some questions...
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:37:12 pm »
Heya,

You'd think after the years I've played here I'd know these answers, but nope...:)

My son is going to start playing, and we will be playing on the same WiFi, will that mess anything up?

Also do I have to buy another copy of the game and install it on my second computer? I already have NWN Platinum installed on both.

And... I have a copy of the NWN original game, will that CD key work for him to play?

Thanks,
Merlin34

Well. the instalation its not the problem, but you need to have two set of CD keys registered in the two versions I think ( I've tried run the game in a private lan game in two pc's with the same CDkey sets without succed )

If you instaled the game on the second PC with the same sets of CD keys , they can be changed to the new set ( other set of the three cdkeys ) in the file : nwncdkey.ini

That file you'll find on the NWN directory.

Hope this serves, brother.

Make sure you read this and make the appropriate changes to one of your computers:

Okay, that helps, but the final question, since I have a copy of the original NWN with the black cover on the manual can I use that CD key and be able to have him play? Or do I need to go purchase a copy of diamond for the three keys? Because I also have a Platinum copy that I use to play.

I guess my question is if the one key is enough from the original version, or do I need three keys for him, as platinum is already installed on both?

Thanks,

Ah, what you're saying is you don't have all the expansion keys, just the first key. My guess is you need different keys for all primary and expansions, but I'm not positive about that.

I do think that the three keys are needed. since I think Layo uses features that came with the hordes of underdark. so the 3 keys would be needed. Again i have not tested this .. but sounds like the logical aproach for me.

It is possible that only the NWN key has to be unique. I suggest running a private LAN game to find out.

As far as I know, all three keys are required to play in Layonara. You're welcome to try to connect with just the one key but my best guess is you'll need three keys per concurrent player.

Also, be sure to follow the instructions found in the thread Dorganath mentioned.

Right, thanks!

I'll just buy a new copy of diamond to get the three keys.

OK another question...

I'm getting the second copy of the game today and were ready to go. but...

LORE: How To Play Behind A Firewall

I have no idea what this means to play with two CPUs at the same time, I think this section could use some work to make it easier to understand.

I can't find any file labeled: nwnplayer.ini   to change the port number, could someone tell me how to find it?

My Thanks,
Merlin34 & Teo

The file should be in your NWN directory.  This defaults (on a Windows install) to C:\\NeverwinterNights\\NWN\\.  If you have windows set not to show extensions, it will likely show up just as a file labeled "nwnplayer", and have an icon that looks like a notebook with a gear next to it.

The file 'nwnplayer' should be in your main folder. should look something like (wherever you have your game installed at)\\NeverwinterNights\\NWN and then it will say 'nwnplayer' not 'nwnplayer.ini'.

Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone, I found it! Please let us know if I didn't change it right, I put the port one up from what it was and hit save on the notepad, I hope that's right. Now if only UPS would deliver the game, Teo is practicing on Xora's Vial right now!

My Thanks,

you'll need to change both ports so that neither of them are the original port number
so... maybe one needs to be 22 and one 23
