Would it be ok to?
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:50:53 pm »
I have been in other servers that allow this, but before I do it I want to make sure it acceptable amongst players in the world of Layonara.

Would it be ok to log on and do a shout out saying ie. "Level "#" looking for a group"?

or would that be frowned upon by Layonara characters?

I have read many posts by GM saying that Layonara is a RP world and encourages group play...

so thats why I am bringing this up?

Soloing is ok for CNR and such but I personally play NWN to play with other players..so joining up in a group is always a plus in my book..satety in numbers I always say.

So...GMs..let me know if this is ok to do?

Shout channel is not available to players.  It's best to try to use the forums or IRC to get a group together.

Since I am no GM, I can answer that the channel Shout should not be used by players. Its for Gm use only.

It would be always good to see Server Status to see if there are some people of your level on the server, you could always send a tell to players to see if there is something going on. As you say this is a RP server and Rp and grouping is encouraged.

Feel free to send tells, we have great and helpful players here ...

Oh and for clarity...it's not that Shout is not allowed...it just can't be used.  We have it turned off for players.  As Lance said, it's GM only.

And, really, in servers where it IS allowed, I've often found that it breaks immersion rather thoroughly.

: Well met!  How fare you this evening?
: Fair enough, though I had an unfortunate run-in with some goblins earlier.
: Oh?  Perhaps I can be of aid?
[Shout]: LEVEL 12 LOOKING FOR GROUP!

Thanks all

I have to say that my brief experience so far with the world of Layonara has been great with PCs always willing to help (to many to mention, but thanks to all who they who have helped Shadowleaf).  This IMO is what separates the "ok" worlds from the "immersion" worlds of NWN RP worlds.  We all use NWN (Layonara) in our certain way...and the PnP people from back in the days when there was nothing but pencil, graph paper, dice...up all hours, know exactly what Im talking about.  There was not much "soloing" if at all in the dice version of D&D so thats why I threw this thread out there.  I know that the shout outs are not good in RP worlds..just wanted to know of way to log on and be able to meet up with (compatible levels) and do some exploring.  I didnt think of using tells because didnt want bother anyone in doing quests or such.  I (in given time and once know A-Z about Layonara) will help others who are new in the same way that others have helped me when I was new and just arrived to Layonara...

Never be afraid to ask in tell, just don't be let down if sometimes people are already busy with something. If not I'm sure every one here would be willing to help.

Busy or not, you're usually pretty much guaranteed a response if nothing else, and if unable to help themselves (on a quest, in a dungeon, about to go to bed, etc) most would attempt to direct you to where you might find some.
