Thanks for passing the news along...

A sad day indeed.  Thanks for filling a void out there Mr. Gygax, you'll not be forgotten.

Memorable quotes:

GYGAX
Anyone wanna play Dungeons & Dragons
                         for the next quadrillion years?

and of course.

GYGAX
                        Here. Take my plus-one mace.

GYGAX
Greetings! It's a ...[ rolls dice on table]  ... pleasure
                         to meet you!

R.I.P Your the man.

This is very sad indeed.  The world has lost a great mind, one who has touched all of us and many more.  May his family live on to know the profound affect Gary had upon so many.  He will be missed.

The end of an era.

Here's hoping that, wherever he is, he's already got a group together.  And that they're playing 2nd Ed.  Tomb of Horrors, anyone?

Just goes to show what one failed saving throw can do to you...

Rest in peace, Mr. Gygax.

I can only say that I owe at least eight years of my childhood / early teens to the works of Gygax and friends. I'm going to have to dig up all my old 1st edition books and modules to see what I've actually got from him... then frame them all nicely. Certainly a sad day for D&D.

*Bows his head for a moment of silence in his honour.*

R.I.P.

He brought me and many many people hours of joy, terror, laughter, and pandemonium.

Not sure if even Gary would be able to get through it unscathed.

A sad day, 69 is too young.
*fondly remembers all the GG modules he played and one of his favourite fantasy characters - Gord the rogue*

*holds her hat to her chest*

26 years.  Keep on the Borderlands to 3.5...countless characters that reflected everything I wanted to be at the time.

Rest in Peace.

Well, man, what can I say? This was the guy that got me drinking around a table while my friends got serious about DnD. I was always the Orc, I smashed everything, it was fun. I never really got into it on paper, to be honest. I DMed a bit, it was all too much work. But, man, let me tell you - a 30 rack of Natty Ice (Hey, this was during my poorer highschool/college days) - five good friends, and that jerkface of a DM we kept. Good times had by all.

I never knew his name until today, but it sucks when anyone dies.

I still have all the dice from my pnp days

and the best gaming times were from some of his guides

Rest in Peace, you ascended from level 40 a long time ago and everyone deserves a vacation

someone posted april 12th will be a national gamer mourning day to honor his memory

maybe we should arrange a gathering as well so that everyone can be present at the same time

R.I.P, poor ol' Gary.

(And I just noticed that the numbers 69 form a nice Yin&Yang symbol when looked upon with some imagination)

Reminds me of the old adage 'old gamers never die they just change worlds!'

Cant remember where I heard that before but i'm sure Gary took his dice with him :)
