Shorter Quarterstaffs
« on: June 18, 2005, 10:05:00 PM »
I was wondering if there are, or if we could some how make, a quarterstaff that could be equipped by a halfling.  I mean it wouldn't have to look really any different, it could just be proportionate to the halfling.  I'm just wondering because I've found that I'm best a RP'ing halflings, and I would like to be able to use a quarterstaff with my halfling.  If this isn't possible, just inform me and I will leave you all alone.   :)

There are some I remember some one using a halfling as a child model and he was lugging around a staff :)

He was lugging arounda gem setting tool. I told him it would work for what he wanted. I'm not sure what the root item of the tool is though, it may not be a good enough weapon for what he is looking for, but then again, it might. Worth a look.

I saw a way to turn a CLUB into a mini Quarterstaff, yet it didnt work in game.

Perhaps our guys can make that work.

You can already turn a club into a bat, and a wooden sword. But for some reason the staff design doesnt work in game.

the base item for the gemcrafting tool is a "magic staff" 1d6 bludgeoning (20 x2)

However theres no base "magic staff" available IG and the gem tools have negatives to attack and damage, so they're really only a prop.

In D&D or AD&D there are Quarterstaffs/BO Staff (does 1d6 damage)and the shorter JO Staff / Quarterstaff  (does 1d4+1 damage but the "speed" rating is 1 faster but is also 1 catagory smaller in size.).  Now I have no idea of  how AD&D 3rd / 3.5 treat the "JO Staff"  but this could be a starting point.

Hope this helps :),

On the JO staff, where could I find one?  I mean do I have to buy one from any regular melee vendor or would I have to have it custom made?  This is really helpful and I can almost see the light at the end of this staffless tunnel.

Sorry Trip, at this point I think you misunderstood. The consensus is that there is nothing available for you in the game. Nothing exists. So ideas are now being tossed around about how it could be implemented at some point. There is no Jo Staff, at least not currently.
Unless it's just a prop, a halfling sized character cannot currently weild a staff.

I just use a club.  For sized small players it's two handed, a big wooden stick and does the same 1d6 x2 bludgeoning dmg that quarterstaffs can do.  Gnomes look pretty funny holding them though, like sinister little munchkins at kneecap height brandishing Louisville sluggers. :)

The "magic staff" gemsetting tool that Talan mentioned above has a bit more fluent, staff-like gfx when you weild it.

Ok.  I've got a club and I custom crafted it and I'm pretty darn proud of it.  It doesn't look exactly like a quarterstaff, but its a whole lot closer than the club was.  That and it looks just flat out awesome!  ;) Thanks to everyone for all of their suggestions.
