*wanders off*
« on: June 15, 2005, 09:33:00 am »
I have decided to leave Layonara for quite some time, possibly permanently. This was the first server I played on and I have learned alot about the game itself as well as learning all of the social aspects of a PW. My time here has generally been a positive one and I will miss many interactions with a long list of characters. I had some great experiences here, many of them downright hilarious, and I apologize to anyone who may miss Fian and Drawna; however I am confident with the new influx of characters these two will not be missed.

That being said, I would also like to express a caveat to those who build this community whether they be player or Dm/Administrator : Criticism is not a bad word. It really isn't. A thought expressed which is tangential to the existing state of things is a great thing. My reasons for leaving will not be listed here as I have seen what happens to a person who says such things in this context. Suffice it to say however, I think it would do many well to visit other servers and see how things are done. There is always room for improvement, especially improvement you are not open to. Perhaps this is the most valuable change to be made.

As I said I have learned a lot about this game engine and the PW community here. But I feel that learning is coming to an end in this place. My frustration level and discouragement is high here anymore. I am beginning to learn more on other servers, particularly on the server Amia (amiaworld.net) and a newer server called Silver Spire (silver-spire.com) I can be found on these two under a different screen name. (Hey if you like -try and guess who I am!--or just ask.)

There are a thousand things I could say here both for and against Layonara. I think really I will just say goodbye and good luck.

P.S. To anyone with whom Fian or Drawna have unresolved business negotiations, I will continue to look for you and finish anything I need to. Thanks.

Fian,
Its always sad to see a player go, but of course some good things don't last forever.  I hope you are able to find what you are looking for in a PW and able to enjoy it.  I know recently I haven't seen you nearly as much but I won't forget the days you ran around with Lalaith and Talan.  I always enjoyed your rp and it will be missed.  Best of luck to you in the gaming world and in RL.
  Lalaith Va'lash.
p.s. and for the record... Fian was the only one Lalaith thought could pull off wearing a kilt. *smiles* Have fun out there, we will miss ya.

So long Fian, your RP and characters will be missed.  Still loved the RP with that Bebelith that day, heh.

I welcome anyone to try out the other worlds he suggested, find your home.  Layonara is not for every one, there is room for improvement, there are a lot of areas we may not do to everyone's liking.  Some we just can't manage, some we don't have the manpower for, some we do for reasons hardly anyone would be aware of, but we certainly are not a perfect fit for everyone.

We'd much prefer you happy at another place then unsatisfied here.  We do this to make people happy and have fun, that's about it.  There's no money, no glory, no feelings of power.  It's just a great satisfaction to make people have fun and enjoy themselves.

Take care.

I'll miss you...both of you.   But we all have to do what's right for us.  So best of luck in the new place(s).

And I second what Lalaith said about the kilts.  But I always thought Fian should have had a big ol' hammer slung over his shoulder instead of that greatsword.  :)

Even though you didn't mention the reasons for leaving in this thread I would suggest sending a PM to L or some other members of the team at least so the issues will be known.  That way the feedback can at least be digested.  I think that is the best way for negative feedback to be dealt with.  It would be a shame for your feedback to be lost.  Sorry to hear about your leaving.  I hope you find a place that meets all your desires.

It is sad to hear someone leaving, when I have just joined.

But. . . I have tried out many, many servers and PWs, and none come even close to impressing me as much as Layonara, and Vorkresh hasnt even left the vicinity of Hlint yet. The people here are very good RPers, and very friendly, and more than willing to find an excuse to make a party with someone. This is not something you often find elsewhere, I have found.

Perhaps in time you may return, though. I think I will stay here for quite some time.

Take it easy Fian, come back and visit, at least check the forum occasionaly.
Your leaving just as Berdin was beginning to like you well enough despite your deviant Xeenite ways. *grins*

      Being open to new things,
I was curious about the other servers that he spoke of so I am trying Amia.  It is impressive and does have some things I like that layo doesn't but it is not as friendly or quite as vast as Layo is.  L you have created a realistic feeling world that has good rules and a history that is interesting.  Amia has these things but they aren't nearly as interesting or epic.  I just gained two levels in Amia by just delivering messages and I was only playing about an hour.  I like that your world, L, is harder to gain levels.  Now I appreciate my 6 levels at Layo a lot more than I used to.  I do suggest checking Amia out, it is kind of cool and it does have some things that Layo could benefit from (more NPC's, they give history and rumors all having to do with the story.  It makes the city seem more populated and real.  Like Port Hamp maybe could have more NPC's).  Although, even though I have only played Amia for a brief period, it doesn't seem to have more than one continent, which is a bummer.  Anyway, even with these differences I still think that Layo is a better fit, yet I am going to delve into Amia a little more.

Keep up the great work L and your team.  You have created a world with great character interaction, with great GM lead quests and an immersive world that puts the others to shame.

      -Romona

P.S. Maybe one of the team members here or L himself can take a look at Amia (it's very easy to join and log in) see if there is anything there that can make Layo better (even though I think it is great the way it is).  Just a thought. :)

I have also posted this as a new thread to leave it open to conversation. :)

GAH!  really going to miss you Fian.  Don't be a stranger around here on the forums, and if you ever get overly bored with real life, login sometime and keep me some company.

      Fian,

My heart feels like its crumpling.  I recall my first days on the server.  It was a regular crew at 9pm EST for the longest time.  Fian and Ollom pretty much held my hand to give me the tour of Mistone and Layonara in general.  I can not express how much it meant to me to have a warm environment to log into.  This too is my first server and it is people like you that get people to stay.  You are an excellent role player and I wish you nothing but all the happiness you can find.

      You will be missed greatly

All the best. As it has already been mentioned you need to find the place that works for you.  As the longest standing Player/GM (I retired). I have seen layonara change from what it was to what it is now. I have stuck through the changes and am ever happy with what we have here.  Some things I like more than others but taking the good with the bad is part of life. The one thing I love about layonara is that we have a dedicated team that are always here to make our experience better. They have been here for 2 years +.   Not many places can say that.

Perhaps in time you will make your way back. It happens and you will be welcome. Good luck and enjoy yourself.

Well what can I say Fian? For A time, my life as Brutus consisted of Fian, Farros, Faile, Longbow, Mordechai, Yash, and Seteece on countless trips to silentwatch. Somewhere amid the swirl of DT's, Battle, and RP there was a crystalized element of familiarity and joy that I can't express in its best sense. I personally have learned through experience that some far off ruler of this place, Leanther, turns out to be a person with a true conviction, practical concern, and even compassion...and while my opinion of changes and way's and means is forever clouded by the sides to the issues to which I am prithy, sometimes my first assumptions are not always the best explanations. While sometimes they are. That is the curse of these forums. They are a place where opinions are expressed. My deepest sympathy goes out to those who mistake those opinions as attacks. Often they seem to be, as defined by the manner in which they are expressed. We are many.  It's best to remind ourselves that they are merely opinions.  Yes, "Fien" (as Brutus would say) you will be sorely missed. Thoughts of you and your perspectives will replay themselves frequently as I struggle with my own perspectives and convictions.

Good luck to you Fian. I agree with you it is important to play other servers to see what suits your styles. I have played numerous, and have end up here happily. Of course, NWN2, and Dragon Age are on the horizon, so we may all be moving in that direction soon. Good luck and hope to see you soon. Cheers.
