Good discussion everyone.

I agree with what the G-man is saying there. I don't see anything wrong with making an item if someone puts thier time and effort into gathering high end CNR, then goes through the RP and pays someone to craft an item for them.

I have some rather mixed feelings about some of the other methods things get distributed around the servers. I would rather that everyone Be like Ozy, and require some sort of heroic feat on par with gathering the CNR required to have the item crafted yourself, than to see items sold, given or traded to other players who may not be capable of making use of the items for several levels, then immediately getting a big stat boost or damage or whatever at the required level for the item.

I guess what I am getting at is that in a low magic world like Layonara, having such powerfull magical items readily available for nothing more than coin imbalances the challenge rating in the players favor considerably. In my opinion.

If elves come to Bjornigar for even the simplest item, he tasks them with the quest to "quit being an elf or go hug a tree".

I assume you are talking about +3 items. And still aside from the
yew items, I do not know what items that are "such powerful" and are
available for "nothing more than coin".

I do not really see where the problem is. Even if we go one step
lower, for lets say a fighter, getting +2 equipment with nothing
but coin would cost more than 140k for a set of jewelry, a weapon,
a shield, an armor and gloves. None of my characters have ever
bought or traded for a complete set like that. It's a lot of money.

Not saying it is anywhere near impossible, just not easy.

So if we go back one step higher to +3, I do not really see anything
that you can get wich gives a powerful stat boost with "nothing more
than coin". Yew items included. Changing your mahagony to a yew won't
give your character any amazing new combat stats.

Lets see, +3 armors. Adamant clothing is the one with the lowest lvl
req I know of. Monks will love it. So add this to the list of powerful
items in waiting. Not sure, but I think the next armor is monk/mage robes
wich have lvl req 18. Hardly anything that would give said powerboost.

Then there is the +3 Leather armors. I'd say the lowest lvl req is past
20 for leather and well over 20 for studded. They're not getting onto
the list either. Mithril. Probably lvl req over 25.  Been mentioned several
times before already. Emerald +3 jewelry. Easier than Mithril, but not enough
to warrant it as "such powerful" for "nothing more than coin". Mithril weapons...
enough said.

So basically, on the "such powerful"-list I've come up with one item (adamant
clothes)  and on the "do not flood"-list I have the adamant clothing + jew
equipment. This all under the assumption bowparts III, damage rods IV and the
like do not go under +3 category. Though if they did, I doubt it would make
much difference, since most of those things are rather tedious to craft.

I guess what I am talking about is this, fom Leathar :

Hello everybody, I would like to request that you try not to sell more than one or two +3 or equivalent items per RL month.  You can make all you want for your own character but please try not to flood the market with these items.  This is not a rule, but it is a request and I hope you respect the request.

Thank you.

And my personal opinion that higher end +stat and +skill items should remain hard to get. I think what the general idea of the request is (again, just my interpretation) That we have quite a few high level characters on the servers now, Epics and near-epics who are capable of harvesting some of the highest end CNR, and are high enough level in thier respective classes to have a reasonable chance of success at making high end items. I think the request was directed more at THESE people, and would not have been made unless someone had noted something that prompted them to look further into craft logs, player inventories, etc.

I don't know exactly what prompted Leanthar to request that people police the economy in this regard, but I can say that in my own personal opinion in a low magic world thats intended to revolve around a group of people, +2 items are pretty darned special, and +3 items should be the things that the future legends and artifacts of Layonara arise from. But, thats just me.

I have absolutely nothing to do with who is crafting or selling what, just stating my opinion.

I think the heart of the request is the gathering with the intent of mass production and distribution amongst the player base.

There you go!  That sums it up. :)
