i find is strange though that using Arse... to mean the exact thing... is that not just using 1=X for 1=Y? Same thing... just... idk yes yes lets just use Arse!

i used arse the first time few times. I got more '//please refrain from using bad language' using that than i did from *cough cough*
I give up on this.
Theres no winning, too many americans play Layonara plus the servers are situated there.
After checking up the internet, i only just found out that 'through' is spelt 'thru' in american, and all this time i thought Trysk was just plain lazy.

I'll just use buttocks from now on. i swear if someone gets annoy with that ..i'll follow Zeos and go insane!

Edit for the post below- Several people may use "thru" as just a shortform, like saying "nite" instead of night, or something. I don't think it's a matter of where you're from.

Actually "through" is abbreviated "thru" but that is not necessarily an official, correct spelling. And then there's Ozy's unofficial, unsanctioned abbreviation of "though" into "thou"....

I think the best thing to do is to use your common sense here. Context is key, and if in the context there are two alternatives, one with less of a negative or obscene connotation, then go with that one.
There are some words that should be blindingly obvious. Others...like the one that started the thread, are a bit more ambiguous.
And this isn't a matter of being required to speak "American" english or "True English" or whatever...As OneST8 pointed out, there are just too many dialects and variations on the language for any one version to be the authoritative gold standard. Seriously, just don't take this all so personally. If someone has a problem with your use of the word "ass" and tells you so, then just be respectful and try and avoid that word in the future around that character/player. While meaning essentially the same thing, "arse" (also "bum", even "backside") has a certain color and style that the other word lacks.
So yeah...use your judgement, but also consider that someone's child could be looking over their shoulder when you decide to slip a borderline obscenity into your RP. I think that's the point, really....to try and keep it clean.

Interesting...though not entirely accurate, nor comprehensive.
I found many instances in that list which were inaccurate or incomplete...like:
alligator pear (American/Canadian) = avacado (British) (er...we call them avacados too)
outlet (A/C) = socket (B) (as in electrical outlet...yeah, we use both)
...and so on....
So don't get your knickers in a bunch about whether or not you're using the exact right American English term, because really, we don't all care that much. Go ahead and spell honor with a "u"...I think it looks neat.

It always amazes me that most of the spelling errors on this forum are from Americans

. Please, don't call me pedantic (if you even know the meaning), but I just think that it contributes to the overall quality of the forum if people type plain english.

Seriously, I speak english, but sometimes I really don't know what people talk about.

EDIT: Maybe not on topic, but I kind of got confused about the exact topic of this thread.

And concerning the language on the server. I think we're trying to achieve a setting of a world that resembles the middleages concerning culture. So I would definately avoid 'slang' on the server. So if you say: "Yo homey!". You're bad!
