Worst Deaths
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:52:00 pm »
I just had my fourth DT out of the last five times I've died, in Sielwood to bloody spiders (I think had the game not lagged for half a second, I'd have managed to HiPS and gotten away...) and in a combination of venting and inspiration, I ask that you share your worst deaths/things that happened relating to it.  I want to hear about tokens, people!

Ouch sorry to hear that. I had a string of deaths that racked up 2 tokens in 3 deaths. When I first started, I was in the goblin caves and I died on the way in the long hall before the hut on the second level (token number 1) went back got my corpse took about 5 steps and went around the corner and all the goblins I thought were gone from that death were waiting in a very clever ambush. I exploded and thought I got another token.

A DM said latter I only had 3 not 4 as I thought, and the bindstone only showed 3. Otherwise it would have been 3 for 3. Got corpse again, rested and went the other way out from the hut and argoed more goblins I tried to run and made it to the hall leading to the strange eye tyrant looking stuff coming up from the floor and the goblin in the party got some argo off me, so I stopped to drink a potion and the goblins their saw me and killed me just as I drank the potion. I was dead before I could swallow it. Token 2 all happened in pry 20 minutes or so.  At the time I was really depressed because I thought that took me to 4 tokens and I was only level 4 or just turned 5 and I was almost half way to perm dead already on my 2nd or 3rd day on Layo.

I have had some really bad deaths that didn't involve tokens that were pry worse deaths, like bleeding to death AFTER Noss cast a big heal on me and getting the message Noss heals your for xx HP.

Text was like 1 point of magical damage from bleeding
Noss heals you for xx HP
You take 1 point of magical damage
    You have bled to death

Not sure if it was server lag that killed me or a weird imitative thing in the system due to the way magic works as magic goes at the beginning of a round. Noss got higher imitative so his spell went off but the server counted the bleeding magical damage first or what. Either way it was a bad way to die or we all have a million lag deaths some end in a token some don't.

I know its not the worst deaths possible That goes to the solo green goblin on the hill above the caves that killed me when I was level 5. Man you feel stupid at 5 dying to a solo level 1 goblin but when the dice are against you what can you do, you don't run because if you hit him hes dead and I mean he can't really kill you can he. Well the answer is yes he really can kill you.

Ive really only had one horribally string of deaths so far.  Sul and I were travling through the high forrest mapping out the resources when I stumbled unto a large group of spiders, *At the time I didnt know the spawn size was dependant on the group*, so I died.  No biggie, dieing is what i seem to do best. As we went back to retrive my tombstone we set up a couple traps to use as an excape route and I went foward to get my tombstone.  I even casted darkenss over the group of spiders so they couldnt see me.  as I approached the tombstone i realized the dang thing was under a harvestable tree and I couldnt click on it.

Well in the process of this the spiders some how saw me through the darkness and attacked.  2nd death.  But unforntally Sul was killed as well. But just before I was killed I managed to highlight my tombstone so I knew there was hope.  We went back into the high forrest and once again prepared, I casted darkenss on the group leaving plenty of it between them and myself and walked up to the tree.  After about a minuate of spinning and zooming tha camera I managed to highlight the crave to select and... The spiders attacked Sul through my darkenss.  Well I cant pray at my gravestone while combat is going on so I tried waiting but unforntally Sul died and recived a dt.  I tried running to the next zone but as a ghost I wasnt moving very fast.  I was killed and lost 8k xp.  *sigh*

Sul decided she was going to take a break and being stubbron I headed back for mine.  Made it there and DUH... Realized I should sneak to the tree and get my tombstone..  Well that worked and I headed towards Port Hamp to go and help another friend get there body.  I blame it on a lack of sleep but I went left in the broken forrest when I should of went right.  Anyway three shades jumped me, killed me,  another 8k gone and a dt.    Some days ya should just stay in bed.  lol.

So, I was in the battle fens right, only a bit away from Level 10. We were there retrieving the graves of the rest of the party but we decided (cause we're dumb) to head all the way to the Fens Cave.

