level 7) - Duelist gains a +1 bonus to his parry skill, per duelist level.
