Playing Tour-Guide
« on: July 13, 2005, 11:19:00 am »
So, as "Hyell" was guiding Ayla Bineau to Fort Velensk, he made the comment that he may have to open up a guiding service. As I sit back and think on it, I realize that there are probably alot of players who do not know their way around as much, or that there are areas that players are just not likely to go to.

I was wondering then, if I set up a set of expeditions through some of the less known terrain of the world, how many people would be interested in attending? Chances are there would be some danger, and some treasure, but for the most part you would be seeing new lands, or atleast new paths.

I won't post any times yet, as this is all just a concept so far ... just want to see how many people would actually be interested in doing something like this.

I'm game.

You should make it a player-led event or something.

Sorry to keep "following you around" on these forums, Zhofe, but this is a great idea. I can get from Hlint to Fort Valensk but that's about it. And my character is too nervous to go much further out because of dangers both real and imagined...would definitely attend.

Hey, maybe you can RP who will participate?  (joke!!!)  ;)

Yes, I probably would put it on the player led events on the calendar, but I think I would concentrate more on posts in the Wild Surge Inn.

Don't worry about following me around, it feeds my ego. I may just see how things would go if I found two people and told THEM to assemble a group instead ... heh ...

This is a great idea. Ifion, as an Aragenite, has been mapping Mistone for the past month. He loves exploring new areas and playing cartographer, recording everything in his journal. When his invisibility and sanctuary spells don't do the trick, he recruits escorts for a grave trip :( The people he recruits always ask, "What was an insignificant, poorly armed low level character doing near the [insert huge horde of vicious monsters here]. To which I reply, "I didn't know they were there. I just took a left at the fork in the road and ..."

These types of trips are also great for helping newcomers find spell components, crafting items, cougars, ports with ships to other places, temples for their chosen deity, etc. And they would decrease the congestion around Hlint, too. As well as provide RP opportunities along the way. It's win-win-win.

Put it on the calendar as a player led event and I think you'll get a good response.

Thanks

I'd love it.  Most have my deaths have been of the "I wonder what's over here" variety.   Might even convince some people to leave Hlint and West Server if they weren't scared to death of even walking out the gate :)

I have given quite a few tours of new areas (especially Dregar) It is really fun, but almost always still involves quite a few deaths  ;) . Most of my tours just happen whenever i feel like giving a tour and leaving the lag of west.

I also give tours if someone asks me to get somewhere and i have time to give a tour

I would love to see the central server or Rilara on West.  I've seen most of Mistone which is good.  But I still need to be adventurous enough to see the other continents and islands.  I don't like dying so I don't put myself into that situation unless I'm with at least one other person or stealthy.  hehe :)

Well, I'll get things set up then. Where would y'all like to go for our maiden expedition?
