We are not allowed to make a penny from NwN/NwN2 and we can not give "benefits" for people in game or anything like that for donations. Our hands are tied so that we can not make a penny and all money (other than a donation) that is made via NwN/NwN2 goes to Bioware/Obsidian/Atari/WoTC. That is how the system works.

Yes, that's what I suspected.
HOWEVER,...

I read in one of the developer interviews (linked from somewhere in these Forums, I think)
where he talked about how the "meshes" would make hugely numerous maps impractical. He goes on to say
(I paraphrase from memory), "We are counting on the NWN community to help figure out solutions
to this problem."

I think Bioware/Obsidian/Atari/WoTC might be convinced to support the Layo community.
If you, Dan Scott, collect a nominal manditory donation at non-profit levels (just enough to
pay for hosting and a new server every 6 months). And if you send in a check to B/O/A/W as
per the licencing agreement they might be convinced to simply return the check as a donation
to the Layonara Community.

The upside to B/O/A/W goes like this:
1. Several hundred people buy NWN2 who would otherwise have good reason to skip.
2. A dozen or more developer/mapmakers with known track record work on making NWN2 more robust.
3. Lots of goodwill to the map-making community for truely small anounts of money.
4. If too many people start asking for the same kind of deal B/O/A/W reserves the option
to renegotioate.

Do you think they would go for it?
Would enforcing "manditory donations" take all the fun out of it for you?
Would all the accounting take up too much time?

Just some ideas...

Here's an interesting question:

Is the Licencing for NWN2 going to change?
Will L be able to charge a small nominal fee, like 1/100 USD per character level per day?

Fantastic. Really exceeds my expectations.

But...

A year from now will we be taking up collections for litter collection?

(Just kidding)
You guys have really set a high bar for NWN2!

General Discussion / RE: Player Vendors
« on: August 22, 2005, 08:39:00 AM »
How about player "Chests"?
A player could rent(day/week/month) a chest in a merchant area containing:
1. a parchment with player scribed information.
2. 4 or 5 items, maximum.
3. a stack of money.

The parchment could contain a variety of information including:
--The list and decriptions of the items offered with their prices.
--"The item 'X' is reserved for player 'Y' at the agreed on price of 'Z' gold coins."
--Offers to buy items at a set price with the stack of money in the chest.

A gazette compiled from all the parchments could be on display on the website much
like the tradeskills are displayed now.

Of course, this is an Honor-based system, so how do we protect it?
In RP-terms a "Guard" could be posted next to the chests that will remind
passers-by that the guard knows all the contents of all the chests and is
watching everybody. (He/she could also have a continous True Seeing).
Secondly, no Merchant Chests in Hlint. Maybe the closest in Port Hampshire
or Spellgard? I don't know.

The restricted number of items will still mostly force people to arrange
sales in the normal ways instead of "Windowshopping".
The number restriction will also prevent the sale and purchase of raw
materials (except for the hyper-rare/valuable stuff).
And, of course, Merchant Chests are no substitute for houses.

Finally, is all this too complicated?
Here's an easy solution:
Guilds and only guilds are allowed one Player Vendor.

Thanks for all your effort,

A smaller note is posted on the door.
Mr. Gloin,

Please pardon the interruption but as I am short of coin I would like
to offer an Extraordinary (if I do say so, myself) Belt of Cunning for
one of the Adamantium Short Swords. The belt could then also be auctioned
off with sufficient advertising. I have heard that there is a market for
these items.

Best of luck always,

Server Rules / RE: Pick Pocketing
« on: February 23, 2005, 03:20:00 PM »
The time Snippi (and Perego, and ...) all got duplicated I tried Pick Pocketing myself.
AND it WORKED TOO!

(remember-- if multiple people play from behind the same NAT be sure to change the client port
for each person so that each player have a different client port. Not doing this WILL crash
the server!)

Layonara Server / RE: perma death
« on: February 03, 2005, 12:11:00 PM »
There has been no mention of players who retire their characters when they get up near the limit.
All that accumulated power, wealth, and crafting skill is held in reserve -- perhaps indefinately
while the player starts a new character. Or that character becomes a fixture of the Layo Quest
enviroment (Tak'). Only someone with access to the database of old and deleted characters can
give us the stats on that. (L.-- don't bother we don't really have to know THAT bad.)

In any case I've run the numbers and even if you die 3 times per level you will still make it
well into Epic levels.

Wild Surge Inn / A halfling and a monk go into a bar
« on: January 30, 2006, 06:43:01 AM »
A short and wounded halfling and a well-dressed monk rush into the Wild Surge Inn--
Almost out of breath the halfling begins shouting,"I need your attention, please, people!
Big, flying, fire-breathing, DEMON attacked us in the Broken Forest! It invaded Fort Hope!
It massacred many people! Terrible! Horrible!"

Nobody pays any attention. As the halfling catches his breath Fing walks over and collapses
at their feet and begins snoring. The halfling mutters under his breath, "Buncha drunks!"

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Basic meat for Smoked Jerky?
« on: January 19, 2006, 07:51:44 AM »
Now that there are Roasts and 6 types of animal meat the one resipe that requires generic meat is broken.
There are any number of ways to solve this problem. Perhaps the easiest is to have Deer to drop regular
generic meat along with venison meat.

  Thanks,
