Dungeons and Dragons Online

If thisthread is inappropriate, please delete it. This is not intended to pull people away from Layo.
I was just wondering if anyone else was playing DDO, and if so, which server they were on.

A friend of mine said it was kind of lame.

Besides, I hate those games where even after you pay for it, you're still paying for it for the rest of your life, or at least, as long as you keep playing.

Like cable and a computer plus the game and expansions don't cost enough.

MMORPG's are like the biggest scams ever created. People buy the product and then continue to pay to use it, like I said, a perfect scam.

Well, I just heard that congress (for those in the US) is trying to pass a bill where the phone companies take controll of who gets faster internet....and though you may pay for cable, they'll still be able, if you don't pay their fees as well, decide on how to route you. Freaken lobbiests.

I really wonder if they get that through, how that's going to effect game play.

Then there's the bill where they want you to pay for emails.

Now that's terrorism.

This "bill" for taxing e-mail was shown to be a hoax and this rumor has been circulating for years.
And to be clear, the entire Congress is not trying to pass the bill regarding privatization...certain members are. And while the Telco lobby is strong, we also have numerous consumer advocacy lobbies which are also strong. If this bill even gets out of committee, I'd be surprised; if it gets approved I'd be even more surprised.
      And terrorism? Come on....
Lastly, stay on topic, or this thread gets the lock.

Terrorism is the act of causing terror...geez, what's more terrible to computer users then trying to instill the fear that they'll get charged for every email they send? It may have been a hoax but it was on at least 2 different news channels.

As for doubting if a Bill will get passed, I wouldn't put anything passed congress.

I can only assume you're talking about "Bill 602P"...and yes, it was a hoax propagated by someone NOT the US Government and it was mistakenly hyped by the media and so forth. Read this before spreading further rumor and hype as truth: http://www.snopes.com/business/taxes/bill602p.asp
I will not get into a debate with you over what is and is not terrorism...not here, not anywhere. This is simply not the place for such discussion. I will say again, stay on topic or the thread will be locked.

There is a free 7 day trial for DDO.  No credit card is needed, you just need to create and account and download the 1.7 gig client.  Overall it was a pleasant experience, no real RP I saw but my comp is not powerful enough yet to play it well.

I was on topic, somebody mentioned MMORPGs as scams that continually cost players money and I was stating that it might not be the only bill we players might be paying, which kind of relates to his statement. Then I just answered your comments about my comments (seems like if somebody is commenting on your statement, you should be allowed to reply [on a Forum]). I don't understand why some get torqued when somebody puts in their own points, it's not like it's going anywhere unless commented on. I suppose I could have opened another Topic but it seemed to fit in okay here. *shrug* It's all a matter of opinion (and maybe dictatorship  :o ).

As for what bill that was, I don't know, I tend to play Layonara while listening to the news (and it was something that made me say, "hmmm, that's not cool.").

    Back to topic>
I totally agree with MMORPGs as being a scam. It's why I don't play them...besides, they're kind of boring...but that a matter of opinion. I guess I could go see this DnD online at my friends house, if I didn't work 68hrs this week and had time to meet with him. As I can't seem to get around to that, I can't say if this game truly bombs except via what I've been told (and my opinion of other MMORPGs).

No, the topic is whether anyone is playing DDO and what server they are on. Not whether it is a scam or if it is any good.

Then I would say that nobody has stayed on topic (well, except Nyrolotep, but that was later....doesn't count  ---heeh)...except that it is under General Discussion.

Nobody stated if they've played or what server they were on. As well, there is the disclaimer that this topic should be deleted...which seems to open it up to General Discussions or comments. IMO.

@Icurus  Your initial comments strayed into politics and accusations of terrorism, neither of which were even remotely on-topic for this thread.  Experience has shown that discussions of political and religious natures tend to be quite passionate, emotional and often degenerate rapidly into a flame-fest of finger-pointing, name-calling and other general ugliness.  That's something we don't want or need here.  If you find proof of a real bill before congress to tax e-mail and you want to bring attention to it in hopes of preventing its passage, by all means make a new thread and keep it constructive.  The issue of privatization was already brought up in another thread , and there's no further reason to bring it up in this one.   The "stay on topic" reminder was for everyone. I'll not debate this further.

And nope...I've never played DDO, and it would seem that their general level of success in terms of new players and keeping old ones has been less than stellar.

I don't have time for fact finding everything (or even some things), that's why I post on a Forum (then somebody who knows can state fact...if they choose). I work two job for 68 to 72+ hours a week...sheesh (though there was an article at work that stated similar [oh, and it did have a website for telling your congressman to vote no towards the bill]...so what's a guy to believe? Especially now a day when my specialist will say one thing and your specialist will denounce my specialists as kooks? That's a generalized example, btw.)

Now, do I have to put little smiley faces by everything and second guess everything? I wasn't trying to make a case about terrorism except for using the root of the word and saying, "now that can strike fear into computer nerds/users...like myself." It's not like I put a grumpy face by it. Though, realistically, half the junk congress does scars the bejesus out of any number of people anyway. I can't help if somebody wants to take it personal, I just post an hope I ain't bugging the tar out of too many people.  :p

Hmmm, neeeeeed toooo staaaaay oooon tooopic > MMORPGs are bad. *as done in Mr Garison's voice* (if you're not laughing, there is really something wrong with you )  ;)
