langueage question.
« on: December 25, 2006, 03:09:50 pm »
I'm not sure if this should be here.

Can a character of the class Sorcerer and race elf. be taught the animal language at character creation/aproval?

I ask this because I have been thinking for a while of making an other character.

Not an official reply of course but I would have to say no.

As far as I know the animal language is not really a language at all. It is only the ability to comperehend and understand the feelings and emotions of animals and helping them understand you. That's how I've always played it anyway.

Together with thieves cant it's one of those special languages that are really simple. They shouldn't ever be used to form multiple sentences, but only simple thoughts and the like.

Animals having a common universal language would be a bit silly... Not everything you see in Disney movies is true you know. :P

That's exactly right, Falonthas.

Santa uses FedEx.

(By the way, IDii's got my agreement on that.)

There would have to be a very strong and plausable reason why the character would be able to communicate with animals. That's not a "yes" or a "no" but rather an indication that you need to communicate how this might happen and convince the character approvers.
My own personal opinion would be, however, that the odds are stacked against that happening. It all depends on the justification in the character submission though.