Well, we get there and are brutally beaten, but we make it out of the cave, and rest, and then in the next battle I end up making my level.

Now, we are trying to get out of the Fens as soon as possible, so I don't stop to level. This was in the days of 10% XP loss on death by the way, and I think you guys see where this story is going now.

Now, had I taken that level, I would have been fine. I would have been more than fine, but I didn't. We kept moving through the fens. There was a group of trolls right, well, me and the other fighter go ahead and head into the trolls, thinking the rest of our party is behind us ...

    They aren't ...

What were they doing! Just standing there! .... then they fade away ... they crashed out ...

So me and the other fighter are running around the fens for our lives, and we hope that if nothing else if NOTHING else, we can atleast time out the spawn with our running. (fair, no, but neither is our party disappearing ...) So we are running, running, and then I start running toward a tree ....

    A cnr tree ...

    and stop ...

and die to a troll claw ...

and without leveling lose enough XP to take me back farther than that adventure had gotten me ... even with the XP I got back for retrieveing my death. So, a combination lag/misclick/level-losing death .... I think that about takes it.

Not sure if I got a DT or not, but it would make it the perfect death eh?

LOL, Daeron always checks whether there is a cleric in party. The worst death was when I first stated and got killed in the goblincaves, lowest level, halfway through.

Sure, let Daeron walk right up to the goblins to cast burning hands op them. What, oh you fighters will distract them. Alright then... :P And because I didn't know yet how you got your statpoint back I let myself get transported to my grave. So here I was, the party long gone, in the lowest level of the goblincave, with a strength of 4 or something.

It took me an hour or longer to get out of there.

But other then that I haven't died much lately, no death tokens! Invisibility Rulez!

Err... once when I was 1'000 experiance from level 9 I died three times, almost in a row. Was set back a whole lot and took me a few more weeks to get back up.
Went afk once came back, giant hand spawned and wandered and killed me, lost xp and got a DT. Lovely eh?
We finished a fight with water elementals and my deathward wore off, not ten seconds later another one popped up behind and used Drown. I missed the save by one, aswell as my save Vs. the soul mother by one. DT. (Oh had it been spawned about 12 seconds earlier, I'd have lived)

Alright just a quick blirp from myself.  Went with a group to Storan's crypt yesterday.  Not pretty, died 3 times, lost 100,000 in exp and acquired a death token.  Most others didn't fare so well either.  But *shrugs* it's just a game.  It's the chance you take.

Worst death..lets see! Must have been the time i walked through the Broken forest not noticing i was'nt wearing any armor. SO i died, and that was at lvl 20, but those undeads hit hard when they only need to pass an AC of 8 heh. Worst death, and definetely the most stupid one too.

Got no token thugh...but it was horrible, and at that time you lost EXP on dying.

*cracks his knuckles and prepares to beat Varka's worst death*
I was fighting Drow with Ahndar and Nostros, and perhaps Deiwos aswell though I don't remember. There was a Drow Mage of the Awakaned Storm or something, two Meteorswarms killed us all, cept me... oh yeah! I was at -3 HP and healing.
Well I stood up and immediatly cast invisibility. But one of the warriors spotted me and gets a single attack off before leaving me alone, my Stoneskin absorbs 20 damage, and the blow only delt me 1! So I'm incapacitated. The mage then casts True Sight, and I run.... I get out of range right as it casts another Meteor swarm and run faaaar away. I get to the Transition and hit my tab key. Nothing around me. Then for no reason what so ever I take 33 magical damage and drop dead. There was nothing there.  :o

These are great...Now Ketzia doesn't feel so bad about some of the ways she died....

I don't know, ZeroVega. While it does suck to be killed by nothing, I think Varka's death still wins...the ignominy and shame of dying to a deer...even under those circumstances...LOL....

I don't know, Varka...I know this is all OOC...but if Ketzia meets you in game, she'll have a hard time not bringing this up!  Well done!  ;)

    Hmm.

