Wizard Familiar Question
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:17:43 am »
I was wondering what the feeling is among those playing on the server who see a non-evil wizard who has a traditionally 'evil' familiar in toe. For my latest character (who is TN) I was hoping to choose the Imp as her familiar for its ties with illusions and magic, also I havent seen too many Imps wandering about as familiars. Is there any reason why she could not or should not choose the imp as her familiar? Other choices for illusion based familiars could be the faerie dragon I suppose. (The fairy just seems too powerful-rogue abilities and all!)

Hopefuly I can get some feedback here before I select the familiar.

Thanks All

My TN mage (enchantress) has a Hell Hound (LE) as a familiar. The reason is in her role play. The Houndis a protector. She didn't so much as choose him as he chose or was given the task of protecting her. Also fits as one of her devoted pets.
I'd say choose your familiar based on the character. You have the option of changing as you level.

I/we are not overly concerned about that (to a degree at least) so long as the familiar is not used to do the evilish type things. Just RP properly and I think we will be fine.  Thanks for bringing the question forth though, it shows you care about that sort of thing and the RP/Community as a whole.

Many thanks to Minerva and Leanthar. Right time to get Kali Syndani created! She will see you all in game soon!

Best way I find to think about  familiars, is to ask what would your PC need one for, company, protection, running chores.
In the books Only the raven can talk all others talk there own langwage, But on Laya all Fimilers talk.
It makes for better RP I feel. PCs can call up Undead and demons even when there LG NG CG so I think is all about Rping your alinment.
well that my take on your Q see you in game

Well I am CG and have a hell hound.  There reason was that I needed a protector and that what they do...  I wish sometimes that I could change him a bit, make him look a little more friendly, because thats how I play him.  I play him as a mutt, 1/2 hell hound and 1/2 normal dog.  Its just how you role play I guess, but some are really offended at him and call me demon summoner..HEE HEE

I think thats about it, as I role play him... a HECK HOUND!

Might just use that in game next time I'm called a demon summoner...

My beholderkin eyeball familiar The Nefarious Mr. Quimby is NE, and I do try to give him that sort of personality and goals.  He's very angst ridden for being born without hands, and goes out of his way to foil my poor little gnome's attempts to do good in the world by befouling his experiments.  He also was responsible for the crushing "accident" which befell Brilligimble's old familiar, Frubious Puffystuff the cute little goodsy fairy dragon.  The limitation I have set on Quimby though is the rule of Pinky & the Brain... that despite whatever great and devious plans are in action, they are all destined to collide with Murphy's Law and simply make the Nefarious Mr. Quimby even more moping and self-loathing.

He is also a VISCIOUS philosopher, and will debate Sindolin and Talan to the DEATH!  Unfortunately they have all fled before starving to death so far... ;)
