A question about deities names set at character creation.
    « on: November 08, 2006, 09:31:48 am »
Having read through a good chunk of the players handbook, I came across the section about summoning different creatures in relation to the deity you serve.  Now is this specifically triggered by what name you put in to the deity part at character creation?  Or does this get changed if you go through enough RP to warrant a switch to your chosen faith?  Thank you for any replies.

It affects clerics specificly.. though I haven't experienced a diety switch post creation with an affected character

Mages can change their summons using a Censor.. but... again.. I don't know if the attunment means an automatic change once you switch diety

I would assume this is the case should the summoning checks be done in the manner you hypothesized.

    Both :)

It is triggered by the deity you put in as part of character creation but can be changed if you go through enough rp to warrant a switch.

Well, those summons are primarily for clerics, who must have a deity configured, for obvious reasons.
Arcane casters summon according to alignment...however...there is a device in-game that can align the magic (including summons) of an arcane caster to follow his or her chosen deity. This device can be purchased at temples.
One thing to note. If someone chooses a deity, whether at creation or down the road after RP, it is hoped and expected that such a choice reflects the beliefs of the character and not simply a player's desire to get a particular kind of summons.

Also, Be careful when switching your summons if you use an Arcane Censor. There's this weird bug (It may only have to do with taking a deity out of your slot) that will give you the NWN default summons as a result of the change.

On a side note I've recently heard about a summon bug that has occured recntly.. where by using a Feat summon (Palemaster/blackguard) causes you to summon a lv 1 statless dwarf called Human

Thank you all for the replies.  I was wondering how it would work out, I was intending to start off with a deity at character creation but I thought it would flesh out the character more if I had to work to achieve my faith instead of being a follower all of a sudden.  In any case thank you all for the help.