Mine was probably when Reggub was storming the forsaken temple of Corath (place is no longer there, this was in V1) alone. See there was this undead king in a wild magic area you had to defeat for a key. So it's this king, two liches and two balor lords and some other undead... in wild magic. Started with a few firebrands and the usual stuff, hoping they'd get past the wild magic... then tried an IGMS... I was lvl15 and had 15 missiles and back then those all could still hit one target. So of course the wild magic works and all the missiles hit me... I go to like 5hp, start running around trying to cast invis... and then manage when my premonition is about to die. So then I just make a run out of there... with 5hp... Forget the minor spike trap at the entrance, run into it and get hit for 6 damage... and slowly bleed to death. Didn't get a token but lost 250kxp or something.

Hmm... Another I guess was when I for some reason tried to solo a group of 20 lilanthier outcast arcane archers with Reggub. Just went in the middle of the group with the idea of casting meteor swarms and timestops till all of them roll under 6 with their reflex twice (had +29 reflex and imp evasion or something but low hp). So yeah I think my timestop would last two meteor swarms but it didn't... get shot to death and get a death token and lose 470kxp. And of course XP loss on death is removed the week after that... Gah.

Hmm. Dying to a deer isn't even bad. Ozy got fireballed to death by a corpse placeable once (you know the kind monsters drop for loot). Wild magic is fun... hehe.

I guess this is my worst one.
Went to the barbarian isles with three other including Gloin. Everything went fine we faught some tough battles but always came out on top. Eventually we went into the ice caves. Very complacent seeing that we could handle most of what we are faced with.
The next battle Gloin runs into the middle of of lot of goblins to cast. I stay back with arrow cover and the next moment Gloin falls dead. I am left to fight wolveriders and goblins.....did not last long....could not run either.
Received a DT and had to sit my death through (20 rounds) because I was binded to Hlint and Gloin was binded to central somewhere if I was not mistaken. Bad death....it really sucked. Still dont know what killed Gloin...
Close second is being killed by the beholder on mixa's quest the other night. Did not even know there was a beholder, I was killing troll a long way off and really hurting them. The next moment I am dead. Scroll up and see like 4 save against will and fortitude, but eventually killed by the beholder with death magic I think, no big hits, just death *sighs*

Hmm..I haven't died very much and I haven't received any DT yet at lv 7 but...I think that my worse one was when I was sneaking from spellguard back to Hlint I walked over to see the boat guy in the gulf or whatever it was called.  I didn't see the goblins yet...must have been the angle I was looking at.  I turned off sneak and started back toward the path and saw them just in time to become stealthy again.  So I'm like this is cool and I looked at them a little...they looked like the ones around Hlint so I stupidly decide that maybe I can take them and fire an arrow at them.  Two of them charge me.  I try fighting but I'm taking too much damge so i run to the end of the map toward Hlint warp through then when I'm through I turn around by accident and warp back then through one more time...by this time I've taken too much damage and they strike the death blow. :(  I felt so stupid.  I had to walk back stealthy to get my grave...luckily they weren't there anymore.

...my adrenaline gets pumping when I'm running away from things...I tend to get away alright too don't know how I do it.  It's nice to have a good Tumble...
One instance of the quick Remy was when Balit and a wizard i don't remember his name went to Rilara to find someone to deliver a letter  to at a Fort.  We delivered the letter then decided to find his cow for him.  We go in search of the cow Balit and I thinking that the wizard was a higher level and knew what he was doing. Not the case.  We run into some ogre (They looked bigger than ogres though...maybe giants)  so we strategize to take both of them.  The wizard casts something at they and he's killed almost instantly...  Now I'm ashamed of this but I left Balit behind and ran as fast a my little legs could take me with a ogre in hot pursuit.  I ran all the way back to the Fort and not knowing that he was still following me I stopped there. Stupid I know.  He whacked me from behind and I laid there dying while the NPC fought him with his cows.  At least my speed made my grave be in the Fort instead of right where the ogres were. :)
