General Discussion / Re: Happy Belated Birthday To...« on: April 13, 2006, 07:40:07 AM »Quote lonnarin - 4/12/2006 11:14 PM Actually, from the article I read, he's very much alive and active. Although he has developed diabetes and had to have a sugarfree birthday cake. They said in the clip that chimps usually only live til their 40s in the wild, and usually their 60s in captivity. Cheeta is the oldest chimp known to man according to the Guiness Book of World Records. I wonder if he still gets royalties from the old Tarzan movies? :p 2
Layonara Server / RE: A Letter To The Community« on: April 11, 2006, 11:26:32 AM »Quote Sage of Artifice - 4/11/2006 10:34 AM That was actually quite a generalization. Mature individuals CAN handle roleplaying such a character. Immature individuals? Well, they're the ones that engender such generalizations. Attitude is a much better indicator of maturity than age in my opinion, and I'm actually more than willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. 3
Server Rules / Re: Abuse of AI in temples and locations like that« on: April 11, 2006, 07:50:07 AM »Quote solo - 4/4/2006 3:15 PM That's YOUR take on the situation. I don't know you, or your friend, but I came here for the exact opposite reason that keeps your friend from being excited about it. I'd rather have a higher level character "cop a superiority attitude" towards my new character than to just decide to kill me because he felt like it. There are servers out there that will cater to your friends' (and sounds like your) desires. Once again, I'm pleased that it's not a PvP/CvC server. 4

If you look at this world like a PnP campaign (which it really actually is, not an MMO), the DM(s) have the final say in what direction the players take. Since the focus of the campaign is combatting the evil that has come back, with the players specifically "called" to oppose Sinthar, it (to me) makes sense that players not be allowed to drift towards becoming evil as a general rule.
I've been doing a lot of design work on my own material, but I've decided to take some time out to play while waiting on the next patch for NWN to be finalized and released, and then the community content that will follow to also be finalized and released. I was giving thought to joining the Arelith persistent world, but I actually decided against it after reading their boards for awhile and seeing the the conflicts that playing evil-aligned characters and having PvP created. What I'm saying is that if choosing evil alignments is restricted, and that unacceptable behaviour is policed here, then in my opinion this is the place for me. To me, playing an evil character seems to be a lot less about roleplaying that character, than being able to abandon your morals and act however you feel like it in a place where there are no real repercussions for your actions. Just my take on the whole thing... 5

General Discussion / RE: Underwater Areas?« on: April 10, 2006, 12:03:30 PM »Quote Dorganath - 4/10/2006 1:43 PM One other thing to keep in mind is that while bubbles and free "flying/swimming" may be neat and all, many times such things don't work well in an online PW if for no other reason than the increased lag that such things produce. So any time systems like this are introduced, we evaluate them for impact on many different levels before even starting to integrate them.Sounds good!

Gah! I was just over at NWVault looking at some preview screenshots for the upcoming Classic Dungeon tileset update when I saw one of the pop-up ads on the left side of the screen. It was for IGN mobile and it had this red bar in the ad. My first thought was...

General Discussion / Underwater Areas?« on: April 10, 2006, 09:13:06 AM »
Another question.
I did a forum search on "underwater" for the past year and came up with a few references. Most were in stories concerning sea elf character development, but there were a few that weren't.Without giving any specific area information, are there underwater areas ingame, or are there plans for any? I've done some playing around with the NWN 1.67 Beta (never having played PotSC) and came up with a decent approximation of underwater (incorporating a non-winged appearance or phenotype change to flying(swimming) would be the final step, and I know that flying characters will be included in CEP 2.0). They're even adding the bubbles VFX which when applied to a character makes a stream of bubbles come from the mouth area of the character. That and the appropriate colors for the sunlight and fog make it pretty nice. (I've been doing some playing around with various tilesets, creatures, and other things to try and create a fairly accurate representation of the Eberron campaign setting.) 13
General Discussion / Question About Customizing Clothes« on: April 10, 2006, 07:57:21 AM »
Hello all,
I don't really know if this is a question or more of an observation. When I was able to get back online and play last night, I went to the public crafting hall to change my clothes around. I know the camera angles are a completely BioWare thing but that, coupled with the location of the loom, made it extremely difficult to change certain parts of the clothing. Mainly the chest and pelvis... I found myself trying to guesstimate the appearance based off the 2D .plt icon in my inventory and having to make several additonal changes. The strange camera angles are unavoidable, but perhaps changing the loom to something that could be seen over/around? Unless there's another way of unlocking the camera to allow completely free movement during crafting that I don't know about? Thanks
