Organisations?
« on: September 30, 2006, 03:59:48 am »
Im just looking for a little back-ground info in regards to this.

I understand that slave trading is an illegal activity on Layo.....although obvious "evil" people do use and abuse slave labour. Is there some organisation, legit or not, which combats slave trading on layo?

These are dark times.  Layonara is a large world with diverse cultures.  To that ends there are cultures on Layo who hold views on slavery a bit differently and places where it is not only legal but the societal status quo.

Ah....I just had a thing in my mind for slave traders. My char has a hate for them, and I was just checking to see if any groups or organisations made attempts to free slaves from either places where it was already illegal, or from lands which it wasnt.
I doubt of course it would be possible to set up such a group, as it would require GM attention.....unless of course there are places already set up where slaves could be freed....but I havent seen any.
Oh well....thanks.

There is a place slaves can be freed... they aren't human though.  :)

While not entirely built around freeing slaves, the Freelancers is an organization devoted to freedom in all forms, and has, on more than one occasion, provided material means to support such activities.

Heh, Pyyran actually owns a slave, though the little gobboe's pretty much free, from how P treats him.

Not that the player's been on in four months. *Chuckles.*

I figure something ate him. (The goblin.)

In the time period we're (semi) emulating, slavery is commonplace and oftentimes acceptable.

Slavery itself is not equivalent to physical abuse and many times throughout history did not have the negative connotation it has today (at least in american culture.) There are documented instances in classical greek society where people sold -themselves- into slavery to escape living on the streets or some other undesirable circumstances.
