Woodcutters axe breaking too easily?
« on: May 15, 2007, 04:07:46 pm »
Over the last 2 weeks or so I've managed to break at least 4 axes (may even be 5 or 6) attempting to cut hickory.  I know that there's always a chance of breaking them, but I don't spend a large amount of time gathering wood IG so I'm quite surprised by how delicate they seem to be when compared to some other tools used to gather CNR like the gem crafters chisel.

Put it down on a stroke of bad luck... or bad craftsmanship...

Somtimes an axe/pick/chisel/shovel will last through several hundreds of uses... and sometime they break on the first stroke.... luck or rather bad luck ;) .

I would say bad luck too.  One time I was cutting oak, and I went through four axes and got 1 piece of wood.  Other times I have cut wood on numerous trips with the same axe with no problems at all.  All I can say is that while it is frustrating, it does seem to even out over time.

*nods*  It's all probabilistic.  I've had an axe last a RL month... and I've broken three on a trip.  The more you use a random system, the more you tend to notice the outliers.
