Yes, you can just create the portraits directory and put all of them in there. The game will pick them up.
Welcome aboard and have fun!

Hmm seeing as this thread is called 'Portraits' maybe I'll just use it for my question too. Does anyone have any idea what happened to this portrait? It appears in manuals and online, and I swear I remember playing a character with it before there were any expansion sets. Am I hallucinating or did it disappear? I love that portrait! >.<

I have checked the vault! Combinations of sorceress, official, bioware, elf/gnome haven't worked for me *cringes*
Edit: gah oh no.. it's like that blonde elf portrait they "improved" is it? Why oh why would they remove such a gorgeous piece!

In that case couldn't one just get the original NWN, install, find portrait, extract, rename, add in, viola?

Yeah it's still in the original game files. Though they replaced it with another portrait in HotU.
Looked it up and that portrait is called "po_gn_f_06_"
So you can extract that one from the original NWN files and either rename it or keep the same name. If you do keep the same name though, everyone without the portrait in their portraits folder will see the other sorcerous gnome portrait though.

Thanks for taking the time to give me the in depth info, it made it possible for me to locate the portrait online and I'm doin a lil jig right now in joy! I only have the Platinum edition of NWN now so I couldn't extract the old files, but I managed to find the portrait on a great big French site, called the Dark Wind. I think Layonarans might know all about this site b/c I recognize many portraits from the pack on the French site. In any case, it has an awesome collection, with some beautiful portraits, and some questionable ones too (as usual). I make linky just in case.
Go to Ventsombre
Go to the Gnome Sorceress portrait

Awesome site! A lot of cool portraits to download there, but yeah, what's with all those floozy chicks? Would anyone seriously consider using a portrait like that? I'm glad you finally found that portrait you've been looking for. Now maybe you'll stop screaming at me about it. P?
